From Father Lawrence,
The Walk for Life, Hope and Post-Abortion
Healing Opportunities.
In recent years I have been a
participant with about 50,000
others in the Walk for Life. The
Walk for Life is a protest against the
January 22, 1973 Supreme Court
decision that allowed abortion of
the unborn in America. This year I
did something different. I decided
to get closer to the counterprotesters at the Walk for Life. I
wanted to hear their message and I
wanted to experience their energy.
I did this out of a desire to
understand them better. They are
human; they have souls. What
motivates them to protest in
defense of abortion rights?
to the more sedate and prayerful
protest of the Walk for Life crowd.
What seemed to primarily motivate
the counter-protesters is a concern
for women who are in a difficult
pregnancy. They are concerned
that, without legal abortion,
women may die through an unsafe
abortion.
But there are alternatives to
abortion. At last year’s Walk for Life
I met a young woman who told me
about her experience with “open
adoption.” She got pregnant by a
boy who she knew she couldn’t
marry. She seriously considered an
abortion, but she really didn’t want

We need to make alternatives like
was the stridency and urgency of
their protest. It was such a contrast “Open Adoption” as commonplace
as Planned Parenthood, don’t you
think? I hope we can get there in
my lifetime.
This year we had our first special
Mass as a prelude to the Walk for
Life in San Francisco. I was so
pleased to see about 175 people
there! About 50 were young people
from our Confirmation program.
What a sign of hope!
God is a God of hope; a God of
mercy. He is a healing God. He
extends mercy to anyone who is
sorry for their offenses and wants
to do better. His mercy is extended
to women who have made the
difficult choice to have an abortion.
God’s help and healing for these
women is being offered in our area.
I have attended these services and
prayed with these women and seen
the healing that can happen. If you
or someone you know might be
interested in healing from the
decision of abortion, know that God
is ready to bring you grace and
healing. Please see the notices in
today’s bulletin for more
information.
My prayers are with you.
Sincerely In Christ,
Fr. Lawrence D’Anjou

Julie Lassalle is retiring as the administrative assistant in the
Faith Formation office to become a full time grandmother.
She has been with our department two times throughout her
twenty years at St. Raymond. She worked two years with me
and then moved over to the school as a classroom aid while
her children were in school for eleven years. She then moved
back over to Faith Formation and has been working for the
past seven years as my assistant.
Julie is the most positive person I know. Many of you have
encountered her enthusiasm for life, her compassion for
others, and her willingness to help wherever needed. She will
be greatly missed but we wish her all the best in the fun times
ahead being the perfect loving grandma.
