GLADIOLA ELEMENTARY NEWS
November 2014
Principal Notes:
On November 7, 10, and 12, we are planning on our fall
Parent/Teacher conferences. Prior to P/T conference, parents
will receive their child’s report card. As you do, please take
some time to review and discuss each area with your child. The
report card and year to this point will be reviewed. Today’s
educational process is a collaborative one. Spending time to
review their accomplishments thus far will provide everyone
involved to take into account areas to celebrate and goal set as
the school year continues. At any point during the course of the
year, please do not hesitate to ask questions and share your
insight to best support your child as we continue our strong
home-to-school connection. Thank you for your partnership
and we look forward to seeing you soon!

ALL DAY EVERY DAY!
(Attendance Matters)
If children don’t show up for school regularly,
they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills!
According to www.attendanceworks.org , students who
are chronically absent for one or two years are far less
likely to read at their grade level.
Good attendance = 9 or fewer absences during the school
year
At-risk attendance = 10-17 absences during the school
year
Chronically absent = 18+ absences during the school year
An absence is calculated for the a.m. and p.m. of each
school day.
Learning happens all day at Gladiola Elementary School and
arriving late and/or leaving early interrupts students’ learning as
well.
A tardy will be counted if a student arrives within the first hour
after school begins or leaves within one hour of school ending.
Four tardies = 1 absence
Following school policy, if your student arrives late or leaves
early, a parent/guardian must sign them out in the school
office.
If your student has been absent and/or tardy, and there is
anything we can do to help, please contact the school office. It
is important for us to help in any way that we can to make sure
our students are learning everyday!
We know that being in school is best for students’ learning and
achievement!
So far this school year, our attendance has been at
95.5% or better!
Way to go Wolves!
