Commack Coalition of Caring & Suffolk County Police department, 4th Precinct Present “The Ugly Truth” Commack High School February 3, 201 5 7: 00 p. m. Although we have all read the headlines and heard about heroin in our neighborhoods and the easy access to powerful prescription medication, we rarely hear The Ugly Truth behind these headlines. Come spend the evening hearing from families who have lived this life, law enforcement and medical personnel who see the consequences of drug abuse and treatment professionals trying to help those impacted by addictions. WELCOME REMARKS Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone SPECIAL GUEST Suffolk County Deputy Police Commissioner Risco Mention- Lewis SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER Dr. Andrew Kolodny, Chief Medical Officer, Phoenix House Nationally recognized psychiatrist, public health advocate and expert in the opioid addiction epidemic, Dr. Kolodny has spent his career treating and advocating for those impacted by addiction. He is also the Director of PROP: Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing. Other Distinguished Speakers Include: • A mother and son who have lived the nightmare of addictions • A police officer involved in community and prevention programs • A medical examiner responsible for exams of individuals who have overdosed • An expert in insurance coverage for substance abuse treatment Representatives from various substance abuse treatment agencies and youth agencies will be available to provide information to families.
