SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION AT QUEEN OF PEACE: NOT GRADUATION, BUT SENDING AS
WITNESSES OF CHRIST IN THE NEW EVANGELIZATION!
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
These are days of great joy for me and for our entire parish family of
Queen of Peace Parish! A total of 212 youth will receive the Sacrament
of Confirmation at two different liturgies this Sunday, May 8, at
5 pm, and this coming Tuesday, May 10, at 7 pm. The Catechism
of the Catholic Church states that “It is evident from its celebration
that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special
outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on
the day of Pentecost” (No. 1302). Confirmation is a new Pentecost
for our entire parish. In that crucial event for the history of the
Church, the fearful and disheartened disciples experienced a
profound conversion that transformed them into courageous and
fearless witnesses of Christ until the ends of the world.
Queen of Peace needs the new Pentecost of Confirmation so that our
marriages, families, ministries and groups may transform our lives
into living signs of Christ's love, forgiveness, reconciliation and
peace. Confirmation is not the end of our formation in the faith.
Confirmation can't be our graduation from our Religious Education programs. Confirmation is the beginning
of our new life of Apostles of Christ who are willing to risk everything to bring Christ's salvation to our
confused and disoriented world. That has been our goal and vision in the faith formation of the youth who are
confirmed these days in our parish. Two years ago, we started a new program of Religious Education based on the
premise that parents are the first educators of their children. The parents of these youth have been attending
faith formation classes, in a different room, but at the same time as their children. For two years, youth and
parents have gone through the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church in order to rediscover the beauty of
having encountered Christ alive in His Church and being called to manifest his New Life in our thoughts, words
and actions, especially in the life of the family.
As this youth are confirmed, that is, as they receive the mission given to the Apostles at Pentecost, they do not stop
their faith formation journey. They become missionary disciples of Christ, who came to give his life as a ransom for
many. A great way to continue the process of faith formation that they have started, together with their families, and
that never should end, is the Series of Catechesis which we are having on Mondays and Thursdays in our Great
Room from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. This is a great way to renew the grace of Confirmation for everyone 13 and older.
Please, pray for our confirmandi and their families at this life-changing moment of their journey of faith.

of a collection of rare holy relics that would
normally only be seen in collections found in
Rome or the Holy Land. These will be at Queen
of Peace on May 27th at 6:00 pm in the Great
Room. The presentation of the Relics will be
bilingual.
Because of this special occasion, the 6:30 pm
Spanish Mass on that Friday May 27 will be
cancelled.

¡EL SACRAMENTO DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN EN REINA DE LA PAZ: NO UNA GRADUACIÓN, SINO EL ENVIÓ
DE TESTIGOS DE CRISTO EN LA NUEVA EVANGELIZACIÓN!
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
¡Estos son días de gran alegría para mí y para toda nuestra familia parroquial
de Reina de la Paz! Un total de 212 jóvenes recibirán el Sacramento de
Confirmación en dos distintas liturgias este domingo 8 de mayo a las
5 pm y este martes 10 de mayo a las 7 pm. El Catecismo de la Iglesia
Católica dice que "De la celebración se deduce que el efecto del sacramento
es la efusión especial del Espíritu Santo, como fue concedida en otro
tiempo a los Apóstoles el día de Pentecostés". (Nó. 1302). La Cónfirmación
es un nuevo Pentecostes para toda nuestra parroquia. En ese evento crucial
para la historia de la Iglesia, los discípulos, temerosos y desanimados,
experimentan una profunda conversion que los transformo en testigos
valientes y audaces de Cristo hasta los extremos del mundo.
Reina de la Paz necesita el nuevo Pentecostes de Confirmacion para que
nuestros matrimonios, familias, ministerios y grupos puedan transformar
sus vidas en signos vivientes del amor, el perdon, la reconciliacion, y la paz
de Cristo. La Confirmación no es el fin de nuestra formación en la fe.
La Confirmación no puede ser nuestra graduación de nuestros
programas de Educación Religiosa. La Confirmación es el principio de
nuestra vida nueva de Apóstoles de Cristo quienes están dispuestos a arriesgar todo para llevar la salvación
de Cristo a nuestro mundo confundido y desorientado. Esta ha sidó nuestra meta y visión en la fórmación de la fe
de nuestros jovenes quienes son confirmados actualmente en nuestra parroquia. Hace dos anos, comenzamos un
programa de Educacion Religiosa nuevo basado en la premisa que los padres son los primeros educadores de sus
hijos. Los padres de estos jóvenes han estado acudiendo a clases de formación de fe, en un salón distinto, pero
al mismo tiempo que sus hijos. Por dos años, los jóvenes y padres han pasado por el Catecismo de la Iglesia
Católica completo para redescubrir la belleza de tener un encuentro con Cristo vivo en Su Iglesia y el ser llamadós
a manifestar su Vida Nueva en nuestros pensamientos, palabras y acciones, especialmente en la vida de la familia.
A medida que estos jovenes son confirmados, es decir, a medida que reciben la mision otorgada a los Apostoles en
Pentecostes, no detienen su jornada de formacion de fe. Se convierten en discípulos misioneros de Cristo, quien vino a
dar su vida como rescate de muchos. Una gran manera de continuar el proceso de formacion de fe, que ya han comenzado,
junto con sus familias, y que nunca debe terminar, es la serie de Catequesis, las cuales tenemos los lunes y jueves en
nuestro Great Room de 7:30 a 8:30 pm. Esta es una gran manera de renóvar la gracia de Cónfirmación para tódós de
13 anós y mayóres.

SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
PARISH PRIESTS TO BEGIN VISITING HOMEBOUND, SICK, ELDERLY AND THEIR FAMILIES
Beginning on Sunday, June 12th, on the 48th anniversary of the
establishment of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, our priests will
take time every Sunday to visit the homebound, sick, elderly and
their families. From 11 am to 3 pm on Sundays, our priests will
visit some parishioners' homes to offer the Sacraments of Anointing
of the Sick, Communion, Confession, and to spend personal time
with them and their family. These visits are besides and beyond
the regular emergency visits that our priests carry out daily
when someone in our community is gravely ill or dying. Our
priests would like to spend quality time with our parishioners
whenever they can't make it to Mass for any justified reason.

Comenzando el Domingo, 12 de junio, en el 48 Aniversarió del
Establecimiento de la Parroquia Reina de la Paz, Nuestros
Sacerdotes Tomaran Tiempo Cada Domingo Para Visitar a las
Personas Confinadas en Casa, Enfermas, Mayores, y sus
familias. Desde las 11 am hasta las 3 pm los domingos, nuestrós
sacerdotes visitaran las casas de algunos feligreses para ofrecer
los Sacramentos de la Uncion de los Enfermos, Comunion, Confesion, y
para pasar tiempo personal con ellos y sus familias. Estas visitas
van mas alla de las visitas de emergencia regulares que nuestros
sacerdotes llevan a cabo diariamente cuando alguna persona en
nuestra parroquia esta gravemente enferma o por morir. A nuestros
sacerdotes les gustaría pasar tiempo con nuestros feligreses cuandó nó pueden acudir a Misa ó pór cualquier razón justificada.

years and were happy to
participate in Mass at our parish.
Morning Star residents will
continue coming to the Eucharist
once each month, and we look forward to receiving them with open arms.

La Parroquia Catolica Reina de la Paz estuvo encantada en darles la bienvenida a once
visitantes del centro de vivienda para personas mayores Morning Star el fin de semana
pasado. Fue un placer el que nos acompanaran para celebrar la Santa Eucaristía durante
este tiempo de Pascua. Muchos no habían estado dentro de una iglesia Catolica en anos
y estuvieron felices de participar en Misa en nuestra parroquia. Residentes de Morning
Star continuaran viniendo para la Eucaristía una vez al mes, y esperamos recibirlos

ALL PARISHIONERS INVITED TO PRAY
FOR SOON-TO-BE PRIESTS
We are overjoyed at the upcoming priestly ordinations of Deacon
Matt and Deacon Freddy, our future parochial vicar. We invite
you to pray for these soon-to-be priests, as they prepare for
their ordination. This is also a time to pray for all priests, vocations
to the priesthood, and all vocations.
The ordinations will take place Saturday, May 14 at 10 am at
the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Archbishop
Aquila will preside. The ceremony will be livestreamed on http://archden.org/livestream.
Once ordained, Deacon Matt will concelebrate the 11:30 am Mass on May 29. Deacon Freddy’s first Mass as priest at
Queen of Peace will be announced in the near future.

