Dear Parishioners,
December 20, 2015
Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent. The Church
invites us now to focus our attention and preparation as we recall the mystery of the first coming of
the Lord in the flesh. In just five days, we will be
celebrating the birthday of the Lord. What a great
mystery and an awesome blessing for all humanity
and the entire creation that the “Word was made
flesh and dwelt among us!” I hope and pray that
the graces of the past weeks have helped us to spiritually prepare for this great celebration of the nativity of our Lord.
I thank the Lord for being able to visit my home
country the past two weeks to preside at the wedding of my niece and her husband. It was a beautiful and memorable celebration of their commitment
to God and each other. I pray always for married
couples that God will continue to bless them and
that they remain faithful in their married vows for
the rest of their lives. Married couples have been
blessed by the grace of the sacrament of matrimony
to reflect and mirror God’s unconditional love and
mercy in their lives and in the world.
I met a good priest during the baptism of my
cousin’s son. At the reception, he mentioned about
the importance of empowering our lay people in the
work of evangelization. He mentioned that with the
shortage of priests and religious men and women,
we have to truly encourage our laity to take active
leadership in the Church. What impressed me most
in our conversation was that he stressed the critical
role of priests and religious in empowering our laity.
He also mentioned that we should be able to train
our lay people who are already active in the Church
to become evangelizers, that is, to spread the Good
News of Salvation in Christ Jesus. For this to happen, my friend said we need zealous priests/ religious who will act as witnesses of the new evangelization in the world. Let us pray that as we prepare
for Christmas, we may have more zealous priests
who will empower lay people for the spread of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hoy es el cuarto Domingo de Adviento. La Iglesia nos
invita a enfocar nuestra atención y preparación al recordar el misterio de la venida de nuestro Señor encarnado.
En tan sólo cinco días, estaremos celebrando el nacimiento del Señor. ¡Qué gran misterio y una bendición
increíble para toda la humanidad y toda la creación que
el "Verbo se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros!" Espero
y rezo para que las gracias de estas dos semanas anteriores nos hayan preparado espiritualmente para esta
gran fiesta de la natividad de nuestro Señor.
Doy gracias al Señor por haber podido visitar mi país estas últimas dos semanas para presidir en la boda de mi
sobrina y su esposo. Fue una celebración hermosa y memorable de su compromiso con Dios y entre sí. Siempre
rezo por las parejas casadas para que Dios siga bendiciéndolos y se mantengan fieles a sus votos de casados
por el resto de sus vidas. Las parejas casadas han sido
bendecidas por la gracia del Sacramento del matrimonio
para reflejar el amor y misericordia incondicional de Dios
en sus vidas y en el mundo.
Conocí a un buen sacerdote durante el bautismo del hijo
de mi primo. En la recepción, mencionó acerca de la importancia de capacitar a nuestros laicos en el trabajo de
evangelización. Mencionó que con la escasez de sacerdotes y religiosos y religiosas, tenemos que animar verdaderamente a nuestro laicos a asumir el liderazgo activo
en la Iglesia. Lo que más me impresionó en nuestra conversación fue que hizo hincapié en el papel fundamental
de los sacerdotes y religiosos en la capacitación de nuestros laicos. También mencionó que deberíamos ser capaces de entrenar a nuestros laicos que ya están activos en
la Iglesia para convertirse en evangelizadores, es decir,
para difundir la Buena Nueva de la Salvación en Cristo
Jesús. Para que esto suceda, mi amigo dijo que necesitamos sacerdotes abnegados/religiosos que actúen en calidad de testigos de la nueva evangelización en el mundo.
Oremos para que, mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad, podamos tener sacerdotes cada vez más entregados
para formar a los laicos para la propagación del Evangelio de Jesucristo.

4th Sunday of Advent
"Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in
haste." What was the rush? Why did Mary go so
quickly to visit her cousins Elizabeth and Zechariah?
It's hard to know exactly what her purpose was, but
one thing is clear: Mary and Elizabeth shared a special
connection. Perhaps Mary was anxious to be in the
company of someone who could understand her unusual situation.
At this point, Mary was newly pregnant by the power
of the Holy Spirit. The verses preceding today's reading tell us about the appearance of the Angel Gabriel
and Mary's willingness to become the mother of the
Messiah. Now, this child was already growing within
her womb, but the whole thing was an incredible secret. Who would believe her? In whom could Mary
confide the unbelievable events that had taken place?
We know that at some point later, Joseph had a vision
in a dream that allowed him to understand. But before
that dream came, he was planning to part ways with
Mary. It must have been during that difficult time that
Mary went to see Elizabeth. And what joy that upon
her arrival, Elizabeth immediately understood.
"Blessed is the fruit of your womb," Elizabeth cried
out. The same Holy Spirit who conceived Jesus in
Mary's womb enlightened Elizabeth at this moment.
What a consolation this must have been to Mary.
This story reminds us of the importance of our own
fellowship in the faith. Sharing our spiritual journey
with other believers who are receptive to the Holy
Spirit is meant to be a source of encouragement and
strength. We are not supposed to be in this alone. As
we worship and celebrate together with our faith community, may we share with each other the real joy of
this sacred season.
4º Domingo de Adviento
Tal vez has visitado Tierra Santa y en el recorrido has
visitado Belén, pueblo pequeño entre las aldeas de
Judá. El lugar es sencillo, muy hermoso, su gente es
amable y tranquila. Al estar ahí te explican la forma
de vivir de la gente pobre en tiempo de Jesús, que en
su mayoría eran pastores, te parece imposible que el
Señor Rey de Reyes haya nacido allí. Te quedas extasiado cuando visita la capilla donde hay pinturas del
nacimiento de Jesús en ellos se muestra a los pastores llenos de gozo saltando de alegría, corriendo a
toda prisa presurosos al lugar exacto donde estaba el
niño con sus padres. Ese Belén es del que el profeta
Miqueas dice en su profecía: "De ti, Belén de Efrata,
pequeña entre las aldeas de Judá, de ti saldrá el jefe
de Israel" (Miq 5, 1).
Hemos llegado al Cuarto Domingo de Adviento a estas
alturas del recorrido nos damos cuenta de que el Señor viene a visitarnos, y, si queremos, se quedará en
nuestra casa. ¿Lo queremos? ¿Qué ambiente le hemos preparado? Es la buena noticia de este domingo;
el Hijo de Dios nos visita. La liturgia nos convoca para
estar atentos a la víspera de la Navidad. Las personas
encargadas de la liturgia deben dejar la iglesia engalanada para la Misa vespertina o de gallo. Dios actúa
por medio de la alegría de los humildes, tal como lo
hizo con los pastores de Belén. La participación en la
Eucaristía debe reflejar liberación de las cosas que
atan y alejan de su presencia. ¡Faltan cinco días!
¿Estás listo? Aún es tiempo de hacerlo si no lo estás.

Social Services and The Clothing Bank of Most Blessed
Trinity.
