SENIORS! Are you considering attending LoneStar College – Montgomery next year?
We have an Admissions Representative who will be working with the ORHS Seniors twice a month to help
with the application and testing process! Ms. Greenleaf will be in the College & Career Center on Monday,
January 26 from 8:30 – 12:00. Sign up to meet with her on Naviance Family Connection (“colleges” tab,
“view upcoming college visits”) or come by the CCC for a pass.

Are you intriqued? The LoneStar College Honors Program has a Chancellor’s Fellows Award that will do
all of this for you and more. It includes early registration for classes, small interactive classes, dedicated
Honors faculty and specialized advising, professional internship opportunities, and articulation
agreements with major transfer universities! You can visit with representatives from the Honors
College and the Fellows Award on Wednesday, February 28 in the cafeteria during all lunches.

You are invited to attend the free online Cappex Financial Aid and FAFSA 101 Session. To register for the

MARK YOUR CALENDER! WE WILL HAVE 2 FAFSA WORKSHOPS AT OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL
1. February 17 – 3:00 until 7:00 PM
2. March 24 – 3:00 until 7:00 PM
These are workshops to help parents complete the FAFSA. Our wish is that you walk out of the
workshop with your student’s FAFSA complete. The Workshops will be in the College & Career
Center – Room B202. There will be Financial Aid Advisors from some of our local colleges and
universities here to help you. Please bring copies of your 2014 W-2s and your 2014 Income
Tax Forms (if you have filed them).
There will be other workshops throughout CISD so if you can’t come to our workshops, check
the CISD website for dates and locations of the other workshops available.

Are you taking the ACT, PSAT, SAT or TSI this Spring? Do you need a quick overview
before the big day? If so, please join us for Conroe ISD’s upcoming Test Prep Boot
Camp
Location: The Woodlands High School
Date: Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Time: Sessions will run from 8:30am - 12:30pm. Check-in starts at 8:00am.
Cost: $30 – Pay on the CISD Web store or the College Readiness Office (CISD Administration Building)

Snacks will be provided and Door Prizes will be drawn.
Introductory sessions are offered to students in math, reading, writing and science for the ACT, SAT and
TSI. TSI (Texas Success Initiative) test prep is recommended for students who are planning to take dual
credit courses, participate in the Accelerated College Program or a graduating senior who is planning to
attend a Texas college or university. If you have any questions about the TSI or dual credit courses,
please see your high school counselor.
Boot Camp offers an overview of what students can expect on test day. (These sessions do not cover all
the material and practice students receive in the longer test preparation courses.) For full length

JUNIORS!
Ms. Harbin the College & Career Counselor will be meeting with all 11th graders during their English III
classes. Meetings with individual classes are scheduled starting January 6, 2015 and ending February 2,
2015. She will be helping students log in to their Naviance Family Connection Account and assigning
them the following tasks to be completed by June 4, 2015:
1) Register to take an ACT or SAT
2) Complete their Student Brag Sheet & Academic Resume
3) Complete an interest inventory
4) Write a personal Essay/ Write Topic Essays for college application
5) Start a College Search and apply to at least 5 scholarships
JUNIORS! There will be a Mini College Fair at Oak Ridge on Friday, February 13 in the Cafeteria during
all lunches! This is the time to start researching colleges that you may be interested in applying to next
year!
There will also be a National College Fair at the NRG Center Thursday, February 12 (formerly Reliant
Center). Come visit with over 200 colleges and universities. Register today at: www.gotomyncf.com.
There are two sessions – Session One from 9:30- 12:30 AM. Session Two- from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

FEATURED SCHOLARHIPS WITH UPCOMING DEADLINES!
KAITLYN VALLERY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Deadline 1/30 - $1,000
This is a local scholarship. Seniors only. Open to students who have made a major life change and/or
overcome personal hurdles during high school. 2.5 - 3.3 GPA. Applicant must plan to attend a vocational
school, 2 or 4 year college/university. Application can be downloaded and typed using the "application
form" link on Naviance or come to the College & Career Center. Turn in to the College & Career Center by
the deadline.
COURAGEOUS PERSUADERS VIDEO CONTEST – Deadline 2/12 - $2,000
Open to 9-12 grades. Create a 30 second commercial to warn middle school students about the dangers of
underage drinking. Win scholarship money and a chance to air your commercial on TV! For more

GEORGE AND MARY HAMMAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – Deadline 2/20 - $16,000
Seniors only. The recipient may select any major at any four-year college or university in the United
States. The Hamman Scholarship does not apply to Junior or Community Colleges. Award is $4,000/year
and is renewable. Selection based upon financial need and scholastic ability. Application should be
received by the Foundation with unofficial transcript, SAT or ACT scores, recent photo and signed copy of
parent's/guardian's most recent tax return no later than Feb. 20 at 4:00. For more information and to

HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO SCHOLARSHIPS (4 different scholarships available) – Deadline
2/23 - $16,000 – Seniors only. You do not have to be associated with the Houston Livestock Show &
Rodeo to apply. Apply online at www.rodeohouston.com/scholarships.
BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP – Deadline 2/27 - $100,000
Seniors only. Awards vary from $1,000 per year ($4,000/ 4 years) up to $25,000 per year ($100,000/4
years). Must plan on attending a 4 year college or university and major in Science, Technology,
Engineering, Math, Business, Finance, Marketing, or Design. The list of approved majors is found on the
website. Application is completed online at http://www.buickachievers.com/ Deadline is a "submit by"
deadline.
CONROE ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS – Deadline 2/28 - $8,000
Seniors only. For students who wish to pursue a degree in education. Award is $500 - $1,000 per
semester. Some scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years. Activities, resume, short statements, letter
of recommendation and unofficial transcript are required. Application can be accessed on Naviance Family
Connection. Return application to the College & Career Center by the deadline.
