Tim Staples explains the incredible impact that the Church’s

has on our spiritual lives,
and the profound way that
Marian doctrines and

Using penetrating insights

how correct knowledge of
our humble Mother

Christ, and empowers us
to say “Yes” to God!
Year of Mercy
Mary, Mother of Mercy
In the story of the Wedding at Cana we get our first glimpse of
Mary in her role as intercessor and advocate. Mary sees that
the wine has run out, and with her merciful heart, brings this
need to the attention of her Son. Jesus abundantly answers her
request by making over 100 gallons of wine! In the words of
St. John Paul II:
CD’s are available in the Gathering Space for $3.00 each.
Vigil of the Holy Spirit
“At Cana in Galilee there is shown only one concrete aspect of
human need, apparently a small one of little importance (“They
have no wine”). But it has symbolic value: this coming to the
aid of human needs means, at the same time, bringing those
needs within the radius of Christ’s messianic mission and
salvific power…Mary “intercedes” for mankind.”
(Redemtoris Mater, nn. 21-22)
As exemplified at Cana, Mary has
mercy on us in our times of need.
We ask our Mother of Mercy for her
intercession to take our needs to
Christ. For example, in the
Memorare we pray, “Remember, O
most gracious Virgin Mary, that
never was it known that anyone who
fled to thy protection, implored thy
help, or sought thine intercession was
left unaided… O Mother of the Word
Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer
me.” We are blessed to have
recourse to such a powerful Mother of Mercy!

Confirmation and renew the gifts of the

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,

Acts 1:8
Pope Quote
We want to live this Jubilee Year in light of the Lord’s words:
Merciful like the Father. The Evangelist reminds us of the
teaching of Jesus who says, “Be merciful just as your Father is
merciful” (Lk 6:36). It is a programme of life as demanding as it
is rich with joy and peace. Jesus’s command is directed to
anyone willing to listen to his voice (cf. Lk 6:27). In order to be
capable of mercy, therefore, we must first of all dispose
ourselves to listen to the Word of God. This means
rediscovering the value of silence in order to meditate on the
Word that comes to us. In this way, it will be possible to
contemplate God’s mercy and adopt it as our lifestyle.

(saying the Creed), praying for the Holy Father, Pope Francis,
and for the intentions that he bears in his heart for the good of
the Church and of the entire world, while doing any of the
following:
 Visiting a Pilgrimage Church while having the
intention to obtain the indulgence
 Going to confession (before or after the visit)
 Personally performing one or more of the Spiritual and
Corporal Works of Mercy.
 Praying for the dead at Mass that they be freed from sin
and be embraced by God in eternal life.
 The sick and people who are elderly and alone may
obtain the Indulgence by receiving Communion or
