Cheryl Lee’s Family Restaurant
7045 Ridge Road, PR 34668
727-484-6972
My husband Paul and our God Son, James, own Cheryl Lee’s
Family Restaurant. We are located at 7045 Ridge Road in Port Richey,
in the Publix Shopping Center next. We are a new restaurant and
opened in April of this year.
We are family owned and operated and have American homemade comfort food. Anything we can make from scratch we do.
We have a warm, friendly and inviting dining room and we love
to get to know our customers.
My husband and I moved to Pasco County 21 years ago. Our
son went to school in Pasco County and recently graduated from
Pasco Hernando State College.
We joined the Chamber in September 2014 and have enjoyed
it very much! Becoming an Ambassador has helped us grow and
get our restaurant in front of people. I am impressed with the
chamber and their dedication to help the local businesses. We
have made many new contacts and friendships since becoming
involved in the chamber.

Superintendent of Schools:
Office of the
Kurt Browning
Sheriff
What’s In A Name?
As you begin to think about and prepare for work being
performed in and around your home, it is important to hire a contractor who is properly licensed and insured. Hiring an unlicensed
contractor can lead to a myriad of problems, which include poor
quality of work, becoming the victim of a scam or even introducing
a violent criminal into your home. Furthermore, if an unlicensed
contractor does not have workers’ compensation insurance and
he or his employees is injured working on your home, you can be
responsible for paying that person’s medical bills.
Here is a list of tips compiled by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office to
help protect you.
The use of an unlicensed contractor may yield the
following problems:
•Poor qualifications. Unlicensed individuals have not demonstrated the education, insurance, or qualification required of a
licensed contractor. This can leave you with poor quality work or
unfinished projects, which means you could spend more money
hiring another contractor to repair or finish the project.
•Possible criminal background. Unlicensed individuals often
have criminal backgrounds, to include: fraud, theft, violent crimes,
sexual offenses, and substance abuse.
•Likelihood of being the victim of a scam. Unlicensed individuals often disappear after taking your money, leaving you with
very few options to help you get your money back or your work
completed.
•No coverage under homeowner’s policy. Most homeowner
policies require that work must be done by a licensed contractor
and provide no coverage for work that is not.
•Noncompliance with building codes. Most projects, even
small ones, require permits and inspections that unlicensed
contractors ignore or are unfamiliar with. If your project isn’t
permitted or doesn’t comply with the building code, you may
have to remove or repair the work at your own expense and be
subject to fines.
Protecting Yourself – Licensed Contractors:
You can verify a State of Florida Licensed Contractor at www.
MyFloridaLicense.com. Ask your contractor for a license number.
Always verify the license number!
•Tested: Licensed professionals have proven abilities through
testing and certification.
•Trusted: Licensed professionals are required to have proper
insurance and liability coverage that protects you! Ask your
contractor about it!
You can also call the Florida Department of Business and
Professional Regulation to verify a contractor’s license by calling
(866) 532-1440. If you suspect a contractor is unlicensed, call the
Pasco Sheriff’s Office (727-847-5878), or Pasco County Building
Department (727-847-8127) or Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Page 6 • Chamber News
by Kurt S. Browning, Superintendent of Pasco
County Public Schools
At the December 16 Board meeting, the District School Board
of Pasco County voted to rename the Fred K. Marchman Technical Education Center the Pasco Technical College, Marchman
Campus. The name change is effective on January 25, 2015, and
is focused on increasing student access, interest and enrollment in
our instructional programs for both secondary and postsecondary
students. We believe the change assists with recruiting industry
and economic development as well as encouraging students to
choose Pasco County’s public education institutions. Enrolling in
a technical college greatly reduces the debt burden our students
face in today’s educational environment.
The Florida Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government
Accountability (OPPAGA) presented a report to the Florida Legislature on January 8, 2014 related to renaming Florida’s technical
centers to technical colleges. OPPAGA reported that there are
37 states with public sub-baccalaureate technical institutions.
Tennessee and Utah recently changed their entire state system
of technical centers to technical colleges. Both states reported
enrollment increases between 15 percent and 25 percent after
the Marchman’s mission remains the same. The new name more
accurately reflects the post-secondary training provided. This action will not change current governance and operating structures
or require formal legislative approval. The change of Marchman
Technical Education Center to Technical College is authorized
and approved by our accrediting commission, The Council on
Occupational Education (COE). We hope to expand our technical
college offerings in the future.
Finally, using the name “college” bolsters our ability to compete
with private career colleges. Offering our high school graduates
and their parents the public technical option encourages more
Pasco residents to select an affordable, high quality, postsecondary
educational pathway. It increases awareness in the community
about the many high quality educational options available for
adult learners who are seeking educational options available for
adult learners who are seeking career and technical education
programs.
Just checking – I know this is the text you said to add, but it really sounds
confusing and convoluted. Don’t want to change what he sent though.

Utilities Branch
The sixth annual Water Awareness Poster Contest presented by
Pasco County Utilities & FGUA, (Florida Government Utility Authority) has announced the theme for this year’s contest: “Water, Water
Everywhere”. All Pasco County Elementary Schools may participate. For further information, visit [email protected].
Every year the Recycling Department, Parks and Recreation and
some private businesses partner to offer Christmas tree recycling
drop offs to Pasco citizens. The trees are chipped and used in our
parks to mulch trails and planting beds. The drop off runs from
the day after Christmas until the day after the Eucharist in January (December 26, 2014 – January 2015). There are generally 8-10
drop off sites throughout the county. Please check back closer
to Christmas for drop off sites at www.pascocountyutilities.com

January Is Stalking
Awareness Month
This month, the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office
observes National Stalking Awareness Month. Florida defines
stalking as, Any person who willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly
follows, harasses, or cyber stalks another person (Section 784.048,
Florida Statues). Stalkers seek to intimidate their victims through
repeated unwanted contact, including vandalism, surveillance,
harassing phone calls, text messages, or emails. Stalking is more
than a nuisance. It creates an environment of emotional distress
and often escalates to physical harm.
Stalking Facts:
•6.6 million people were stalked in 2009 in the
U.S.

•500 petitions for acts of stalking/cyber stalking
were filed in Pasco County from January 1, 2014
through November 17, 2014.
•1 in 6 women and 1 in 19 men have experienced
stalking victimization at some point during their
lifetime.
National Stalking Awareness Month seeks to bring attention to
this crime through public education. “Recognizing stalking helps
us better protect victims and prevent tragedies,” said Dr. Paula S.
O’Neil, Clerk & Comptroller. We encourage anyone who is in need
of filing a petition for an injunction, also known as a restraining
order, to contact our office.
A petition can be filed by a victim of any act of violence whether
stalking, domestic, repeat, dating, or sexual or has reasonable cause
to believe he or she is in imminent danger of becoming the victim
of any such act of violence. There is no filing fee for these petitions. To become more aware of Domestic Violence services and
procedures, log on to our web site at www.pascoclerk.com, and
select the Courts tab, or you may also speak with a Deputy Clerk
about protective injunctions by calling (727) 847-2411 Ext. 2211
