JUNE 12, 2016
SOCIAL CONCERNS
The Poor Box for the month of June is for Bethesda Cares, a
non-profit which serves the county’s homeless and working
poor.
Gabriel Network (formerly Gabriel Project) is an interfaith
support network offering practical, emotional, spiritual
assistance to those in crises pregnancy and have decided
against abortion. There is always a need for diaper and wipes.
A bin will be left at the back of the church through the end of
May. At present, a medically high risk expectant mom referred
by Gabriel Network with a due date of mid-June is in very
great need of infant clothing (boy), stroller, baby carrier, and
items related to nursing, feeding, diaper and wipes. If you or a
family member has outgrown need for these items and are
looking to donate, please contact Selma Deleon at 240 372
5915 or [email protected]. As always, thank you in
advance for your prayers, care and assistance
Are you cleaning out your closets? Our Lady of Lourdes on
East West Highway has a homeless program providing meals on
Sunday nights and a “clothes closet” where needy guests can
obtain donated clothing? Men's Clothing is always needed. You
can bring items to Our Lady of Lourdes school cafeteria from
4:30 to 5:30 PM on Sundays and ask for location of drop off.
Or you can call Livia Gatti at 301-469-6552 ,
[email protected]; or Selma Deleon at 240-372 5915,
[email protected] for clean clothes pick up. Since the
clothes closet is a bit hidden, we would be happy to assist.
This weekend, June 11-12, the Little Sisters of the Poor will be
coming to our parish to request our assistance with their
mission in caring for the Elderly Poor. The Sisters will be at
the doors of the Church after each Mass to accept voluntary
gifts of support. Thank you for your kindness in return.
Bethesda House - thank you to all the volunteers for another
successful first half of the year providing dinners for 20 men
in Bethesda House. A calendar for July to the end of the year
is posted in the church vestibule to be signed according to
your availability. As usual, three volunteers are requested for
the third Tuesday of each month. Important reminder: we are
serving dinner for 20 BIG men each time. Let’s keep this in
mind
when
we
cook!
Thanks!

Minutes of the Finance Council Meeting of May 26, 2016
Following the opening prayer, Father Mark noted that the
2016 Cardinal’s Appeal pledges exceeded our parish goal by
32%. Nearly 300 individuals pledged $241,000 with $172,000
having been paid in to date. On behalf of all those who
directly benefit from the appeal, we thank the contributors
for their generous support. Parts of the parish hall and the
office rectory experienced extensive flooding during the
recent heavy rainstorms. Insurance claims for $20,000 were
filed and reimbursement checks have been received. A water
abatement program is underway to avoid similar damage in the
future. St. Bart’s Weekend was a success. Two hundred
parishioners participated in the festivities. The organizers will
assess which weekend date in 2017 would best meet our
community needs. The committee discussed the parish
financial statements for April month-end and the line items
are in order. The parish accountant explained in detail the
preliminary
2016-2017
Parish
Budget
and
Worksheets. Several adjustments to the school and church
entries were made to accommodate the revised archdiocese
accounting system. A generous benefactor donated the very
tall Cross (and its cost of transportation and installation)
which was erected on parish property across from the
entrance to the Assisted Living Facility. The $15,000 first
installment from the Steve and Kate Summer Camp was
deposited in the parish checking account. Finally, the school
principal, in consultation with others, has hired Mr. Preston
Lindsay, part time Director of Admissions and Marketing,
whose primary responsibility will be to focus on increasing
enrollment. The next Finance Council meeting is scheduled for
Tuesday, July 26th at 7:00 am in the rectory.
36th ANNUAL ST. BARTHOLOMEW STEPHANIE GANNON

indication of capability for study success, and participation in
community and/or parish activities. Preference is given to
undergraduate students, although graduate students are
eligible to apply. Application forms are available at the parish

UNDECIMO DOMINGO ORDINARIO
pecadora. No tengamos miedo. Abramos las puertas a
Cristo.
Cristo perdona nuestros pecado cuando nos postramos a
sus pies en el sacramento de la Penitencia y nos dice:
Tus pecados están perdonados, vete en paz. La
misericordia de Cristo ha triunfado sobre nosotros.
