Respecto al volumen de producción de libros en lengua vasca, cabe señalar que, según los últimos datos disponibles (2006), alcanza la cifra de 1.710 títulos anuales. De ellos, 482 títulos corresponden al sector de la literatura infantil y juvenil, y 251 al de la literatura para adultos. Cifras significativas, sin duda, para un idioma que cuenta, en la actualidad, con alrededor de 800.000 hablantes. 6 Sin embargo, más destacable es aún la calidad de la aportación que las letras vascas vienen realizando a la literatura universal, como prueba la excelente acogida que han registrado varios de nuestros autores traducidos a otras lenguas: Bernardo Atxaga, Mariasun Landa, Anjel Lertxundi, Ramón Saizarbitoria, Joseba Sarrionandia… La literatura vasca ha recorrido, por tanto, un exitoso camino en los mercados internacionales, y contribuir a esa expansión es, precisamente, el propósito de la ASOCIACIÓN DE EDITORES EN LENGUA VASCA al editar, en colaboración con la Consejería de Cultura del Gobierno Vasco, la presente Guía de Derechos. Esta guía, destinada a agentes literarios y editores, ofrece las siguientes informaciones: • Fichas y reseñas de obras literarias en lengua vasca con derechos disponibles para su traducción a otras lenguas. Los libros se presentan según el índice alfabético de autores. • Datos de las editoriales pertenecientes a la ASOCIACIÓN DE EDITORES EN LENGUA VASCA, dispuestas a atender ofertas de edición en lengua vasca de obras procedentes de otros idiomas. As for the volume of book production, it is worth emphasising, that it reaches 1,710 books annually, according to the last reports. Among them, 482 books belong to children and teenagers literature, and 251 to literature for adults. These are obviously important figures for a language that currently has around 800,000 speakers. However, the quality that Basque literature has added to the universal literature is even more important, and a proof of that is the good reception several of our authors, whose works have been translated into other languages, have received: Bernardo Atxaga, Mariasun Landa, Anjel Lertxundi, Ramón Saizarbitoria, Joseba Sarrionandia… Therefore the Basque literature has done a successful work in international markets. And the reason why the Basque Language Publishers’ Association has published the present Guide of Rights, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Basque Government, is actually to contribute to such expansion. (E-20013) Donostia Tel. +34 943292349 Fax +34 943277288 [email protected] www.editoreak.com L a Consejería de Cultura del Gobierno Vasco establece anualmente el régimen de subvenciones para la traducción a otras lenguas de obras literarias originalmente publicadas en lengua vasca, así como el régimen de subvenciones para la traducción a otras lenguas (excepto a la lengua vasca) de obras originales en castellano escritas por autores nacidos o domiciliados en la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca. En el convencimiento de que resultará de interés para aquellos editores que deseen publicar obras de autores vascos en otros idiomas, detallamos a continuación los criterios básicos que rigen estas subvenciones: 8 • Importe de la subvención: la ayuda podrá cubrir hasta el 100% de los costes de traducción de la obra. •S olicitantes: podrán solicitar las presentes subvenciones los editores (es decir, personas jurídicas) que publiquen las obras traducidas. (E-20013) Donostia Tel. +34 943292349 Fax +34 943277288 [email protected] www.editoreak.com E very year, the Basque Government’s Department of Culture establishes a subvention scheme for the translation of literary works originally published in Basque to other languages, and another subvention scheme for the translation of original works in Spanish to other languages (excluding Basque) which have been written by authors born or residing in the Basque Region. Below is a list of the basic criteria governing these subventions for those publishers who are interested and wish to publish works by Basque authors in other languages: • Applicants: publishing companies (corporations) that publish the translated work may request these subsidies. He is one of the creators of the Children’s Literature Seminar of Eskoriatza Teacher Training School, within Mondragón Unibertsitatea. He currently lectures in the University of the Basque Country’s Basque Philology Department. He’s translated numerous works of both children’s and adult literature into Euskara. He came into children’s literature through an interest in poetry. He’s won several awards, and has toured the Basque Country visiting primary schools and promoting children’s literature.
