After an exceptional Appathon weekend the six

Appathon winners nominated
30 January 2015: After an exceptional Appathon weekend the six teams for ESA App Camp
Barcelona, sponsored by SAP have been nominated.
More than 170 participants from about 30 nations gathered simultaneously at six ESA BIC and
partner locations across Europe on 24-25 Jan 2015. In teams, they were challenged to develop
mobile app concepts using Earth observation data and the power of the SAP Hana Cloud Platform to
tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges. Topics areas included Big Geo Data, Crowdsourcing
Solutions, Environmental Protection, Food Security, and the Internet of Things.
After two days of intense work, all teams presented their app concepts in fife-minute pitches to an
expert jury on Sunday. The jury had the hard task to select a winning team in each country from
among great concepts and business cases. Each of the team members, consisting of three to five
developers, was handed over a ticket to the ESA App Camp Barcelona.
The winning teams will now receive coaching to further develop their concepts, to be optimally
prepared for Barcelona. From 25 Feb to 3 March, the six teams will be invited to the ESA App Camp,
sponsored by SAP to work on their apps and compete for the grand prize, which will be presented at
the Mobile World Congress 2015. The overall winners will get the chance to present their apps on
the SAP stage at the MWC and be awarded prizes including 5,000 Euro cash by top-level
representatives from ESA and SAP.
