Second Sunday of Advent
December 6, 2015
The Lord has done great things for us: we are filled with joy. (Psalm 126)
My Dear Sisters and Brothers:
This week, we will be celebrating two major Feast Days of Our Blessed Mother Mary. On Tuesday,
December 8, we will be celebrating a morning and an evening special Mass for Our Blessed Mother Mary of
the Immaculate Conception.
On Friday, December 11 and Saturday December 12th, We will celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of
Guadalupe.
I invite everyone to come and join us in any part of the festivities that we will be celebrating here at our parish throughout the
days of Friday and Saturday on Friday, December 11th in the late afternoon at 6 P.M., we will pray the rosary, and process
from Cobb Elementary School to our Family Life Center for the evening Mass. Following the Mass, we will continue
celebrating with a variety of traditional foods being sold in booths as well as entertainment by the “Matachines” Dancers. On
Saturday, December 12th we will celebrate “Las Mañanitas” early in the morning at 6 A.M.
I want to make a special plea for everyone to help us to provide groceries and toys to so many of our families who are
having difficult times right now. Please bring canned food items, rice, beans and toys as part of your sacrificial gifts and
offerings to God during these next couple of weeks. You can bring these gifts up and place them on the altar as well. May
these next few weeks help us to reflect on the true meaning of manifesting God’s Kingdom in our world today.
On Sunday December 13th., we will begin to accept Christmas tree ornaments representing each family so that we can
decorate our traditional Saint Andrew Family Christmas Tree. Please bring a non-fragile ornament to
represent your family to hang on the tree.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Christopher

Support elderly religious. A parishioner writes, “As a Catholic
school student from grades K–12, I was formed to be the person I
am by many religious brothers and sisters, and I am forever
grateful.” Show your appreciation for the senior Catholic sisters,
brothers, and religious order priests who made a positive
difference in so many lives. Please give generously to next
week’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious.

Today, we light the second candle on our
Advent wreath and continue to “Prepare the
way of the Lord” (Lk 3:4). During these
weeks of Advent, we are called to embark
on a spiritual journey that will ready our
hearts and minds to receive Jesus.
In our gospel reading, John the Baptist is the voice from
the edge foretold by the prophet Isaiah. His plea for
repentance offers further instruction for our Advent
journey. We are called to turn away from the thoughts,
words, and deeds that keep us from Christ.
recibir a Jesús.
SECOND WEEK The prayer that follows is to be
repeated each day of the second week. After the
prayer, the oldest child lights the first and second
purple candles.
Leader: O Lord, stir up our hearts that we may
prepare for Thy only begotten Son, that through His
coming we may be made worthy to serve Thee with
pure minds. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
The two candles are allowed to burn during the
evening meals of the second week.
