Notes From the Pastor’s Desk
Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
This week's Gospel follows close behind the Gospel read last Sunday. It is the last of
three questions put to Jesus by Jewish religious leaders who are trying to trick him into saying something that might get him arrested. This reminds us that the context for today's reading is the mounting tension between Jesus and the religious leaders in Jerusalem.
The Herodians and the Pharisees asked the first question, which was about taxes. The Sadducees asked the
second question, which was about the Resurrection. The third question, considered in today's Gospel, is asked
by a Pharisee who asks Jesus about the greatest of the commandments.
The question requires Jesus to interpret the Law of Moses. The Mosaic Law consists of the Ten Commandments and many additional rules, numbering over six hundred. Adherence to the Mosaic Law, for a devout Jew,
is an expression of faithfulness to God's covenant with Israel. The ranking of the Commandments was regularly
debated among the teachers of the Law.
Jesus answers the Pharisees' question with a two-fold summary. Jesus says that all of the commandments
can be summarized in two commandments: love God and love your neighbor. Both of these were central elements of the religious tradition Jesus learned from his Jewish community. Indeed these continue to be central
aspects of contemporary Jewish religious understanding. Jesus' response to his questioners proposed an integral
connection between these two aspects of the Jewish Law. Love of God finds its expression in our love for our
neighbor.
Fr. Matteo
P. Matteo
30º Domingo do Tempo Comum

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
In this Sunday’s Gospel we find the truth that loving God isn’t merely a matter of fervor in our hearts, but that it must be expressed in doing good for the sake of others.
This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able
to show that we indeed love our neighbors by assisting families, providing
them with food and helping pay utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You! Call
954-213-4690 for help. To donate household goods, call St. Vincent Thrift Shop

FOR P RIESTS
Divine Grace, which always heals that which is
infirm and supplies that which is lacking has called our
beloved brothers to sacred ministry. Let us pray that they
be confirmed and strengthened with the grace of the
Holy Spirit.
Fill them with grace and counsel, that they may love
you with all their hearts, all their minds, and all their
strength. Grant them irreproachable conduct, steadfast
faith, and good works so that they may help and guide
your people with unselfish motivation.
Grant them wisdom, let their minds be sober and
watchful, so that they may be filled with works of healing and words of instruction. May they teach your people
in meekness and serve you in holiness with a undivided
mind and a willing soul.
May they be the light of your only begotten Son that
the word of your gospel may be spread and your name
may be glorified in every creature.
May they serve at your holy altar with pure hearts
and good consciences. Grant that they may prosper in all
your commandments and the keeping of your laws, so
that they may be able to minister joyfully on the day of
your coming.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE RE:
FINGERPRINTING
Please note that Fingerprinting scheduled for October 20 has been cancelled due to lack of participation.
Earlier messages clearly stated that the Archdiocese
required a minimum of 25 participants in order to send
their people and equipment to St. Vincent. We fell short
of that number.
However, the people who registered for fingerprinting can still have their prints taken, at no cost to them, by
registering on line as follows:
Employees: FPAOMParishEmp
Volunteers: FPAOMParishVol
After registering on line, call: 954-278-9005 to
schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted. This facility is approved by the Archdiocese.
The facility is located at 3200 NW 62 Ave., Margate, Fl., in Margate Plaza. It is called Coral Landings
Joint Venture.
If you have any questions, please call Marie Hurley,
DRE at 954-978-6124.

Lord Jesus, Savior of the world and King of Peace, watch
over our sons and daughters in the service of their country.
Protect them from the physical and moral dangers of military
life. Keep them close to You and help them live the Commandments. Lord Jesus, give them courage to serve their country with honor and dignity. Be with them when they are in
danger; strengthen them when they face hardships. Above all
Lord, grant that when their service is finished they may return
to us, sound in mind, body and soul. Amen.

Baptisms are held the last Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm.
Important: Registration must be completed in the
church office with one of the priests.

MUDANÇA DE HORÁRIO
Domingo,
2 de novembro, às
2am, atrase o
Estados Unidos.
vossos sacerdotes sob a proteção do vosso Coração
amabilíssimo, onde nada de mal lhes possa
suceder.
vida eterna. Amém!
