Jennifer Graham, DVM, Dipl. ABVP (Avian / Exotic Companion Mammal), Dipl. ACZM
Assistant Professor of Zoological Companion Animal Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences,
Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine
Keynote Speaker -Dr. Graham graduated with her DVM from Auburn University in 1999. She completed an avian/exotic internship at
the University of Georgia followed by a 3-year residency in avian/exotic animal medicine at the University of California at Davis. Following
her residency she started an exotics practice in a specialty referral hospital located in Seattle, WA, from 2003-2006. Dr. Graham worked
at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA from 2006-2012. She is presently an Assistant Professor of Zoological Companion Animal
Medicine at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and holds an adjunct faculty position with the University of Washington. Dr.
Graham became board certified through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Avian medicine in 2002 and has recently
recertified in this practice category. She became a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine in 2008. She was also on the
organizing committee for the ABVP-Exotic Companion Mammal practice category and became certified in this practice category in 2009.
Dr. Graham is a member of multiple professional organizations including the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV), American Association
of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV), Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), and the Association of Exotic Mammal
Veterinarians (AEMV). Dr. Graham’s professional interests include NSAIDs/inflammation, oncology in exotic animal species, stem cell
research, and avian red blood cell preservation techniques. She served as the ABVP Residency Chair from 2009-2013 and holds positions on
several veterinary committees. In her spare time, Dr. Graham enjoys cinematography, hiking, camping, kayaking, and fly fishing (although she
never catches anything!).
Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA
Director of Veterinary Science and Outreach, Oxbow Animal Health, Murdock, NE
Dr. Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA, earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2001 and a Masters Degree in
Public Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2010. Dr. Kohles joined Oxbow Animal Health as Director of Technical
Services in 2006. Additional professional responsibilities include his practice at the Nebraska Animal Medical Center and an adjunct professor
appointment at the University of Nebraska College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Kohles lectures regularly throughout the United States and internationally at veterinary schools and veterinary conferences. He is
an active member of many professional organizations, including: AVMA, AAV, NVMA, AAZV, ARAV and the Association of Exotic Mammal
Veterinarians, where he serves as Treasurer and Education Chair. In the past, he has served on the boards of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical
Association and the Lincoln Children’s Zoo.
Dr. Kohles was a member of the AVMA’s inaugural Future Leaders Program and was recently named as one of 25 up-and-coming veterinarians
by Veterinary Practice News. In addition, he serves on the Nebraska Board of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery and has performed
conservation work in Africa, Central America and Mongolia.
Outside the office, Dr. Kohles enjoys the company of his wife, Ashley, and two boys, Tegan and Kai. He enjoys anything outdoors, especially
running, mountain biking, adventure racing, camping and canoeing when time allows.
Susan Kelleher, DVM
Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital, Deerfield Beach, FL
Dr. Susan Kelleher is originally from Buffalo, NY. She received her bachelor’s degree from Alfred University with a dual major in Chemistry
and Biology in 1990. She attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1995. She worked in small
animal practices in South Florida from 1995-1999. In 1999 she chose to devote her career exclusively to avian and exotic patients and opened
Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital. She has lectured nationally and internationally on exotic animal medicine, regularly hosts veterinary
student externs from the US and abroad and has had a strong veterinary internship program since 2000.
In 2013 Dr. Kelleher was recruited by National Geographic Wild for a television show, “Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER”. The show aired six episodes
in the fall of 2014 and has been selected to go on to have a “season 2”. The goal of the show is to educate people about the level of care that
is available and necessary for avian and exotic pets.
Dr. Kelleher is happily married to Greg Martin and they have three children – Elba, Claire and Myles. They also share their home with a Blue
and Gold Macaw, two parakeets, a canary, a caique, two box turtles, two cats, two Labrador retrievers and an African Spur Thighed Tortoise.
There are no plans for building an ark in the near future.
