GRAIN OF WHEAT
“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a
grain of wheat falls to the ground and
dies, it remains just a grain of wheat;
but if it dies it produces much fruit.” (Jn
12:24-25) We understand the meaning
of this statement in that the grain of
wheat must be buried and in a sense
die if it is to be reborn and to grow and
produce wheat.
That is similar to what we should have
been trying to accomplish during this
holy Lenten season. The term “born
again” is a popular phrase in many churches, but this rebirth is also
what we strive for in our Catholic Church. We are reborn in multiple
ways — through Baptism, through our ongoing conversion, and through
our daily efforts to be good stewards.
Lent is, of course, the ideal time for us to seek this rebirth. Our efforts
through the past several weeks should have been to bury our old self
and to be reborn with a deeper sense of faith and trust in God. Easter is
but two weeks away and Lent officially ends on Holy Thursday.
However, it is not too late to rededicate ourselves to God-centered
lives. St. John Eudes put it this way, “Let us therefore give ourselves to
God with great desire to begin to live thus, and beg Him to destroy in us
the life of the world of sin, and to establish His life within us.”

Hungering for Celebration!
We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we celebrate! Our Lenten
journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus
reigns forever. And soon we’ll rejoice in our risen Lord—and in the
lives we’ve changed this Lent in Tanzania, Nicaragua, Niger, Lebanon,
the Democratic Republic of Congo and all over the world! Remember
to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl this weekend March 21 & 22. At
the Offertory, you will be invited to walk forward into the sanctuary
and place your family's rice bowl into the containers in front of the
altar. Thank you!

@Pontifex March 14
Lent is a time for drawing near to Christ by
listening to the word of God and celebrating the
sacraments.
@Pontifex March 12
Beware of getting too comfortable! When we are
comfortable, it’s easy to forget other people.
@Pontifex March 9
Humility saves man: pride makes him lose his
way.
REFLECTION
Death is often a taboo subject in our culture.
We are sheltered from seeing it, talking
about it, and coming to terms with it. This is
not right. As a Christian, I know that death is
a beautiful part of life that ends our earthly
toil. In this Gospel passage, the idea of
death is taken a step further by Jesus.
Extending beyond the notion of physical
death, He speaks to me about a death to
my earthly desires. I know that I still have a
ways to go, but I truly want to allow Christ to
live through me. To do this, I must lose my
life now in order to gain it in heaven. I want
nothing more than to be a true Christian – a
person who gives glory to God in everything
I do. Brandon, 17 - LIFETEEN

Solemnity of the Annunciation of
the Lord March 25
This solemnity recalls the
announcement to Mary by the angel
Gabriel that she has found favor with
God and will bear the Son of God. Their
exchange is found in Luke chapter 1,
verses 26-38. When Mary asks how this
is to happen, the angel tells her the Holy Spirit will come upon her and
cites the unexpected pregnancy of her cousin, Elizabeth, in her old age,
as a sign that nothing will be impossible for God. This major feast,
exactly nine months before Christmas, was celebrated liturgically in the
East by the fifth century and in the West by the seventh century.

In just a few short weeks, the Church will welcome thousands of new
Catholics at Easter Vigils across the country.
These catechumens along with candidates--those that have been baptized Christian and
seek full communion with the Catholic Church--complete a process called the Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults or RCIA.
LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY will continue on Tuesday, April
14 with the Book of Daniel. We welcome new participants to join us for
this next series of our Bible study. Our group meets on Tuesday evenings
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Parish Center. Study
materials will be available from the facilitator. If you have any questions,
please contact Martha at [email protected].
The three pillars of Lent are prayer,
fasting, and almsgiving.
Let us pray for these elect whom the
Church has confidently chosen. May they
successfully complete their long
preparation and at the paschal feast find
Christ in his sacraments.

Basándose en las palabras de Jesús, Mariano
de Blas, compuso su canto: "Entre tus
manos".
consagrado a Dios. Somos
--Fray Gilberto

OTHER NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Christians in Commerce (Men’s )
Christians in Commerce is an
ecumenical organization dedicated
to bring Jesus Christ to the market
place. There are twenty-six chapters,
comprised of men or women in the US and
several in Uganda. The Fresno chapter
has 30 members which 20 are very active.
We sponsor retreats twice a year, usually
held at St. Anthony’s Retreat in Three
Rivers. We meet every Wednesday @
6:30am in the Conference Room and the
chapter is divided in small groups called
challenge groups numbering anywhere
from 3 to 6 members. Once a year CIC
holds a National Conference attended by
both men and women. Coordinator: Francis
Samson

Christians in Commerce (CIC)
(Fresno Women’s Chapter)
This is a nonprofit ecumenical
Christian ministry of lay women working
together to bring Christ to the workplace
and our homes. It is made up of men &
women across the continental United
States. We cordially invite you to “come
and experience” the Women’s Fresno
Chapter. We meet from 6:30am to 7:30am
every Thursday in the Conference
Room. Our meetings consist of pr ayer ,
talks and praise & worship. It is not a bible
study or a business networking group;
these are worthy endeavors but not what
we do in CIC. For more information
please pick up a brochure in the Parish
Office or go to christiansincommerce.org/

at: 355-7403.
