EXECUTIVE SPEAKER SERIES
FEATURING AUTHOR AND MOUNTAINEER, HARRY FARTHING
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH 11:30AM—1:00PM
Harry Farthing was born in 1964 in the United Kingdom. Beginning in 1987, he enjoyed
a successful career with one of the world’s largest commercial real estate consultancies.
During this period, he lived and worked in the cities of London, Lisbon, Portugal and
Milan, becoming Managing Director of the company’s Italian operations and European
Board Director with responsibility for activities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain and
Qatar.
In 2010, he took early retirement to move with his American wife to Charleston, South
Carolina to raise their two daughters and pursue a career in writing.
Harry Farthing has had a lifelong interest in exploration, archeology and world
history, both published and alternate. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical
Society and has traveled widely to extreme environments such as the Sahara Desert, the
Himalayas, the Amazon and the Arctic North.
As an experienced mountaineer, he has climbed extensively including Mount Blanc and the Matterhorn in the Alps,
Mount McKinley in Alaska, Shishapangma, the highest mountain in Tibet, and Mount Everest itself. In 2010, he successfully led all thirteen members of a charity climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro in Africa.
In 2011, he made a solo 7500 mile journey across North America by BMW Motorcycle that linked the Atlantic, Arctic
and Pacific Oceans and traveled 2000 miles of unpaved roads above the 60th Parallel. That trip was the latest in a
series of extreme motorcycle journeys that started with a ride from the UK to the Moroccan Sahara when he was just
nineteen.
He is an accomplished public speaker and has raised millions for charity through his climbing. His debut novel,
SUMMIT, marries his knowledge of world travel, adventure sports, mountaineering and modern history to create an
exciting action story that is both compelling and thought-provoking.
Sequels, KILI, about Africa and the continent’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, and DENALI, about Mt McKinley and
the Arctic North of America, are already in the pipeline. Come join City Club members for another unforgettable

A LETTER FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER...
On February 26th we will honor the one year anniversary and celebrate the life of
our beloved Executive Chef Darryl Evans, who passed away after a long battle
against cancer.
Darryl leaves with us an amazing legacy in the culinary world, a life of kindness,
compassion, service to others first, a deep dedication to
his faith, a wonderful family, and a network of friends and
colleagues that look to honor him in their own special
way.
Although Darryl’s many awards and accomplishments
over the years are indeed impressive, his greatest achievements are in his thoughtfulness, his compassionate way he conducted himself every day, and most significantly, the lasting impact that he left in his ability to make everyone who knew him
feel so special. All because he really did care about everyone he came into contact
with.
City Club of Buckhead has renamed the Employee of the Year Award in honor of Chef Darryl Evans and
will dedicate the award every February 26th to Darryl’s memory.
