We hear Moses’ words in the first reading, “Would
that all the people of the Lord were prophets.” A
prophet speaks on behalf of another. For us
Christians, the other a prophet speaks on behalf of
is God. Would that we all were prophets. Would
that we all speak for God.
As Christians, that is just what we are. We are
prophets. We are joined to Jesus Christ, and our
lives bear witness to Him. We who bear the name
Christian give witness to Jesus Christ by the way
we live our lives.
The gospel gives us an image of the gravity of this blessing and
responsibility. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in
me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put
around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.” Jesus is saying
the witness we give to others is very important, a matter of life or death.
How are we doing as a prophet? What kind of witness
What kind are we giving to Christ by the way we live our lives?
of witness
are we
giving to
Christ by
the way we
live our
lives?
In prayer and reflection, let us be open to both the
positive and the negative here. Let’s look at our
strengthens and give thanks to God for the blessings
in our lives, but also look at the areas where we still
need to let the transforming grace of God break
through. What in our life still needs to be cut off, so
our new life in Christ can take root, grow, and shine
for all to see? Jesus is here today, what is He
preaching to you? ©2015 Life Teen, Inc. All rights reserved.
Family saves us from fragmentation and
uniformity: Pope Francis
A cheerful giver does not count the cost of what
he gives. His heart is set on pleasing and
cheering the one to whom the gift is given. - St. Julian
The Family “saves us from two present-day
phenomena: fragmentation and uniformity.”
“Societies which are divided, broken, separate or
rigidly uniform are a result of the breakup of family
bonds.” Pope Francis, Cuba, Sept 22, 2015

Every time that we make the sign of the cross, we draw closer
to the great mystery of the Trinity.
Left motherless at four-years old,
she followed two older sisters into
the cloistered Carmelites, entering
at fifteen as Sister Thérèse of the
Infant Jesus. St. Thérèse was
unable to travel to the missions
during her lifetime, but prayed
fervently for their success. In
1896, she contracted tuberculosis
and after months of suffering died
at the age of twenty-four.
Posthumous publication of her
autobiography, “The Story of a Soul,” prompted popular devotion. The
“Little Flower” is remembered for her “little way” of seeking
perfection in the ordinary with a simple but total trust in God. She is
the patron of missions and missionaries. In 1997, St. John Paul II
declared her a Doctor of the Church.
Christian community calls families
“domestic churches”. It is in the
warmth of the home that faith fills
every corner, lights up every space,
builds community. At those moments,
people learn to discover God’s love
present and at work. Pope Francis,
Santiago, Cuba, Sept 22, 2015
World Meeting of Families Prayer
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us
your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love
help our families
in every part of the world
be united to one another
in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those
most troubled, to be homes of
communion and prayer and to always
seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
pray for us!

profetas. Que hablemos de Dios.
Como cristianos, eso es lo que somos. Somos
profetas. Estamos Unidos a Jesucristo, y nuestras

Salvador, nos has hecho tus hijos e
hijas en la familia de la Iglesia.
Que tu gracia y amor
ayuden a nuestras familias
en cualquier parte del mundo
a estar en unión con las demás
en fidelidad al Evangelio.
Que el ejemplo de la Sagrada

a ser casas de comunión y oración
y a buscar siempre tu verdad y vivir
en tu amor.
Por Cristo nuestro Señor. Amén.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING is a multi-billion
dollar business
in the State of
California and
the Central
Valley is one of
its major
corridors. Our
diocese is
supporting an initiative by the Episcopal
Diocese of San Joaquin to raise
awareness of this crime and to help its
victims. From October 2 – 23, a group of
bicyclists (5 to 8 in the Tour Team) will ride
750 miles over 18 days throughout Central
California. As the Tour goes through
communities, towns, and cities, the Tour
Team will be joined by other riders
including various cycling clubs throughout
the valley. Large numbers of cyclists are
anticipated during different “legs” of the
Tour, which includes 26 stops. Bishop
Ochoa is riding in one of these legs and
we encourage your participation and
support of this event. We especially need
riders! If you would like to ride in the Tour
or contribute to several charities which
help victims of human trafficking, you can
do so by going to this website (Tour
