From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
This past week has kept me busy with travel to
the east side of the diocese with Bishop Cantú.
United In Ministry gatherings in Carlsbad, Hobbs,
Roswell, and Ruidoso were enjoyable as I met new
people each night and greeted many others I have
known over the years. Bishop and I also enjoyed
celebrating Mass for the children in the three Catholic schools in Carlsbad, Hobbs, and Roswell.
I am the chaplain for the Las Cruces Catholic
School and go there regularly to visit and celebrate
Mass with the youth so it is great to be able to see
the bigger picture of Catholic education in our diocese by visiting all these other schools. I also joined the diocesan staff during the day as
we met with parish employees to offer important
information. I shared in the meetings by offering
information about annulments. The time away was
well worth it but it is good to be back in my own
bed. Today we begin the UIM pledges and I look forward to helping our parish do its part in this important endeavor. Through our UIM giving, we
help the retired priests like Msgr. Getz and we educate seminarians to the priesthood like was done
with Fr. Kevin McDonald and yours truly. We also help our own parish with the rebate monies.
United In Ministry does a lot more as you see in
the special Agua Viva edition. Thanks for your
support.
Finally, the Gospel both teaches and reminds us
that there is much more for us who believe in
Christ than what this world alone offers. The
world is filled with wonderful blessings but it also
contains sin and misery. Jesus tells us that something incredible awaits us after this world. The
way we get there is to learn His ways and follow
Him there. God bless you, Fr. Richard
Sacrament of Baptism
Worshipping with us at Mass is a time to spiritually prepare
both you and your family for the Sacrament of Baptism.
Baptism preparation requires at least 3 months.
Parents who are registered in the parish desiring and planning
baptism for their child are to come by the office to register for
baptism classes, and to make an appointment with the pastor to
begin baptism preparation. Only after this initial meeting
with the pastor may a tentative baptism date be set.
Pre-baptism classes are required for both parents and Godparents. Godparents must have received the sacrament of Confirmation and, if married, married in the Roman Catholic Church
and be receiving Holy Communion regularly. Only one Godparent is necessary. If two (2), then male and female are
required. Please come by the office to register for baptism
classes. Two consecutive classes are required.
