ACOUSTIC POSITIONING SYSTEM
USING ADS2 TECHNOLOGY
Nautronix’ NASDrill USBL Acoustic Positioning system has been
developed to meet the increasing positioning demands of the
offshore drilling industry. To satisfy these, Nautronix has applied
its unique Acoustic Digital Spread Spectrum (ADS2) technology
to the acoustic environment. ADS2 acoustic signalling is the key
to the impressive performance provided by the NASDrill USBL
system. More importantly, this performance is achieved using a
225 mm diameter Hydrophone avoiding the need for the large
Gate Valves and expensive hydrophones used by some other
suppliers.
ADS2 technology delivers significant improvements in system
accuracy, noise tolerance and signal integrity. These are
achieved via pulse compression and signal processing gains
associated with ADS2 signalling and result in significantly
improved accuracy and range.

Differential Riser Angle
The system is designed to meet the positioning and differential
angle monitoring requirements for both moored and DP rigs, and
is available in both transponder and pinger operating modes
dependent on customer requirements. An easy upgrade
package is available for the now obsolete RS912 and RS914
systems to NASDrill USBL.
The NASDrill USBL system provides a reliable and robust
system to meet positioning needs to 4,500m range.
