Dear Madam, dear Sir,
Europe is facing a transition
period. Economic growth is slow;
high unemployment - particularly
youth unemployment - is a great
problem in parts of Europe, even
affecting society as a whole. The
debt crisis is not over yet, either.
This means that, more than ever,
we need to focus on setting the
right priorities for a better and stronger Europe.
There are many aspects to the urgent problems we are now
facing in Europe. One immediate issue is to provide a fresh
stimulus and new measures to encourage growth and
investment, to boost Europe’s international competitiveness, and to create jobs. If we are to be successful in the
long term, however, we will also need to tackle the weaknesses of the Economic and Monetary Union. We will need
to provide more incentives for structural reform. If we are
to safeguard the prosperity of our citizens, we will have to
boost our potential for growth in Europe.
Europe will earn the trust of its citizens if it tackles these
challenges. We would like to present and discuss ideas for
the future development of the European Union and
specific ways to implement them with you at the conference entitled “Investment, Growth, Jobs - Our path towards
a strong Europe” on 24 February 2015. I look forward to
seeing you there.
