LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
"The spiritual power of the Sacraments is boundless. With

Dear Parishioners,
In today's world, people are very busy. Sometimes we
even feel much too busy to take time to reach out to neighbors in
need. It is very possible, however, that at the end of our life we
will see things quite differently. But even in the midst of our busyness, we can make an effort to love God by loving our neighbor,
precisely in the way we interact with the people around us. A true
Christian should always remember that people matter more than
things. We should never be too busy for a kind word or a sincere
smile.
But those of us who really are super-busy can also make
use of a secret weapon that allows us to do more in less time, to
fulfill both of Christ's two great commandments in one action. And
it doesn't add anything at all to our to-do list or calendar. It's so
simple that you might be tempted to shrug it off when I tell you but that would be a major mistake. What is this secret
weapon? Praying for other people. When we pray for people we
are exercising both loves at the same time: we show our love for
God by talking to him and expressing confidence in his goodness
and power, and we show our love for our neighbor by caring
about them. Each one of us should have a list of people we pray
for regularly - family members, coworkers, orphans, politicians,
Christians suffering persecution. We should keep the list
somewhere that we will have a chance to use it - near the
windshield of the car or the counter where we fold the laundry...
(The pope keeps his on his kneeler, where he does his morning
and evening prayers.) To pray regularly and sincerely for others it's the secret weapon for loving God and loving our neighbor.
During the Mass each time, let's promise to use that weapon well.

P.S. As I announced last Sunday, we are moving forward on
building the new Parish Activity Center.
1. This summer, the deed restrictions were changed and
recorded, allowing us to place the rear of the building 65 feet
from the Friendship Street .property line in the optimal
location
2. After the Festival, a check was deposited into savings bringing
our available building funds to over $1,000,000.00
3. Tuesday we got the go-ahead from the Archdiocese to
proceed with detailed plans and to be assured of being able to
borrow funds to complete the project. We haven’t got complete
costs yet but they have gone up considerably from when we
first began.

Queridos Feligreses:
En la actualidad, la gente está muy ocupada. A veces
incluso nos sentimos demasiado ocupados para hacer tiempo y
ayudar a vecinos necesitados. Sin embargo, es muy posible, que
al final de nuestras vidas veamos las cosas muy diferentes. Aún
en medio de nuestro ajetreo, hagamos un esfuerzo y amemos a
Dios por medio de nuestro prójimo. Mostremos nuestro amor a
Dios en la forma en que interactuamos con la gente que nos
rodea. Un verdadero Cristiano debe recordar siempre que las
cosas nunca deben ser más importantes que las personas.
Nunca deberíamos estar demasiado ocupados para una ofrecer
una palabra amable o una sonrisa sincera.
Pero incluso aquellos de nosotros que realmente
estamos muy ocupados podemos también hacer uso de un
arma secreta que nos permite hacer más en menos tiempo y
cumplir con dos grandes Mandamientos de Cristo en una sola
acción. Y esto no agrega nada en absoluto a nuestra larga lista
de tareas pendientes. Es algo tan simple que hasta puede ser
que a usted le dé por ignorarlo cuando me oiga decírselo, pero
ignorarlo sería un grave error. ¿Cuál es esta arma secreta? Orar
por otras personas. Cuando oramos por alguien, estamos
mostrando amor a dos personas al mismo tiempo: mostramos
nuestro gran amor y confianza por Dios. Le hablamos, le
pedimos, le expresando confianza en su bondad y su poder y al
mismo tiempo mostramos nuestro amor por el prójimo al
preocuparnos por ellos.
Cada uno de nosotros debe tener una lista de personas por las
cuales orar regularmente –los miembros de la familia, los
compañeros de trabajo, los huérfanos, los políticos, los Cristianos
que sufren persecución. Debemos mantener esta lista en algún
lugar donde tengamos la oportunidad de verlo constantemente –
en el tablero del auto, en el mueble donde doblamos la ropa...
(El Papa mantiene el suyo en su reclinatorio donde hace sus
oraciones matutinas y vespertinas). Orar con regularidad y
sinceridad por los demás es el arma secreta para amar a Dios y
amar a nuestro prójimo. Durante la Misa, prometamos usar bien

