Artful Engagement
Enrichment activities and self care are
important components of a well-lived life. As
we age, it can become tougher to find
self-growth opportunities.
We’re in our second month of this new
program to help us reflect, explore and express ourselves creatively, and build tools we
can use in our everyday lives. January’s
“Happiness” discussion with the Director of
the Center for Creative Aging was quite meaningful, lively and very well-attended. We are
building on that with two creative workshops.
February’s offering is a class to help you become clear so you can fulfill your goals and
dreams by creating a Vision Board. In March
we partner with Silver Kite to offer a 90minute Memoir Writing workshop. Please sign
up early as we expect this to fill up.
We welcome you to engage with us as a way to
celebrate yourself!

Letter from the Director
Peggy McNamara
Greetings,
We are heading into February and things continue to move forward at Sno-Valley Senior Center; as of the
6th of this month, I will have been in my role for six months and can’t thank you enough for your involvement with our beloved Center, in whatever way that is.
As always, there are some important updates to share:
If you attended the January 22nd Annual Meeting for our members, thank you for doing so. There will
be a recap of the member gathering in next month’s newsletter.
2015 is our 40th Anniversary as an organization! There are a team of folks who have gathered and are
making plans so that we can celebrate and acknowledge this milestone in a variety of ways
throughout the year; watch for more details.
Speaking of celebrations, thank you for attending the reception for Ray and Tove Burhen that followed
our annual meeting. I have only known Ray and Tove for a short time, and my goodness, their dedication to Sno-Valley Senior Center over the years is impressive. Even though Ray has retired from
the board of directors, I will still be calling him to get his advice and wisdom on particular things
that come along. Ray and Tove bring a smile to my heart whenever I see them and trust that others
have similar reactions as well. They are, no doubt, good people.
The 2015 Board of Directors is having its annual retreat on Saturday, February 7th. This is the time that
we not only orient our new board members to Sno-Valley Sr. Center, but we also get to set some
milestones for the year ahead. I encourage you to get to know the board members, as life allows,
and feel free to offer input to me and the board on things that are relevant. I welcome questions
and open dialogue and appreciate the heartbeat of our center, which is you!
Rainbow Bingo is coming our way Friday, February 13th. Other centers hold up to nine “rainbow bingo” games per year at their center and often experience tickets selling out months in advance. It is
something fun and different not only for our center but also the Valley.
Susan Miller has been working hard on planning the Wine & Chocolate Event for Saturday, February
28th. This will also be a fun event for the center, but in an entirely different way. If you like wine,
chocolate, cheese and/or good bread (and who doesn’t like any or all of those J), this is the place to
be that afternoon.
The upstairs remodel should be winding down sometime this month. As a reminder, it includes two
additional program rooms with one that has a utility sink and is being set up for our foot care program. The entire office area is getting some new carpet and some additional cabinetry to help with
our continuing emphasis on organization.
One final item to note - we are working across the entire footprint of Sno-Valley Senior Center (which
includes Re-Incarnation Thrift Store, Community Dining, Enhance Fitness, ADH and all volunteers) to create systems and structure so that all aspects of our operations are not only working in
tandem but also feeling supported and succeeding. Exciting stuff!
Hold your Event at our Center

Rampathon Applications Available Now
Applications are due by February 27.
Rampathon, a program of the Master Builders Care
Foundation, builds free wheelchair ramps for disabled
low-income homeowners in King and Snohomish
counties. Since 1993, Master Builders Association
members have built more than 200 free wheelchair
ramps for community neighbors in need. For more information, contact the Master Builders Care Foundation at (425) 451-7920 or [email protected].
Holiday Bazaar Letter of Thanks
Last month we printed a very heartfelt
thank you letter from our Holiday Bazaar
Chairperson, Pat Busser. Unfortunately,
in formatting the newsletter, the end of
the letter was hidden and not readable.
We are sorry for the omission. Here is the
additional text:
“Thanks to our great cashiers, Chris &
Sandy Vattaks, Diana Board, Sandi Olsen
and Bonnie Amos, who were all very efficient and kept our tallies correct. And
again the family of Rae Stewart came in
like a breath of fresh air at the closing of
our bazaar, ready to take down tables and
chairs, putting them on the racks and
cleaning up after us. We are truly blessed
to have this wonderful family come in so
our Center is ready for Monday morning.
If I have missed anyone please forgive me.
THANK YOU ALL!”
On stormy days, listen to local news reports for
school closures. The Senior Center will follow
the recommendations for Riverview School
District. If they have a one-hour delay, so will the
Senior Center. A 1-hour delay means no 8 a.m. fitness class but does not effect ADH schedule. A 2hour delay cancels both morning fitness classes
and delays ADH 30 minutes. If you ride the shuttle, please call dispatch if you are cancelling.
A full-day closure means all activities,
ADH and lunch, will be cancelled. You
may call the center for updates at 425333-4152 or check the webpage at
snovalleysenior.org
or check our Facebook page. Keep in
mind, if power is down in some
areas, we may not be able to update
immediately. Stay warm!
We are hosting regular Welcome & Orientation Sessions beginning this month.

If you are caring for cats or dogs in your household

Center has arranged for Pet Food Deliveries the
second Monday or Tuesday of the month. Del &
Nancy Moore graciously volunteer their time to
pick up and deliver the bags of food that the
Humane Society provides and bags up for us. This
is a great service we’d like to keep up. Please assist
us by filling out a form with your needs and your
financial statement, which may be verified by the
Humane Society. Also, please sign out at the front
desk when you come to pick up your items. This
helps us regulate the flow, and update your
information. Please pick up your bags no later than
