Dear Parishioners,
We join our neighbors in praying for peace and
justice today. What are we really praying for?
The Second Vatican Council taught clearly that “peace
is not merely the absence of conflict,” but the common
good of humanity. This is based on respect for the dignity
of each and every human person. Where some lives,
some people, are considered less valuable, even
disposable, the whole of human society is disrupted.
Violence against even one will grow into conflicts among
all. Without the growth of the common good, the goal of
peace will not be realized.
If you want peace, work for justice. Justice is not
revenge or retaliation. Gandhi said, An eye for an eye
makes the whole world blind. St James says: man’s
anger does not accomplish God’s justice (1:20). Justice,
or righteousness, is right relationships. If we are not “right
with God” we cannot be right with our neighbor. If we are
not at peace with our neighbor, we cannot be at peace
with God. Often the only cure for anger is forgiveness. So
justice is also bound up with mercy.
The Biblical vision of justice is rooted in integrity,
sincerity, and holiness. Christians profess that only God’s
grace can make us whole. This is why we pray for both
justice and peace. What we cannot do, we entrust to God;
for what we can do, we ask God’s help.

Queridos en Cristo,
Nos unimos a nuestros vecinos en oración por la paz y la
justicia en la actualidad. ¿Por qué estamos realmente
rezando?
El Concilio Vaticano Segundo enseña claramente que "la
paz no es solamente la ausencia de conflicto", sino el bien
común de la humanidad. Esto se basa en el respeto por la
dignidad de todos y la dignidad de cada persona humana.
Cuando algunas vidas, algunas personas, se consideran
menos valiosas, incluso desechables, el conjunto de la
sociedad humana se interrumpe. La violencia en contra de
incluso una sola persona generará conflictos entre todos. Sin el
crecimiento del bien común, no se hará realidad el objetivo de
la paz.
Si quieres la paz, trabaja por la justicia. La justicia no es
venganza o represalia. Gandhi dijo: Ojo por ojo hace que el
mundo entero sea ciego. St. James dice: la ira del hombre no
logra la justicia de Dios (1:20). La justicia, o la moralidad, es
una relación correcta. Si no estamos "bien con Dios" no
podemos estar bien con nuestro prójimo. Si no estamos en paz
con nuestro prójimo, no podemos estar en paz con Dios. A
menudo, la única cura para la ira es el perdón. Así que la
justicia también está ligada a la misericordia.
La visión bíblica de la justicia se basa en la integridad, la
sinceridad, y la santidad. Los Cristianos profesan que sólo la
gracia de Dios nos puede hacer de nosotros todo. Es por eso

our Pro-Life work by the Archdiocese! Included in

success in the RLA is embodying the spirit of holiness &
courage in proclaiming the gift & dignity of all human life. God
has created each of us as masterpieces, lavishing care and
attention upon every person. While each is beautiful on its
own, together they compose a master work of art. Remove
one piece & the artwork is incomplete. That’s why every life
counts, whether unborn, disabled/diseased, elderly/infirmed.
We step back & see how ALL God’s people form a beautiful
image. And each labor of love, be it a whispered Rosary, a
prayerful Holy Hour, your calls/petitions/letters to pro-abortion

good PL organizations, and your compassionate

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
All Christians in both East and West embraced the care of
the sick as essential to church life. In the West, it was the visit
of the priest to the home that was emphasized, while in the
East, the sick person was brought to the church for a full
Liturgy. Among some Eastern Christians, the sick are
anointed with oil from the lamps which burn in front of the
icons of the saints.
Our tradition in the West also unfolded in monasteries,
where it was possible for infirm monks to be attended with a
full and beautifully consoling liturgy. In 950 the monks of St.
Alban’s Abbey in Mainz produced a ceremonial book that was
instantly a pastoral hit everywhere. There were two lengthy
rituals for the sick, one an extended vigil, and the other a
liturgy of anointing that included Communion under both
species. While this ritual was a house formula for monks, it is
easy to see how monks who had the care of parishes desired
to serve their parishioners in a similar way. The first form
included the chanting of penitential psalms, and the second
form required a confession beforehand. Both forms included a
laying on of hands, which was understood as sign of
forgiveness of sins.

The Adoration Chapel is open for prayer 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Call Parish Office for door entrance code. Exposition of the
Blessed Sacrament Wednesday 8:30 AM through Friday 11 PM.
Baptism
Baptism preparation session for parents are held on 1st Wednesday
of the month. Please call 314-733-1463.
Marriage
Engaged couples must contact one of the parish priests at least six
months prior to wedding.
Pastoral Care of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available upon request,
especially before surgery. Hospitals do not inform the parish of admissions. Priests will make hospital visits as soon as possible but
need to be informed by a family member.

To receive Holy Communion at home, please call the Parish Office.

La Capilla de Adoración (Capilla Eucarística) está abierta para rezar

Cuidado pastoral para los enfermos
El sacramento de unción de los enfermos está disponible bajo petición, especialmente antes de una operación. Los hospitales no informan a la parroquia de las admisiones de los enfermos. Los sacerdotes pueden ir a visitarlos al hospital tan pronto como un familiar del
enfermo nos deje saber en la oficina parroquial. En caso de una
emergencia por favor llame al 314-733-1463 y luego marque 9. Para
recibir la Sagrada Comunión en su casa, por favor llame a la Hna.
