CATECHESIS AT QUEEN OF PEACE: THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE GOOD
NEWS OF CHRIST UNITES US AND HEALS OUR DIVISIONS
IT’S NOT TOO LATE! COME AND HEAR THE WORD OF LIFE!
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I was deeply touched seeing the hundreds
of people who responded to the invitation
to hear God's Word at the Catechesis
currently going on in our parish every
Monday and Thursday night. However,
what touched me most was not so much the
number of people who attended. It was the
diversity of all kinds that filled my heart
with joy and thanksgiving to the Lord for
bringing us together—white Caucasian
parishioners, Hispanics, Asian, African, and
African American brothers and sisters,
young and old, married and single, etc—all
listening to the one Word of God in the one
Church, the Body of Christ. The announcement
of Christ's unconditional risen love for everyone
in every single different walk and way of live unites us and brings us together through the power of the same Holy Spirit.
In today’s Gospel we hear Jesus giving us, His disciples, a new commandment, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you
also should love one another” (Jn 13:34). This time of Evangelization in our parish brings us to the source and beginning of
every thought, word and action in our parish life, and in our marriages and families: Christ's crucified and risen love for us
sinners. The unconditional love of Christ needs to appear through the love, mercy, forgiveness, patience and tenderness we have
for our brothers and sisters. Our faith isn’t meant to be lived out alone. Christ longs to bring us together through his love and for
us to have Christian communion and unity with each other. If we are failing to love someone, or we put ourselves before others,
it's because we're not living and acting from Christ's love for us on the Cross.
In our postmodern society, this Christian communion often doesn’t exist. A recent study published by two psychology professors
from the University of Chicago, calls loneliness a new epidemic – a problem, with real, physical health risks. It says, “The
feeling of loneliness, at first, makes a person try to engage with others, but eventually loneliness can encourage
withdrawal, because it seems better than the alternative pain of rejection, betrayal or shame.” Many times, the cause of
our loneliness is fear. We are afraid to go to the other because he or she is different. We believe the lie that because we are
different – we are from a different country, a different race, a different age or economic status – we cannot have unity.
The Good News is that Jesus Christ breaks through our differences, fears and barriers, and gives us to love one another as Christ
loves us. Listening to his voice heals the wounds of division and brings us together as one single parish family that
cherishes our diversity. It was beautiful to see that taking shape at the Catechesis this past week. In the crowd, there were
young people, old, single, married, entire families, of different ethnicities, all sitting together to hear the proclamation of the
Gospel. English speakers sat side-by-side with Spanish speakers, hearing the same Word, at the same time. The Catechesis are in
English, with a translation being offered in real time, through individual radios, so that everyone can understand.
This is the power of the Gospel. The proclamation of the “Kerygma,” the Good News of salvation in Christ, has the power to
transform us and to bring us together. When we put Jesus Christ at the center of our lives and at the center of our parish, it
is possible to be one. It’s possible to be a community that walks together in the truth, that shares in each other’s sufferings,
and that sees Christ in the face of the other. We see it in this weekend’s first reading. After Paul and Barnabas announce the
Good News, they rejoice together with others. “And when they arrived, they called the church together and reported what God
had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles” (Acts 14:27).
I invite you to open your heart to the gift of Christ's powerful love. If you are feeling lonely, unloved or distant from anyone,
believe this promise that God's love can make all things new. (Rev 21:5a) The Catechesis continue this week. If you missed last
week’s it’s not too late. They start at 7:30 pm MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS in the Great Room. There is no sign-up or registration
necessary. You don’t need to bring anything. Just come and listen!

