T
he period leading up
to New Year's Day is
a time for setting
things straight: a thorough
housecleaning, paying off
debts, returning borrowed
objects, reflecting on one's
shortcomings, or mending
quarrels. Some people even
jump into the sea or a
local body of water and
literally wash the slate clean.
By bringing the past year to its ending
with respect and beginning the new one in
the way we would like it to begin, we
establish our intentions for the new year.
We make resolutions to engage in wellness
and to do the things that feed our souls
and lift our spirits. We continue moving
forward with the intent to be even better
versions of ourselves.
However, starting off a new year with a clean
slate doesn’t mean that everything that has
occurred in the past is meaningless. By getting
our affairs in order for the new year, we are
setting ourselves up with a fresh start using
the lessons we have learned from the past to
guide us in making healthy choices for the
future.
Why do I think of new beginnings with such
passion? It’s not because I don’t appreciate
what has come before. On the contrary—when
faced with a new beginning I make a special
place for it in the tapestry of my life. My
passion for new beginnings comes rather from
the energy of renewal and hope that a new
beginning sparks within!
Whether we gather together to watch the
ball drop in Times Square or set off firecrackers at midnight or clink champagne
glasses with our loved ones, we are
acknowledging an important transition
and welcoming a fresh start. May your
New Year be rich with all of the blessings
you desire.
