Latest Bulletin - Altrincham Baptist Church

Welcome to ABC
Sundays at ABC are the time when we gather together as a whole church, in the
presence of God. We pray, sing and read scripture in order that we might follow
Jesus. As we do these things we open ourselves to the power and influence of God's
Spirit, as he forgives, restores, heals and guides us. In this way, we find purpose and
meaning, hope and grace for all that life holds. If you have any questions about the
church, or require any assistance today, please make yourself known to a steward
and we will be very happy to help.
1st February 2015
“If there is no laughter, Jesus has gone somewhere else. If there is no joy and
freedom, it is not a church: it is simply a crowd of melancholy people basking in a
religious neurosis. If there is no celebration, there is no real worship.”
― Steve Brown (Not the ABC one, but it could be!)
We are serious-minded people who sense the urgency of the call to mission and take
seriously the call to take up our cross daily.
So in that context, we don't often name the truth that laughter, joy and celebration
are all fundamental to the life God wants for us. We live complicated and pressured
lives; lives which replace lightness with heaviness and put an ill-fitting yoke on our
shoulders.
So, read the quotation again. And may we hope that the day will never come when
we fail to enjoy each other and our life together.

15th February - Spread the Love this Valentine's! Join us for our
Alternative Valentine's Banquet, 1212-2pm.
Valentine's Day in our culture is primarily centred around couples and an idealised
vision of romantic love. Yet the Bible asks us ALL to love one another in an inclusive
way, and this community meal is one way of reaching out - to those both in our
own church community and beyond - who may otherwise feel excluded by this particular
time of year. It's a way of demonstrating God's love by extending friendship and love.
“My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has
seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us.... “ I John 4: 11-12 (The
Message)
Each year this event becomes more and more popular!
We need donations of hot dishes for the buffet. We'd like offers of the following hot dishes:
Chicken curry - Lasagne - Veggie pasta - Chilli
Or if you'd prefer, we'd also love donations of desserts.
We also need help to set up, welcome and chat, serve, and clear up. We have family
craft activities and a quiz, but most of all we just want people to feel at home and cared for.
So please put the date in your diaries. Come along. Invite friends. Let us know if you're coming and let the Hub office know if you can help with any of the practicalities. Thank you so
much.

UgandAid February 2015
In the next few days 40 new students will be arriving at Nile Vocational Institute on the
UgandAid programme to start three year courses such as plumbing, electrical installation,
catering and motor vehicle mechanics. All of these will be from the poorest of the poor, and
are severely disadvantaged. By studying at NVI they have the chance of a lifetime. Ideally
EVERY ONE of these will be sponsored by someone in the UK in due course. We will meet
each of them when we visit in February and bring back photos and news to their sponsors.
If you think by you, your office, school, small group, family or another group could sponsor
one of these young people please speak to Christine Booth or Mike Wright. More
information on www.ugandaid .com.
If you are a sponsor and would like to send a letter to your student please give them to
Christine or a team member by 8th February (nothing bigger due to space restrictions
please)
A team of 27 people leave for Uganda on 9th February. You can follow our blog on

Our Cafe Needs You !!
We would desperately(!) love to welcome new volunteers to the Hub Cafe Team. We have a
number of key regular team members unavailable due to short term mission, gaining
employment and health issues.
Working in the cafe is often busy, sometimes manic but always rewarding and certainly
fosters a great sense of community and team
If you can support this core ministry please contact Bethan
Or you could help behind the scenes Tea Towels - a volunteer is also needed to help with the washing of the café tea towels.
As you can imagine in a busy café a lot of towels are used and this is a vital, useful and quiet
way to help out. Please contact Isabelle