diariamente usan los dones de curación, de consejo, de prédica y
de celebración de la Sagrada Eucaristía para el beneficio de
Católicos de todas partes. Hoy pedimos bendiciones para
nuestros sacerdotes pidiéndole a Dios que continúe
bendiciéndolos en su ministerio.
Dios Padre Todopoderoso, Señor mio y Dios mio ¡Pastor
Eterno de las almas! Dígnate mirar con ojos de misericordia
a esta comunidad Católica de San Jerónimo que tanto te
ama. Señor, necesitamos mayor número de Sacerdotes,
multiplica las vocaciones y santifica más y más a nuestros
Sacerdotes. Señor, danos muchos y muy santos sacerdotes.
Te lo pedimos por la intercesión de Nuestra Santa madre la
Virgen María, tu dulce y santa Madre. ¡Oh Jesús, danos
muchos y muy santos sacerdotes según tu Corazón!

LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS - ¿Qué podemos ofrecerles? La
tradición de rezar por los muertos se remonta a los primeros
tiempos del cristianismo, en donde ya se honraba su recuerdo y
se ofrecían oraciones y sacrificios por ellos.
Cuando una persona muere ya no es capaz de hacer nada para
ganar el cielo; sin embargo, los vivos sí podemos ofrecer
nuestras obras para que el difunto alcance la salvación.
Con las buenas obras y la oración se puede ayudar a los seres
queridos a conseguir el perdón y la purificación de sus pecados
para poder participar de la gloria de Dios.
A estas oraciones se les llama sufragios. El mejor sufragio es
ofrecer la Santa Misa por los difuntos.
Debido a las numerosas actividades de la vida diaria, las
personas muchas veces no tienen tiempo ni de atender a los que
viven con ellos, y es muy fácil que se olviden de lo provechoso
que puede ser la oración por los fieles difuntos. Debido a esto, la
Iglesia ha querido instituir un día, el 2 de noviembre, que se
dedique especialmente a la oración por aquellas almas que han
dejado la tierra y aún no llegan al cielo.
La Iglesia recomienda la oración en favor de los difuntos y
también las limosnas, las indulgencias y las obras de penitencia
para ayudarlos a hacer más corto el periodo de purificación y
puedan llegar a ver a Dios. "No dudemos, pues, en socorrer a los
que han partido y en ofrecer nuestras plegarias por ellos".
Nuestra oración por los muertos puede no solamente ayudarles,
sino también hacer eficaz su intercesión a nuestro favor. Los que
ya están en el cielo interceden por los que están en la tierra para
que tengan la gracia de ser fieles a Dios y alcanzar la vida
eterna. Para aumentar las ventajas de esta fiesta litúrgica, la
Iglesia ha establecido que si nos confesamos, comulgamos y
rezamos el Credo por las intenciones del Papa entre el 1 y el 8
de noviembre, “podemos ayudarles obteniendo para ellos
indulgencias, de manera que se vean libres de las penas
temporales debidas por sus pecados”. (CEC 1479)

P.D. Como anuncié el domingo pasado, estamos avanzando con
los planes de la construcción del nuevo Centro de Actividades
Parroquiales.
1. Este verano, las restricciones fueron cambiadas oficialmente
permitiéndonos colocar la parte trasera del edificio a 65 pies de la
calle Friendship lo cual es una ubicación óptima.
2. Después del Festival de Otoño, se depositó un cheque en
nuestra cuenta de ahorros y los fondos para la construcción
subieron a más de un millón de dólares
3. El martes pasado recibimos el visto bueno de la Arquidiócesis
para proceder con los planes de construcción y asegurarnos de
tener el préstamo para completar el proyecto. Todavía no
tenemos el costo total. Los costos han subido considerablemente
desde el primer presupuesto.
REFLEXIÓN SOBRE LA ADMINISTRACIÓN DE LOS
BIENES DE DIOS – Para que aprendamos a poner nuestra
confianza en Dios en todo lo que hagamos. “Todo aquel que
ofrezca sacrificios a otros dioses, en vez de ofrecérselos al
Señor, será condenado.” – Exodo 22:20
¿Usted pone a otros "dioses" antes que a Dios? ¿Es su amor por
el dinero, el poder, el estatus, o alguna posesión personal más
grande que su amor por Dios? Si es así, talvez debería ponerle
atención a las escrituras porque no le va a agradar las
consecuencias. La buena noticia - aun no es tarde para poner a
Dios primero en su vida.

