About US Speedskating
From Pond to Podium, we are US Speedskating (USS). We grow and nurture a sport
where all ages can experience the thrill of speed and the camaraderie of the skating
community. USS is responsible for the development of speed skating from grassroots to
the highest elite racing programs. USS is recognized by the United States Olympic
Committee and the International Skating Union as the governing body for the sport of
speed skating in the United States. The Organization has won 86 Olympic medals todate, making it one of the most successful sports in U.S. Olympic history. USS is a
501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Position summary:
The Communications Director will develop and implement a comprehensive, strategic
USS communications plan for membership, sponsors, donors, fans and the media.
The Communications Director will promote awareness of athletes, alumni, the
organization, the sport, major events and partners through media relations, direct
communications, social media and partnerships. The Communications Director will work
with other departments to create and maintain consistent messaging across all
communication platforms within the organization. Oversees the Communications
department Staff.
Through excellent communications and messaging, the Communications Director will be
responsible for overseeing and developing a USS donor program with a goal of
generating annual revenue for USS Programs.
This position is a full time position requiring a minimum of 45+ hours/week. Some travel
during the year may be necessary as are occasional evenings and weekends (for
events). This position works in the USS National Office and Training Center, currently
located at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah. The position supports staff and
athletes for the National Long and Short Track Speed Skating Program and Teams, and
interacts closely with other USS staff and departments in serving the membership of
USS and meeting organizational goals.
Primary focus of position:
• Develop and implement annual and four year communications plan
• Tell USS Story to fans, members, partners, donors
• Oversee deployment of weekly membership newsletter

Develop and implement strategy on reporting of Olympic, World Championships,
World Cup and other elite, domestic event results and stories
Direct the creation of content to contribute to USS Websites and Social Media
outlets
Leverage internal and external resources to secure a visual story of our Sport
Prepare and post press releases and news on relevant media channels
Enhance current digital and social media platforms
Implement revenue generating digital and social media platforms
Develop current database management system for delivery of organizational
messaging
Train and manage Communications Coordinator
Manage revenue generating donor events and programs
Assist in managing events and sponsor fulfillment
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience
• Secondary degree with Communications or Journalism focus preferred
• Strong organizational and problem solving skills
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
• Capability to successfully manage multiple high priority projects at one time
• Social media expertise

• Excellent writing and editing skills
