*HYMN #73 (vs. 1&2)
“O Worship the King”
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
You challenge us to use our faithful authority, O God:
authority not reliant on the fixed pattern of the years, but on the
gentle, flexible, affirming approach.
You inspire us to use our faithful authority, O God:
authority born of wise insight, careful study, and skillful
practice.
You are with us as we use our faithful authority, O God:
authority rooted in Hebrew and Christian scripture, the prayerbased way of Jesus.
You support us as we use our faithful authority, O God:
authority which runs counter to the powerful and fear-making
forces, authority that will not leave the oppressed to suffer.
Time of reflection…
WORDS OF ASSURANCE
You know, O God, those times when we impose our opinions and our
ways on others and you call us to change.
We will put our rigid and selfish ways behind us;
we will listen to the needs and dreams of those around us;
we will search out Christ’s compassionate and just way, for our
faith community.
As you let go your self-serving attitudes and practices, you will
experience peace and fulfillment.
We will! Thanks be to God. Amen.

These gifts enable your faith community to sharpen its senses,
God.
We will be enabled to see those who struggle;
we will be ready to minister to those who have suffered loss;
we will hear those who cry out because they are depressed;
we will be inspired to help those who don’t have enough food
or who live in squalor;
we will gather the downtrodden together to work for the
common good.
You bless us and you bless our gifts, as our awareness grows. We
are a grace-filled people. Amen.
Amen.

JESSE LEE AS A PRAYING CHURCH Part Deux
We have begun the “Praying Church” program again. As
you come to worship each person is encouraged to take a
prayer out of a prayer basket and leave a prayer as they
enter the sanctuary. May we continue to be the praying
church that seeks to do God’s ministry.
Welcome to Jesse Lee Church: Find hope, joy, peace and the love
of God here. Please join us after worship for fellowship in Bennett
Hall.

Jesse Lee Church is the direct descendent of the oldest continuously
operating Methodist Society of New England. Our church traces its
origin to 1789 when Jesse Lee, A Methodist Circuit Rider (traveling
preacher), was appointed to spread the Word of God to New
England. The congregation has met in this warm colonial sanctuary
since 1813.
The United Methodist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination
of 10 million members in the USA and around the world. It is
affiliated with Methodist Churches in 87 countries in the world. We
confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the historic Christian
faith.
Our Vision
Jesse Lee United Methodist Church seeks to be a compassionate
congregation whose members, through word and deed, live the Great
Commandment of Jesus Christ to “Love the Lord your God with all
your heart, soul, mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself.”
