tudents will start “from the beginning” in
French 9 as it is considered an entry level course
By the end of French 9, you can expect to speak and
write comfortably about yourself, your interests,
and your family as well as knowing the vocabulary
for food, days, months, seasons, and weather. Bienvenue à Riverside!
French 9
Beginners Japanese 11 introduces students to the Japanese language and culture through sharing many fascinating celebrations, festivals, food and anime cartoons. It
is a beautiful visual experience with many hands-on and
virtual projects such as New Year’s greeting cards, haiku
poems, Children’s Day activities etc.

Dreaming of Project Runway? Learn to draw fashion figures, design fashion items,
and sew one-of-a-kind creations. Develop basic sewing machine skills and work with
the elements and principles of design as they apply to fashion. Students will create
design solutions that solve fashion design problems, using textiles and sketchbook.
Each challenge will be selected according to the experience and desire of students
and may include a recycled design. This course is highly recommended for students
interested in fashion design.
Foods 10
Foods and Nutrition 10 is a fun and social way to learn the
basics of cooking, nutrition, and consumer education. Students
make a tremendous variety of foods from scrambled eggs, to
sushi, to homemade pierogis, Japanese yakisoba, and frozen
mocha cheesecake. We typically cook 2-3 times per week.
Students also practice many consumer education skills like
how to read, understand, and compare nutrition labels, how to
decipher food advertising messages, and how to plan budget
friendly meals. There is something for everyone in FN10.

topics that affect students’ lives? If yes, then Journalism is the course for you! This
course gives you an opportunity to write, to create web pages, to learn photojournalism, to make news casts and much more. Become a creative and involved
student in the culture of the school and sign up for Journalism!
ICT 10
ICT 10 is and exciting and challenging course
that explores the different areas of computer technology. IT 10 offers students an opportunity to
learn basic skills with programs such as Photoshop,
Blender, Scratch, and various Microsoft progams.

Leadership is an excellent opportunity to meet new
students, plan events, volunteer in the community
and really feel like you are making a difference.This
class is a multi-grade class where Grades 9-12 are developing Leadership skills with a hands on approach
to learning.
Drama 9
At River’s Edge Theatre, the Drama program includes classes
in Drama, Musical Theatre, and Dance, and opportunities for
technical theatre, directing, scriptwriting and design. Classes are focused on communication, collaboration and creative
thinking skills, in an atmosphere that is fun, energised, positive and supportive.

Learn to play guitar
Students will learn basic chord patterns in folk,
pop and rock styles, rudimentary music theory,
note-reading, tablature, rhythmic skills, basic
finger-picking patterns, various left-hand techniques, and some forms of melodic/harmonic
styles of guitar playing. Guitars will be provided
for classroom use.

Pacific Rim Hockey Academy and Riverside have developed
a program and curriculum that provides students the opportunity to balance educational requirements while developing

Train to be ELITE
he High Performance Athlete Academy trains
and educates athletes how to reach their full
potential both mentally and physically. A dynamic
and systematic approach to training is used to help
each athlete reach their goals.
In Art 10, you will explore a variety of Art forms
and discover what aspects of art you most enjoy
as this course covers a little bit of printmaking,
drawing, painting and sculpture. Almost like
going to the buffet table at a wedding!
Learn how to think and then build in 3-D using Mother Na-
ture’s ultimate building material – clay! Various building
techniques such as pinch, coil, slab and wheel throwing will
be taught. Students will also learn to finish their work using
under glaze, and cold finishing techniques.
Express Yourself; Develop your Skills; Discover new ways of Seeing and Creating Art; Surprise Yourself!
This course is designed with the beginner in mind. You will have handson instruction and learn how to “see” and “think” like a professional
photographer. Students will learn pre- and post- production photo work
and graphics in our Mac computer lab. On screen or in your hand your
photos will look impressive!
Yearbook 10
In Yearbook 10 you learn both the creative and technical sides
of photo journalism and desktop publishing. Students will learn
digital photography, computer graphic layout and design, (including PhotoShop) interviewing and journalistic writing skills. If
you love people, computers, or photography this is a class for you!