Hi, my name is David
Angelino and I was born
in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After moving several times, my family
finally moved to Houston in the summer of 2001. The
priesthood was something
that I considered on and off
through my childhood and
into high school. I had a deep
desire to serve God’s people
that wouldn’t go away. After
attending the University of St.
Thomas for a semester, I
entered the seminary.*
My favorite passage from
Scripture is Isaiah 55:1-2
because it says that God
freely gives grace to anyone
who approaches Him no
matter who we are.
MATTHEW KELLY with special musical guest, Eliott Morris
will be in St. Jerome on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 7-10:45

after Masses today and next Sunday. This is a huge
opportunity for us to grow in Faith and Spirit and have a great

REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP-Let’sput our trust in
God in everything we do. “Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to
the Lord only, shall be utterly destroyed.” – Exodus 22:20. Do
you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money, power,
status or some personal possession greater than your love for
God? The good news – it’s not too late to put God first in your life!

today as political rather than spiritual. Ironically, the enemy has
used this twisted perception to silence many in the body of
Christ. We must see the battle for what it is and
if we are to be prepared to face the spiritual
enemy on the issue of abortion, we must daily

Days for Life” at Planned Parenthood, Northwest Clinic,
13169 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040. (290 service
road at Hollister). Commit one hour or more between 10:00 am
and 2:00 pm. Pray the Rosary to
end abortion for parents in crisis
pregnancies and for abortion
providers. A few suggestions,
bring a hat, folding chair,
sunscreen, water bottle, Rosary,
prayer book. PRAY TO END

Catholic Daughters Court Ave Maria #2001 here at St. Jerome.
This program is an opportunity for all of us to rally for a safe
community and a strong country. This little white ribbon is a
symbol of decency. This white ribbon increased awareness of
pornography addiction. Many people, teens and children, are not
aware of the quickness of pornography addiction. Wear or
display a white ribbon during WRAP Week and all year long.

Los medios de comunicación, especialmente en las noticias,
han estado hablando mucho acerca del gran número de
estudiantes que habrá en cada salón en la mayoría de los
distritos escolares, algunos hablan de hasta 50 estudiantes por
clase con solo un profesor debido a radicales recortes
financieros. Bueno, los padres y abuelos
tienen una maravillosa alternativa justo aquí
en la parroquia. Todavía tenemos espacio
en nuestra escuela Católica de San
Jerónimo en casi todos los grados y
estamos listos a darles la bienvenida a
nuevos estudiantes que deseen transferirse.
Nuestros alumnos tienen objetivos de alto logro en normas
nacionales, no sólo en el TASS del estado de Texas. A
nuestros alumnos se les enseña una fuerte disciplina, cortesía
y sobre todo los valores de Jesucristo y la Iglesia Católica que
son tan necesarios en nuestro mundo hoy en día. Y claro que
sí, los estudiantes pueden orar siempre que lo deseen, asisten
a Misa durante el tiempo escolar, etc…

speakers, and loving enthusiastic Catholics?
How many of these special, gifted people have ever been invited
to consider becoming a priest, sister, brother, permanent deacon,
or full-time lay minister?
Statistics show that 80% of the 18-30 year olds in the United
States and Canada have never been asked to consider a Church
Vocation.