As you know, we have two confessionals (rooms for celebrating the Sacrament of Penance) in our
Gathering Space. Due to the large amount of Confessions, we are opening a third confessional in our
Gathering Space in the very near future. Come and experience the power of God's Mercy!
Beginning Friday, May 20th, Queen of Peace Priests will be extending the Confession times similar to
the Lenten Confession Schedule. This is to serve our parishioners with more opportunities to
receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please review the added days and times. Our Queen of
Peace Family is truly blessed to have priests who serve so mercifully!

QUEEN OF PEACE PREPARES FOR THIRD ANNUAL
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi celebrates the true presence of Christ
in the Body and Blood we receive. During the procession, we will pray and
sing, glorifying our Lord. The Eucharist will be placed in a monstrance
and held aloft by Father Felix. In this way, we are bringing Jesus Christ to
those around us and professing our faith.
We’ll need multiple choirs and Ministers of Hospitality. Can you help?

The procession will be Sunday, May 29 at 12:15 pm – between the
11:30 am and 1:30 pm Masses. ALL are invited to come, regardless of

According to Acts 1:15-26, during
the days after the Ascension, Peter
stood up in the midst of the brothers
(about 120 of Jesus’ followers).
Now that Judas had betrayed his
ministry, it was necessary, Peter
said, to fulfill the scriptural
recommendation that another
should take his office. “Therefore,
it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us the whole time the Lord
Jesus came and went among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day
on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection” (Acts
1:21-22).
They nominated two men: Joseph Barsabbas and Matthias. They prayed and
drew lots. The choice fell upon Matthias, who was added to the Eleven.

San Cono nacio en Messina, Sicilia en
1139 en una familia rica. A la edad de 15
anos, abandono las comodidades de su
palacio y se puso la tunica de San Besilio y
finalmente, fue elegido abad de su orden.
Cuando sus padres murieron, regalo su
fortuna a los pobres que vivían en las
grutas horribles de Rocca d'Almo. Es el
santo patron del pueblo que porta su
nombre en Sicilia. La gente de ahí celebra

“BABY BOOTIQUE”
Bishop Evans Ladies Auxiliary #10122 is hosting a baby shower
to support St. Joseph Hospital’s “Baby Bootique,” on May 14-15,
Saturday 4-5:30pm Sunday 7:30 am – 3:00pm in the Great
Room.
BABY BOOTIQUE is a program that helps low-income parents
from the hospital’s two clinics offering obstetrical services. The goal is to encourage healthy behaviors and healthy babies.
Participants receive coupons that they can exchange for clothing, diapers, car seats and other necessities at The Baby Bootique
by attending prenatal appointments, parenting classes and postnatal appointments for mom and baby.
Pick up a flyer at the Welcome Desk for suggested items to donate.

BABY BOOTIQUE es un programa que ayuda a padres de bajos
recursos de las dos clínicas del hospital que ofrecen servicios de obstetricia. La meta es animar una conducta saludable y bebes
saludables. Los participantes reciben cupones que pueden intercambiar por ropa, panales, asientos de auto y otras necesidades
en el Baby Bootique al asistir a sus citas prenatales, a clases para padres y a citas postnatales para mamas y bebes.

Bishop Evans Knights of Columbus
Council 10122 is offering
scholarships
to
deserving
students in Grade School and
High School. These scholarships
are to give an opportunity to
students to receive a Catholic
Education.
Criteria is based on need and
Grades 6-12 will be required to
write an essay on “Why a Catholic
Education is important to me.”
These will be written in a
monitored environment on June
18. Applications are due no later than June 4.
Grade School students can receive $ 500 each. High School students can
receive $1000 each.
There will be a table setup for questions in the Great Room after all Masses
on May 14, and May 15.

REST IN PEACE RALPH FRIEND
We are saddened to report that Mr. Ralph
Friend has passed away at age 93. Mr. Friend
was the landlord of the property Friends of
St. Andrew has been leasing for close to 30
years to help the poor and feed the hungry.
Please join us in praying for the eternal rest
of Mr. Friend and for his family in this time
of grief.
We are asked at this time to consider the
many blessings we have received from
the Lord and with a heart full of gratitude,
consider giving back to God our tithe.
We have a big mission at Queen of Peace to partake in the
New Evangelization, and it’s important for our parish to
receive the financial resources necessary to help us in
the mission God has entrusted to us. Thank you for your
