You are invited to Fr. Charlie’s Lenten Bible Study on the
Sunday Readings held in the church at 10:30am and
repeated at 7pm each Tuesday through March 24

Monday, March 9, at 7pm in the Church. Everyone is
invited to attend and pray for vocations to the priesthood
and religious life. Stay after Mass to pray the rosary in the

CALLING ALL ARTISTS
Do you have artistic talent you would
like to share with your St. Jude Parish
community? Get your paint brushes, sewing machine,
knitting needles, sketch pads, or whatever your medium
may be, ready for this year's St. Jude Fine Arts Festival,
hosted by the St. Jude Home & School Association on
April 15, 6-8pm. There will be a community gallery in the
Scout room of the gymnasium in which parishioners are
invited to display their talents. Please contact Cammie
Hunt (645-1437or [email protected]) to submit your
works of art for others to enjoy!
As you arrive for Mass, the altar breads, water, and wine
are there in the inner lobby; chalices can be seen on the
credence table to the left of the altar. After Mass, as you
take a few minutes to talk to friends or get a hug from Fr.
Charlie, the “altar dishes” (sacred vessels) are cleared
away. Setting up for each Mass and cleaning up
afterwards are not difficult jobs, but our priest-celebrants
or deacons must do it—unless someone helps. This
“helper,” whom you may never see, is a Sacristan.
If you can devote a few minutes to this ministry before
and after Mass, or if you are a Sacristan now, please
come to the Parish Life Center on Thursday evening,

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
AT OUR LADY OF THE MOUNT
PARISH LIFE
VIRTUS TRAINING IN MARCH
The Gospel of John has been performed more than 600
times since 2001 in professional theaters and churches
across the U.S. and Europe. During this season of Lent,
the production will come to Our Lady of the Mount
Catholic Church on Lookout Mountain on Sunday,
March 1, at 6:30pm. Actor Brad Sherill—producer and star
of the one-man show—spent nearly five months
memorizing all 20,000 words of John’s gospel. Using a
dozen simple props in various ways, Sherrill transforms
the gospel into a captivating drama, presenting the entire
story of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. Seating for the performance begins at 6pm. No
reservation is necessary. An offering will be taken for
those who choose to contribute.
VIRTUS Training is required by our diocese for all adult
employees and volunteers who interact in programs with
parish or school youth. The next 3-hour VIRTUS
awareness session will be held at St. Jude on Thursday,
March 5, at 12 noon in the Parish Life Center. Please

BOX TOPS & LABELS FOR EDUCATION
PROGRAMS AT ST. JUDE SCHOOL
In the fall, St. Jude Parish raised $1,161 for the school
from the Box Tops for Education program. A HUGE
thank you to everyone who has been saving those box tops
and label points so far this year! The church community
helped out tremendously, bringing in more than
1,000 box tops! This first submission puts us nearly
halfway towards our 2014/2015 goal of raising $2,500
from the Box Top program and 10,000 Labels for
Education points. Please place your Box Tops and Labels
for Education items in the Campbell Soup logo bin or Box
Top labeled container in the church vestibule. Again,
thank you so very much for your continued support for
these programs!
OPEN HOUSE AT THE CONVENT OF THE
DOMINICAN SISTERS IN CHATTANOOGA
To celebrate this Year of Consecrated Life declared by
Pope Francis, the Dominican Sisters in Chattanooga
teaching at Notre Dame High School and nursing at
Memorial Hospital will join religious communities
around the country in hosting an Open House on
Sunday, March 1, 2-4pm, at their Convent in
Chattanooga (425 Glenwood Drive, across the street from
Memorial Hospital). All are invited to visit the sisters at
the Convent and share something of the joy of their
Dominican religious life.

Refleccion Sobre La Palabra Del Senor
Con la ceremonia de la imposición de la
Ceniza, el Miércoles pasado, comenzaba la
Cuaresma, tiempo de preparación para la gran
Solemnidad de la Pascua del Señor, su paso de
la muerte a la vida, anticipo del que esperamos
dar también nosotros. Un tiempo litúrgico
fuerte que recuerda los cuarenta años de
peregrinación del pueblo de Dios por el
desierto hacia la Tierra Prometida; los
cuarenta días de Moisés y Elías previos al
encuentro con Dios; los de Jonás para alcanzar
la penitencia y el perdón; y, sobre todo, los de
Jesús antes del comienzo de su ministerio
público. Un tiempo, pues, de profunda
renovación interior.
La Iglesia hace un llamamiento apremiante a
cada uno de nosotros para que, así como Jesús
se entregó por espacio de cuarenta días a un
ayuno riguroso y rechazó las tentaciones del
enemigo, de igual modo nosotros ayunemos
de toda palabra u obra que no sea grata a Dios,
preparándonos con sinceridad de corazón a las
celebraciones pascuales, preludio de la Pascua
eterna que disfrutaremos un día.
En nuestra vida cristiana no debe extrañarnos
la tendencia a la comodidad egoísta. El Señor
permite la tentación porque, al superarla con
la ayuda de su gracia, ella hace a la persona
más madura, más comprensiva, más realista,
encaminándola así hacia la eternidad. “Dichoso
el varón que soporta la tentación porque,
probado, recibirá la corona de la vida que el
Señor prometió a los que le aman” (Sant. 1,
12).
Cuaresma. Una oportunidad de oro para
practicar por amor a Dios la oración, el ayuno y
la limosna. Oración para conocer y amar cada
día más a Jesucristo. Ayuno, no tanto del
alimento cuanto de todo aquello que sabemos
que desagrada a Dios. Limosna que, por ser un
ejercicio de la virtud de la caridad, permite que
nos acerquemos a la cumbre del vivir cristiano,
porque la plenitud de la Ley de Dios es el
amor.
Cuaresma. Una invitación a una profunda
conversión que se traduzca en una piedad más
sincera y constante, no abandonando la
meditación de la Palabra de Dios, la Sta Misa y
la Comunión con Él por motivos banales.
Conversión que se refleje en un trabajo hecho
de la mejor manera que sepamos y podamos,
con ilusión por la obra bien hecha. Conversión
que nos lleve a afrontar con ánimo deportivo
las contrariedades y roces propios de toda
convivencia, no volcando en los demás el
vinagre del mal humor, del resentimiento.
Conversión que lleve a una guarda decidida de
los sentidos para proteger al corazón de la
basura moral que, a veces, impregna el
ambienta que nos rodea. En pocas palabras: en
un empeño sostenido por apartar de nosotros
pautas de comportamiento que desdicen de la
conducta de un buen cristiano.
Decidámonos a acompañar estos días a Jesús
contemplando su entereza al acercarse el
momento de su Pasión y Muerte, valiéndonos
de ese piadoso y estimulante ejercicio del Via
Crucis, de la consideración de los Misterios de
Dolor del Sto Rosario, o de la lectura atenta de
esas horas de dolor que nos ofrecen los
Evangelistas.
El segundo Encuentro Matrimonial Mundial en
español se realizará el 6 y 7 de junio de 2015 en el
Glenstone Lodge en Gatlinburg, TN. El costo es de $
