About:
The 31st International Chili Society Maryland Chili Championship will be held to benefit Living
Classrooms Foundation July 18, 2015 at the Frederick Douglass–Isaac Myers Maritime Park in
Fells Point, Maryland. The Championship will bring together approximately 40 competitive chili
chefs to compete to represent the State of Maryland in the International Chili Societies (ICS)
World Chili Championship held each October. The chefs will compete in up to 3 categories:
Traditional Red Chili, Chili Verde, and Salsa, in a blind judging format. They will also compete
for the much coveted People’s Choice prize and trophy awarded to the chef receiving the most
votes from cookoff attendees.
Founded in 1967, the ICS is the sanctioning organization of nearly 200 chili cookoffs annually
which are only organized to benefit charity. Each year ICS cookoffs raise more than $1,000,000
for local charities. The cookoffs are governed by ICS rules, regulations and blind judging.
These are wonderfully entertaining and fun-filled events that celebrate the excitement of the
championship contests. More than a million spectators a year participate in ICS events by
cooking, tasting, judging and having great fun.
Events and Activities:
The highlight of the day is the ICS Maryland State Chili Championship which offers the public
the opportunity to come taste, vote, and enjoy Traditional Red Chili, Chili Verde, and Salsa
from many of the top chili chefs on the East Coast. Along with chili & music there will be other
food, beverages, beer vendors, local businesses & sponsorship booths. We will also be offering a
Jalapeno Pepper eating contest for those who dare.
This is the 1st Maryland Chili Championship held in Baltimore and we plan to add more
vendors and entertainment in the coming weeks and months.
