BASD E-News from Dr. Roy - Bethlehem Area School District

BASD E-News from Dr. Roy
January 30, 2015
If you have news or upcoming events you would like to share with the staff in the BASD E-News, please e-mail my administrative
assistant, Barbara Clymer at [email protected].
Full-Day Kindergarten
The BASD Board of School Directors approved the implementation of universal full
day kindergarten starting in the fall of 2015-2016. We are proud and excited to launch
this major step forward in our primary education program. Approximately 900
kindergarten students will now experience the equivalent of 90 additional days of
school as we move from less than three hours a day of kindergarten to a full school
day. Full day kindergarten will better prepare our students to be reading at or above
grade level by the end of 3rd grade - a key indicator of future success in school. I am
thrilled that our kindergarten students will now have twice as much time with our
outstanding BASD kindergarten teachers. An article regarding the approval can be
found at

Agreement Reached with the Bethlehem Education Association and Board of School
Directors
I want to personally thank our Board of School Directors and the Bethlehem Education
Association for the professional and collaborative problem solving approach that led
to a fair contract that recognizes the financial challenges public school districts
currently face. I am proud of our teachers and our school board for their vision and
their commitment to our students and community. Read more about the agreement at
