Our Parish:
As anyone who reads the street signs in Copiague can see, Our Lady of The Assumption parish began as a home
for Italian immigrants. The parish was established in 1929 with the blessing of Pope Pius XI. The Church’s front
door is located on Molloy Street, named after the then Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, Bishop Thomas E Molloy. The parish buildings are surrounded by Dante Avenue, Campagnoli Street, and Leonardo DaVinci Street!
In the ensuing years, and in spite of the Depression, these hard working people built a brick Church, rectory,
and later, a parish auditorium.
As the demographics of Long Island changed, many of the Italian parishioners moved on and were replaced by
people from many Latin American countries and from Poland. Today, Our Lady of the Assumption is one parish
with parishioners speaking several different languages in addition to English. In addition to four English language
Masses every weekend, the parish celebrates two Masses in Spanish and two Masses in Polish.
These Spanish and Polish Masses give those who come from these cultures the opportunity to worship in their
native languages. All other activities are carried out with the hope of living as one group of Americans, praising
God and living as devout Christians in response to Jesus prayer “that all may be one”.

Our Lady of the Assumption
National Night of Prayer for Life
The National Night of prayer for Life will take place
on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception during
the Exposition of the Holy Eucharist on December
8th at 8PM through 1AM, December 9th. The Expostion will take place in the Church.
OLA Parish will unite with other parishes during this
time throughout America to pray to establish the
Culture of Life, restore God’s law and protect the
Church and the faithful from persecution.
A minimum of four people are required every hour
from 8PM to 1AM for the Eucharistic Adoration.
Sign-up sheets will be available after Masses or at
the Rectory.
MINISTRY OF CONSOLATION
The mission of the Ministry of Consolation is to
walk with and support with loving care those
who are grieving for lost loved ones.
The Ministry of Consolation is looking for volunteers to help with funeral Mass preparations.
Duties would include:
-Contacting the bereaved family to
set up a meeting.
-Make decisions regarding reading,
music and preparations of gifts that
will take place during the Mass for the
deceased.
-Contact one of the cake bakers.
-Attend the funeral Mass.
*They are also in need of bakers*

OUTREACH PROGRAM
The Christmas “Giving” Trees are set up in the
Church and the Auditorium adorned with ornaments
for children and seniors of our parish. Here’s
the deal, you take an ornament, purchase and
wrap the present and then SECURELY ATTACH
THE ORNAMENT TO THE OUTSIDE FRONT OF
THE GIFT. Please return the gifts to the bins
in the Auditorum or Church or drop them off at
the Outreach as soon as possible but no later
than December 15th. May God bless you for
your steadfast generosity.
Food pantry needs this week are: Canned tuna
fish, canned/boxed milk, toilet paper, toothpaste,
bath soap and shampoo. Thank you.
FLOWER COLLECTION
Next week, there will be a second collection for our
Christmas Flowers. A Flower Collection envelope
was included with your regular collection envelopes
received in the mail. For the past few years, many
of you have made good use of this change and for
that reason our Ladies of the Rosary Society will not
be at the doors after Masses. If you did not receive
an envelope, please feel free to drop your donation
in the collection basket during Mass. Thank you.

Catholic and Christian Churches in the Town of
Babylon as well as Suffolk County officials have
begun an initiative to shelter homeless persons
this winter season. In order for our Parish to par-
ticipate in this ministry, a volunteer committee

JORNADA NACIONAL DE
ORACION POR LA VIDA
La Jornada Nocturna Nacional de Oración por la
Vida se realizará en la Fiesta de la Inmaculada
Concepción durante la Exposición del Santísimo
Sacramento, el día 8 de Diciembre desde las 8 de la
noche hasta la 1 de la mañana del día 9 de
Diciembre. La Exposición será en la Iglesia.
Nuestra Parroquia se unirá con otras Parroquias a
lo largo de todo los Estados Unidos, a la misma
hora, para orar por el establecimiento de la Cultura
de la Vida, la Restauración de la Ley de Dios y por
la Protección de la Iglesia y los fieles, de
persecución.
Necesitamos mínimo 4 personas, cada hora desde las
8:00PM hasta la 1:00 AM para la Adoración de la
Eucaristía. Usted podrá registrarse después de todas las

łączyli się na czuwaniu wraz z wiernymi w całych
Stanach Zjednoczonych. Będzie to modlitwa o ochronę
życia poczętego, położenie kresu pladze aborcji i
obronę wolności religijnej w Ameryce. 8 grudnia to
uroczystość Niepokalanego Poczęcia, a 9 grudnia to
święto św. Jana Diego, któremu ukazała się Matka Boża
z Guadalupe, która jest patronką obu Ameryk i dzieci
nienarodzonych.
W każdej godzinie Adoracji Eucharystycznej (tj.

W następną niedzielę zbierzemy drugą kolektę na
kwiaty do dekoracji kościoła i audytorium na Święta
Bożego Narodzenia. Jak co roku, Państwa szczodrość
pozwoli nam przystroić ołtarze pięknymi kwiatami
na czas swiąt. Jeżeli otrzymali Państwo pocztą “koperty na Kwiaty” (Flower Collection Envelope),
prosimy aby użyć je w czasie zbierania drugiej tacy.

PROGRAM POMOCY SOCJALNEJ
PREZENT NA ŚWIĘTA
W kościele oraz audytorium zostały wystawione
drzewka przyozdobione ornamentami zawierającymi
prośby o paczki na święta dla uboższych osób z
naszej parafii (dzieci oraz osób starszych). Każdy
ornament zawiera informacje na temat osoby, do której
ma trafić nasza paczka, a także życzenie jaki ma to być
prezent. Zaangażujmy się w tę szlachetną akcję. Wasz
dar może sprawić komuś wielką radość na Boże
Narodzenie. Pamiętajmy, aby do ofiarowanego
(opakowanego) prezentu dołączyć ornament z
drzewka - dzięki temu będziemy mogli dostarczyć
prezent do właściwej osoby.
Prezenty można zostawiać w skrzyniach ustawionych
w audytorium lub w kościele lub bezpośrednio w
Outreach najpóźniej do 15 grudnia.

Prosimy Was ponadto (do naszego magazynu) o
tuńczyka w puszkach, mleko niewymagające przechowywania w lodówce (w puszkach i kartonikach),

INICJATYWA DLA OSÓB BEZDOMNYCH
Kościoły katolickie i chrześcijańskie w Gminie
Babylon, a także Biura Powiatu Suffolk podjęły
inicjatywę pomagania tej zimy ( udzielania
schronienia) ludziom bezdomnym. Aby również
nasza parafia mogła pełnić tę posługę , musimy
utworzyć komitet wolontariuszy. Prosimy osoby

audytorium odbędzie się koncert karnawałowy
w wykonaniu zespołu Golec uOrkiestra. Będzie
to jedyny koncert w stanie Nowy Jork. Bilety do

Prepare the way of the Lord,

Today, the Second Sunday of Advent, we
hear John the Baptist proclaiming "a baptism of
repentance for the forgiveness of sins". As we
prepare for Christmas, this may be a good
starting point. Amid all the worldly preparations
we pursue, cleaning our house and decorating
inside and out, how much daily thought are we
giving to preparing spiritually for "the coming of
God in our day".
In today's liturgy, the first reading, the
psalm, and the second reading all speak of JOY. If
we are in touch with the daily news of terror,
shootings and political rhetoric, joy may be hard
to find. That's why we must seek our joy in God!
The Lord has done great things for us;
we are filled with joy.
On Tuesday, we celebrate the feast of the
Immaculate Conception, a holyday of obligation.

pray to Mary, "Cause of our Joy"