CATEQUESIS EN REINA DE LA PAZ: EL ANUNCIO DE LA BUENA NUEVA DE CRISTO
NOS UNE Y SANA NUESTRAS DIVISIONES
¡NO ES DEMASIADO TARDE! ¡VENGAN Y ESCUCHEN LA PALABRA DE VIDA!
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
Me conmovio mucho ver que cientos de personas
respondieron a la invitacion de escuchar la Palabra
de Dios en las Catequesis llevándose a cabo en
nuestra parroquia cada lunes y jueves en la
noche. Sin embargo, lo que me toco no fue tanto
el numero de personas que acudio. Mas bien, fue
la diversidad de todo tipo que lleno a mi corazon
de alegría y agradecimiento al Senor por
convocarnos – hermanos y hermanas caucasicos
blancos,
Hispanos,
Asiaticos,
Africanos,
Afro-Americanos, jovenes y mayores, casados y
solteros, etc. – todos escuchando la misma Palabra
de Dios en la misma Iglesia, el Cuerpo de Cristo.
El anuncio del amor incondicional resucitado de
Cristo por todos en cada uno de los diversos
caminos y formas de vida nos une y nos convoca
por medio del poder del mismo Espíritu Santo.
En el Evangelio de hoy escuchamos a Jesus darles a Sus discípulos un nuevo mandamiento, "Que se amen los unos a los otros,
como yo los he amado". (Jn 13:34) Este tiempo de Evangelizacion en nuestra parroquia nos trae a la fuente y al principio de
cada pensamiento, palabra y accion en nuestra vida parroquial, y en nuestros matrimonios y familias: El amor crucificado y
resucitado de Cristo por nosotros los pecadores. El amor incondicional de Cristo debe aparecer por medio del amor, la misericordia,
el perdon, la paciencia, y ternura que tenemos por nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Nuestra fe no debe ser vivida sola. Cristo
anhela unirnos mor medio de su amor y anhela que tengamos una comunion Cristiana y unidad el uno con el otro. Si no podemos
amar a alguna persona, o nos ponemos a nosotros mismos antes que los demas, es porque no estamos viviendo y actuando del
amor de Cristo por nosotros en la Cruz.
En nuestra sociedad postmoderna la comunion cristiana no existe. Un estudio reciente, publicado por dos profesores de psicología
de la Universidad de Chicago llaman a la soledad una nueva epidemia – un problema con riesgos de salud físicos reales.
Dice, "El sentimiento de soledad, al principio, hace que una persona intente entablar relación con otras, pero con el
tiempo la soledad puede fomentar el retraimiento, porque parece una alternativa mejor que el dolor del rechazo, la
traición o la vergüenza”. Muchas veces, la causa de nuestra soledad es temor. Tenemos miedo de ir hacia el otro, porque es
diferente a nosotros. Creemos la mentira de que por ser diferentes – de otro país, de otra raza, de otra edad, de otro estatus
economico – no podemos tener unidad.
La Buena Noticia es que Jesucristo rompe a traves de nuestras diferencias, nuestros miedos, nuestras barreras, y nos da el uno
al otro para amarnos como Cristo nos ama. El escuchar su voz sana las heridas de división y nos une como una sola familia
parroquial que aprecia su diversidad. Fue bello ver esto tomando forma en las Catequesis esta semana pasada. En la multitud
había gente joven, mayor, soltera, casad, familias enteras, de diferentes grupos etnicos, todos sentados juntos para escuchar la
proclamacion del Evangelio. Personas que hablan ingles se sentaron junto a personas que hablan espanol, escuchando la misma
Palabra, al mismo tiempo. Las Catequesis son en ingles con traduccion en espanol dada en tiempo real, por medio de radios
individuales, para que todos puedan entender.
Este es el poder del Evangelio. La proclamacion del "kerigma”, la Buena Nueva de salvacion en Cristo, tiene el poder de transformarnos
y unirnos. Cuando ponemos a Jesucristo en el centro de nuestras vidas y en el centro de nuestra parroquia, es posible
ser uno. Es posible ser una comunidad que camina junta en la verdad, que comparte sus sufrimientos, que ve a Cristo
en el rostro del otro. Lo vemos en la primera lectura de este fin de semana. Despues de que Pablo y Bernabe anuncian la Buena
Nueva, regocijan juntos con los demas. "Al llegar, reunieron a la comunidad y les contaron lo que había hecho Dios por medio de
ellos y como les había abierto a los paganos las puertas de la fe ". (Hechos 14:27)
Los invito a que abran sus corazones al regalo del poderoso amor de Cristo. Si se sienten solos, no amados, o distante de todos,
crean esta promesa que el amor de Dios puede hacer todo nuevo. (Ap. 21:5a) Las Catequesis continuan esta semana. Si se perdio
de las platicas de la semana pasada, no es demasiado tarde. Comienzan a las 7:30 pm los LUNES Y JUEVES en el Great Room.
No necesita inscribirse ni registrarse. No es necesario traer nada. ¡Solo vengan y escuchen!

The team giving the Catechesis is made up of a
priest, a young married couple expecting their
seventh child, and a seminarian. They give their
lives to proclaim God’s love out of gratitude for
what He’s done in their lives. The couple, the
Gennarinis, gave their experiences, speaking about
the way God, through these talks, gave them a
new life.
El equipo dando las Catequesis esta compuesto por
un sacerdote, un matrimonio joven esperando su
séptimo hijo, y un seminarista. Ellos dan sus vidas
para proclamar el amor de Dios, en gratitud por lo
que Él ha hecho en sus vidas. La pareja, los
Gennarinis, dieron sus experiencias, hablando
sobre la manera en la que Dios, por medio de
estas pláticas, les dio una vida nueva.

