THE PARABLE OF THE TENENTS

In today’s reading Matthew shares how Jesus continues
to be harassed by the Pharisees and religious leaders.
They seek every opportunity to engage Him in debates,
question His theology and discredit His teachings. Jesus
does not take the bait. Instead, He responds in parables
in an effort to not only teach us about the kingdom of
God, but also to illustrate the corrupt attitude of the religious leaders.
In this parable, Jesus talks about the Kingdom of heaven being similar to a King, inviting his people to partake
in a marriage celebration for his son. He sends his servants out to invite the guests – however they refuse to attend. The King sends the servants out again to bid them
to attend. Again they refuse, and they mistreat and/or kill
the servants. As Jesus is telling this story, the Pharisees
and religious leaders should recognize themselves as being the people who are invited to a celebration and refuse
to attend. They will experience God’s wrath and will not
go to Heaven. Jesus goes on to say in His story “they
which were bidden were not worthy”. The Pharisees and
religious leaders do not accept Jesus. They are not worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven.
We should all ask ourselves – “Am I similar to the
Pharisees and religious leaders?” “Do I question and discredit Jesus’s teachings?”
God calls us from the highways and the by-ways to join
Him. Let’s not reject His invitation.
2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, which are called by
my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek
my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I
hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land. †
Hermanos, en el evangelio de hoy Dios Padre nos hace
una invitación muy especial a un banquete.
Digamos si a esa invitación! !No la rechacemos, no
despreciemos el banquete. Una vez más hace muchos
pero muchos años atrás ha hiso esa misma invitación por
medio de sus “Siervos” los profetas. Pero los invitados
no quisieron venir.
Hoy día continúa la invitación al banquete que está preparado. Dios nos está esperando al banquete de boda de
su Hijo, es decir al banquete de la Eucaristía. El nos está
esperando con los brazos abiertos porque es nuestro padre celestial.
Hoy día recibimos diferentes invitaciones, por ejemplo
bautizos, quinceañeras, bodas, cumpleaños o simplemente una invitación a tomar un café, y hay estamos muy
puntuales verdad.
Qué triste es que despreciemos la invitación que continua haciéndonos el Rey de Reyes el Señor de Señores
digamos si e ir al encuentro del Señor ir al banquete de
boda del Cordero, es decir a la celebración de la Eucaristía. Hermanos que Dios padre los Bendiga hoy y siempre
porque él es Bueno siempre y siempre es bueno.†

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today vast numbers of people still do not
know Jesus Christ. For this reason, the mission ad gentes continues to be most urgent. All
the members of the Church are called to participate in this mission, for the Church is missionary by her very nature: she was born “to go
forth”. ….
1. The Evangelist tells us that the Lord sent
the seventy-two disciples two by two into cities
and villages to proclaim that the Kingdom of
God was near, and to prepare people to meet
Jesus. After carrying out this mission of preaching, the disciples returned full of joy: joy is a
dominant theme of this first and unforgettable
missionary experience. Yet the divine Master
told them: “Do not rejoice because the demons
are subject to you; but rejoice because your
names are written in heaven. At that very moment Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said:
‘I give you praise, Father...’ And, turning to the
disciples in private he said, ‘Blessed are the
eyes that see what you see’” (Lk 10:20-21, 23).
Luke presents three scenes. Jesus speaks first
to his disciples, then to the Father, and then
again to the disciples. Jesus wanted to let the
disciples share his joy, different and greater
than anything they had previously experienced.
2. The disciples were filled with joy, excited
about their power to set people free from demons. But Jesus cautioned them to rejoice not
so much for the power they had received, but
for the love they had received, “because your
names are written in heaven” (Lk10:20). The
disciples were given an experience of God’s
love, but also the possibility of sharing that
love. And this experience is a cause for gratitude and joy in the heart of Jesus. Luke saw this
jubilation in a perspective of the trinitarian
communion: “Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit”, turning to the Father and praising him.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Hoy en día todavía hay mucha gente que no
conoce a Jesucristo. Por eso es tan urgente la
misión ad gentes, en la que todos los miembros de la iglesia están llamados a participar,
ya que la iglesia es misionera por naturaleza:
la iglesia ha nacido “en salida”. ….
1. El evangelista cuenta que el Señor envió
a los setenta discípulos, de dos en dos, a las
ciudades y pueblos, a proclamar que el Reino
de Dios había llegado, y a preparar a los hombres al encuentro con Jesús. Después de cumplir con esta misión de anuncio, los discípulos
volvieron llenos de alegría: la alegría es un
tema dominante de esta primera e inolvidable
experiencia misionera. El Maestro Divino les
dijo: «No estéis alegres porque se os someten
los espíritus; estad alegres porque vuestros
nombres están inscritos en el cielo. En aquella
hora, Jesús se llenó de alegría en el Espíritu
Santo y dijo: “Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor
del cielo y de la tierra...” (…) Y volviéndose a
sus
discípulos,
les
dijo
aparte:
“¡Bienaventurados los ojos que ven lo que
vosotros veis!”» (Lc 10,20-21.23).
Son tres las escenas que presenta san Lucas.
Primero, Jesús habla a sus discípulos, y luego
se vuelve hacia el Padre, y de nuevo comienza
a hablar con ellos. De esta forma Jesús quiere
hacer partícipes de su alegría a los discípulos,
que es diferente y superior a la que ellos
habían experimentado.
2. Los discípulos estaban llenos de alegría,
entusiasmados con el poder de liberar de los
demonios a las personas. Sin embargo, Jesús
les advierte que no se alegren por el poder que
se les ha dado, sino por el amor recibido:
«porque vuestros nombres están inscritos en el
cielo» (Lc 10,20). A ellos se le ha concedido
experimentar el amor de Dios, e incluso la
posibilidad de compartirlo. Y esta experiencia de los discípulos es motivo de gozosa
gratitud para el corazón de Jesús. Lucas entiende este júbilo en una perspectiva de comunión trinitaria: «Jesús se llenó de alegría en el
Espíritu Santo», dirigiéndose al Padre y glorificándolo.
