TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Often, when a family keeps vigil around a person who is
preparing for death, they may notice three interwoven
activities. First, the dying person may become more
prayerful and reflective than ever before, reviewing life's
journey in gratitude to God, or seeking forgiveness and
making amends for wrongs. Second, as death
approaches, the need to eat and drink is lessened until
even an ice cube brushed against the lips is satisfying.
Third, persons who are dying often make plans to give
their possessions away, making bequests, handing
treasures down, providing for favorite charities.
Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving: with these thr ee
"pillars" of Lent, we rehearse our death every year in
this season, and anticipate the final work we will do in
this life. And every year, at the end of our journey, is the
joy of Easter and the experience of the victory of Christ
over death's darkness and power. Annually, we remind
ourselves that the Christian experiences the same power
and presence at the end of life's journey: Christ to the
rescue and the lasting joy of heaven.

ADORATION AWARENESS
“Sਮ ਸਮ਴ ਢਮ਴ਫਣ ਭਮਲ਼ ਪਤਤਯ ਸ਼ਠਲ਼ਢਧ ਸ਼ਨਲ਼ਧ ਬਤ ਥਮ਱ ਮਭਤ
ਧਮ਴਱?" – Mਠਲ਼ਲ਼ਧਤਸ਼ 26:40
"This is why the (Church) Fathers felt they had a solemn
duty to warn the faithful that, in reflecting upon this most
sacred Sacrament, they should not pay attention to the
senses, which report only the properties of bread and wine,
but rather to the words of Christ, which have power great
enough to change, transform, "transelementize" the bread
and wine into His body and blood. As a matter of fact, as
the same Fathers point out on more than one occasion, the
power that does this is the same power of Almighty God
that created the whole universe out of nothing at the
beginning of time.
…..We beseech you to foster devotion to the Eucharist,
which should be the focal point and goal of all other forms
of devotion."
Pope Paul VI- Mysterium Fidei – September 3, 1965

Dear St. Anne Parishioners,
This past week although hectic, was truly an
inspirational week. This past Saturday we had our
workshop on “A Biblical Walk through the Mass”. We
had a great turnout. Thank you to all who participated
and a special thank you to our Altar Rosary ladies for
providing desserts and for helping with the cleaning
afterward and putting things away. I also want to say
thank you to a very dear lady who stepped up to the
plate when I asked her if she would be kind enough to
help me with registrations. THANK YOU MARIE
HIDALGO from the bottom of my heart. May God
continue to bless all of you!
This past weekend I also had the privilege of assisting
with the Rite of Sending this past Saturday during the
5pm Mass. We had 7 Candidates and 4 Catechumens.
On Sunday evening we went to Christ the Redeemer
where they were presented to the Cardinal for the Rite
of Election. Please continue to pray for each one of
them as they come to the end of this part of their
journey into the Catholic Faith. Cardinal DiNardo told
us that this class is a little over 200 within our
Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and is the largest in
the entire country out of all the Archdiocese’s in the
nation.
In today’s first reading we see where Abraham is put to
the test. A test that was not an easy one for God was
asking him to take his one and only son whom he loved
and go to the land of Moriah to offer him up as a
holocaust. A year ago at scripture study at St. Anthony,
we studied Genesis. I volunteered to give a Focus Talk
and it happened that we were reading this particular
chapter that week. So I took this reading, read it several
times and with the guide of the Holy Spirit, I came to
the conclusion how Abraham so willingly and with so
much love for the Father was willing to sacrifice his one
and only son. So this was how my story began, I have 4
children, would I be willing just like Abraham to give
any one of my children or perhaps all of them up to
God? Then I reflected and realized that they had been
gifts from God, given to me by Him, so why wouldn’t or
couldn’t give them back to Him. So often we forget that
all that we have is because our Heavenly Father has
given us the gifts that to some of us come so freely,
whether financial security, or healthy children,
children who have done well in their lives, and are free
from illness…at the end of the day all things are
blessings from God. Let us be mindful that without God,
we cannot act on our own. Or if we choose to make
decisions without including Him , then more than likely
they don’t turn out to be in our best interest. Take Adam
and Eve, Eve was tempted by the serpent, in turn she
offered Adam a bite of the apple hence what was the
outcome? During this time of Lent let us look back at
the times where we made mistakes because we didn’t
include God in our plans. Let us be mindful of His
presence. He is always there waiting for us to call on
Him!

Music Ministry
Perhaps chant is difficult or unfamiliar to you. Yet, the importance of Gregorian chant remains strong as a fundamental part of the
rich musical tradition of the Church. Singing during the Liturgy is important because “Of all the sounds of which human beings,
created in the image and likeness of God, are capable, voice is the most privileged and fundamental. Musical instruments in the
Liturgy are best understood as an extension of and support to the primary liturgical instrument, which is the human voice.” (Sing to
the Lord [SttL], no. 86)
“’The Church recognizes Gregorian chant as being [e]specially suited to the Roman Liturgy. Therefore, other things being equal, it
should be given pride of place in liturgical services.’ (Sacrosanctum Concilium [SC]), no. 116.) Gregorian chant is uniquely the
Church’s own music. Chant is a living connection with our forebears in the faith, the traditional music of the Roman rite, a sign of
communion with the universal Church, a bond of unity across cultures, a means for diverse communities to participate together in
song, and a summons to contemplative participation in the Liturgy.” (SttL no. 72) “Steps should be taken enabling the faithful to
say or to sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass belonging to them [e.i. Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei].”
(SC, no. 54)
“Gregorian chant draws its life from the sacred text it expresses, and recent official chant editions employ revised notation
suggesting natural speech rhythm rather than independent melodic principles. Singers are encouraged to adopt a manner of singing
sensitive to the Latin text.” (SttL no. 78)

The sick and hospitalized are to be held in thought and prayer. For their
family, friends, and faith community, it is often times the only way we
can help and support them.
Please remember names for the sick list in the bulletin have to be called
in to the Parish Office by the person who is ill or by a member of their
family. At the time they call in the name, they will be asked whether
they are the sick person him/herself, or a member of their family and if
they give permission for the name to be placed on the list. They will be
asked for the correct spelling of the sick person’s name. If a family
member, they will be required to give their name for our records. The
name will be in the bulletin for four weeks.