“For his mercy endures forever”
"Eterna es su
Misericordia"
Part 4 of the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of
Mercy. Pope Francis:
“For his mercy endures forever.” This is the refrain that
repeats after each verse in Psalm 136 as it narrates the
history of God’s revelation. By virtue of mercy, all the
events of the Old Testament are replete with profound
salvific import. Mercy renders God’s history with Israel
a history of salvation. To repeat continually “for his
mercy endures forever,” as the psalm does, seems to
break through the dimensions of space and time, inserting
everything into the eternal mystery of love. It is as if to
say that not only in history, but for all eternity man
will always be under the merciful gaze of the Father.
Before his Passion, Jesus prayed with this psalm of mercy.
Matthew attests to this in his Gospel when he says that,
“when they had sung a hymn” (26:30), Jesus and his disciples
went out to the Mount of Olives. While he was instituting
the Eucharist as an everlasting memorial of himself and
his paschal sacrifice, he symbolically placed this supreme
act of revelation in the light of his mercy. Within the very
same context of mercy, Jesus entered upon his passion and
death, conscious of the great mystery of love that he
would consummate on the Cross. Knowing that Jesus
himself prayed this psalm makes it even more
important for us as Christians, challenging us to take
up the refrain in our daily lives by praying these
words of praise: “for his mercy endures forever.”
With our eyes fixed on Jesus and his merciful gaze, we
experience the love of the Most Holy Trinity. The mission
Jesus received from the Father was that of revealing
the mystery of divine love in its fullness. “God is
love” (1 Jn 4:8,16), John
affirms for the first and
only time in all of Holy
Scripture. This love has
now been made visible
and tangible in Jesus’
entire life. His person is
nothing but love, a love
given gratuitously. The
relationships he forms
with the people who
approach him manifest
something entirely unique
and unrepeatable. The
signs he works, especially
in favor of sinners, the
poor, the marginalized,
the sick, and the suffering,
are all meant to teach
mercy. Everything in him
speaks of mercy. Nothing
in him is devoid of
compassion.

Testamento estan cargadas de un
profundo valor salvífico. La misericorhace de la
historia de Dios con Israel una historia de salvacion. Repetir
continuamente “Eterna es su misericordia”, como lo hace
el Salmo, parece un intento por romper el círculo del espacio
y del tiempo para introducirlo todo en el misterio eterno
del amor. Es como si se quisiera decir que no solo en la
historia, sino por toda la eternidad el hombre estará
siempre bajo la mirada misericordiosa del Padre.
Antes de la Pasion Jesus oro con este Salmo de la
misericordia. Lo atestigua el evangelista Mateo cuando
dice que "despues de haber cantado el himno" (26,30),
Jesus con sus discípulos salieron hacia el Monte de los
Olivos. Mientras instituía la Eucaristía, como memorial
perenne de El y de su Pascua, puso simbolicamente este
acto supremo de la Revelacion a la luz de la misericordia.
En este mismo horizonte de la misericordia, Jesus vivio su
pasion y muerte, consciente del gran misterio del amor de
Dios que se habría de cumplir en la cruz. Saber que Jesús
mismo hizo oración con este Salmo, lo hace para
nosotros los cristianos aún más importante y nos
compromete a incorporar este estribillo en nuestra
oración de alabanza cotidiana: “Eterna es su
misericordia”.
Con la mirada fija en Jesus y en su rostro misericordioso
podemos percibir el amor de la Santísima Trinidad. La
misión que Jesús ha recibido del Padre ha sido la de
revelar el misterio del amor divino en plenitud. "Dios
es amor" (1 Jn 4,8.16), afirma por la primera y única
vez en toda la Sagrada Escritura el evangelista Juan.
Este amor se ha hecho ahora visible y tangible en toda
la vida de Jesús. Su persona no es otra cosa sino amor. Un
amor que se dona gratuitamente. Sus relaciones con las
personas que se le acercan dejan ver algo unico e irrepetible.
Los signos que realiza, sobre todo hacia los pecadores,
hacia las personas pobres, excluidas, enfermas y sufrientes
llevan consigo el distintivo de la misericordia. En El todo
habla de misericordia. Nada en El es falto de compasion.

Youth Enjoy Christian Movie and Fellowship
Last week, 35 youth from Queen of Peace had the
opportunity to watch together, “God’s Not Dead 2,” a
Christian film about standing up for one’s faith in an
increasingly secular world. It was a good time of
fellowship and a way to put into practice what the
group encourages the youth to do—to be missionaries
outside the parish. Many represented the parish by
wearing Queen of Peace T-shirts.
Jóvenes Disfrutan de Película Cristiana y Convivencia
La semana pasada, 35 jovenes de Reina de la Paz
tuvieron la oportunidad de ver juntos, “Dios No Esta
Muerto 2,” una película Cristiana sobre la
importancia de defender su fe en un mundo
cada vez mas secular. Fue un buen rato de
convivencia y una manera de poner en practica lo que el grupo anima a que hagan los
jovenes—a ser misioneros afuera de la parroquia.
Muchos representaron a la parroquia al portar
camisetas de Reina de la Paz.

Did you know? Some of the assistance we provide for our guests is: a threeday food and toiletry basket every 30 days, financial help to get a Colorado
photo ID, access to a telephone to make local calls, mail file so our guests have
a safe place for their personal mail to be delivered, free books and magazines,
bibles and rosaries, and resource listings to help our guests with names and
phone numbers of other agencies.
This week’s most needed items are… deodorant, laundry powder, razors,
shaving cream, and toothpaste.
Please leave your donated food items the wooden bench, across from the
Welcome Desk, in the Gathering Space.
