COURSE OVERVIEW
This course covers what prolapse is, how to distinguish when
it is problematic, the options for management including which
patients need to be referred, the use of pessaries and follow-up
of patients with pessaries. A hands-on component of the course
provides the opportunity for participants to practice insertions
and removals of pessaries in gynecological models with
volunteer patients.

The intent of the conference is for learners to understand:
• how to check for prolapse and distinguish when it is a problem
in women
• the management options for prolapse and discern which
patients are candidates for pessaries
• the principles of using pessaries, how to follow-up, possible
complications, who to watch closely and Society of Obstetrics
and Gynecology guidelines for pessary use
• in small group (hands-on) sessions, how to follow women
in the community who have pessaries including removal,
insertion and care of complications
