My brothers and sisters in Christ,
I mentioned last Sunday that we are celebrating a wedding
and anniversary celebration on February 14, 2015. We are
calling it THE WEDDING AT CANA– 2015. This
celebration is being organized especially for couples who
have been together but have never had their marriage blessed
in the Church. Jesus was invited to a wedding at Cana. And
he accepted the invitation. And because he was there the
wedding (and hopefully the rest of that couple’s married
days) was made better. Remember what happened at the
wedding. The wine ran out. That’s what can happen in any
of our lives, whether we are married, ordained and
consecrated or single. But with Jesus, more wine not only
arrived...but the wine was better. Are you in a relationship
with someone but have never come to the Church to have
your marriage blessed? Do you know some people who are
together but have not yet been married. Were you married by
a Justice of the Peace but not in Church? Sometimes people
need help with the annulment process. Sometimes people
have ideas on who and who cannot get married in the
Church that are not correct. Often times people think a
wedding has to be huge and expensive. This can be a turn off
for some. THE WEDDING AT CANA-2015 is taking place
to help men and women through the process and take away
as many obstacles to having a wedding in Church. There will
be an informational meeting for any couples on Sunday,
November 16 at 1:00 p.m. (Spanish) and Wednesday,
November 19 at 7:00 p.m. (English). Please spread the word
and contact any of the priests or Deacon if you have any
questions.

WEDDING AT CANA – ANNIVERSARIES
On this same evening, we are inviting any couple to renew
their wedding vows and acknowledge their wedding
anniversaries. The ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. on
Saturday February 14, 2015. It does not matter whether you
have been married for 50 or 29 or 7 or 1 year. Couples who
are interested need to register so we can make the necessary
arrangements and include your names in the program.
BALLOT QUESTIONS 3 AND 4
The Bishops of Massachusetts have released statements
about two questions on the ballot on November 4:
Question 3, if passed, would repeal the existing law that
established casino gambling and outlaw casino gambling in
the Commonwealth. The Bishops have urged a “Yes” vote
on Question 3. The Bishops have spoken about the harmful
effects of casino gambling in their statement.
Question 4, if passed would mandate up to one week of
earned paid sick time for most Massachusetts workers. It
would allow workers in Massachusetts to earn one hour of
sick time for every 30 hours worked. The Bishops have
urged a “Yes” vote on Question 4.

NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH OF THE DEAD
During November, the Church calls us to remember the
dead. As the days shorten and the ground hardens we are
reminded to pray for those who have passed from this life to
the next. We pray for their souls asking the Lord to have
mercy on them for their sins. We ask the Lord to remember
the good that was done through their lives. We remember the
dead by listing their names in the Book of the Dead placed
near the baptismal font. Our hope for their eternal salvation
isn’t just consolation. It is based on the fact that God offered
them eternal life through baptism. We remember our
beloved dead by visiting the cemeteries and graves. Many of
you do this on your own. We invite all parishioners to do
this together if you are able. Please see the dates and times
below. We also remember to pray at the cemeteries for all of
the dead who have nobody praying for them. Eternal rest
come unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon
them. May they Rest in Peace. May their souls and all the
souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace.
NOVEMBER 1 IS ALL SAINTS DAY
The great feast of All Saints Day is Saturday, November 1. It
is not a holy day of obligation this year because it falls on a
Saturday. The US Bishops made that decision. We invite
everyone to a Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s on this day.
CEMETERY VISITS ON ALL SOULS’ DAY
Please consider joining us to visit the cemeteries. We gather
in a central location to pray for all the dead buried in that
cemetery. Then we make our way as much as possible to the
specific graves connected with those people who are present
that day. We sprinkle the specific graves with holy water,
say a brief prayer for the dead buried in that grave, and then
move on to the next location. Many parishioners are helped
by these visits. It can be hard for some to visit the cemetery
on their own. The visiting schedule is as follows:
CALVARY CEMETERY - Sunday, Nov. 2 at 11:30 a.m..
We will meet at the Crucifix after the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
MOUNT FEAKE - Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. We will
meet at the flagpole at 1:00 p.m.
PRAYING IN LUGANDA AT CEMETERY
Fr David will be available to visit cemeteries and pray for
your deceased in Luganda on November 7. Please arrange
the specific times for the visits to cemeteries with him. Mass
at 8:00 p.m. will be offered for the souls of your loved ones.
THE BOOK OF THE DEAD
We invite everyone to record the names of the deceased in
the Book of the Dead placed near the baptismal font. We
will pray for those listed in the Book throughout the month
of November.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
This week we offer Masses with the anointing of the sick.
They are scheduled for this Monday, November 3 at 12:10
p.m., Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel,
and Friday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel. Anyone
in need of physical healing is encouraged to come forward
for the anointing. Anyone who is physically healthy is
encouraged to come and pray for the sick.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER AT 7:30 AM
Christians throughout the world begin every day praising
God for life and blessings. We invite you to join us on
Sundays for this brief communal prayer of Psalms, Readings
and Hymns. It takes about 15 minutes. You don’t need to
bring anything. You don’t have to be familiar with the
format. You don’t have to be Catholic. The Morning Prayer
begins at 7:30 a.m. in the church. Please know that you are
welcome and that people are praying for you at this time.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus are Catholic men 18 years old or
older who devote themselves to the project of making better
their families and communities, while they support the
Church and receive the support of the Church. To be a
Knight of Columbus is to belong to a fraternity that enriches
itself through the sharing of the faith in order to protect and
improve the family life. You will receive a special invitation
to know this international organization at Saint Mary’s in
Waltham. If you have not received this invitation, contact
the priests and deacon of the Parish, who will give you more
information. Please attend the meeting on Sunday,
November 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Saint Mary’s lower hall to
learn about the advantages of being a member.
PROJECT RACHEL
If you or someone you know is suffering from the pain of a
past abortion, the Project Rachel ministry of the Archdiocese
of Boston will offer a one-day retreat for women on
Saturday, November 15 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at a

VOTING SEASON WATERTOWN SAVINGS BANK
The voting for the Watertown Saving Bank Customer
Choice Awards has begun. We ask anyone who has a bank
account with WSB to vote for the Saint Mary’s After School
program. Last year we received $1,823 to support our
program. You can vote online or by dropping a paper ballot
in the box at a local branch the next time you stop in the
bank. Thanks for your consideration.
DONATION – EXERCISE BIKE
You may have an exercise bike taking up space in your
basement or attic. We are looking for a used exercise bike
that is in good condition. If you have one that you would like
to donate to the priests please contact the parish office.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
We encourage everyone to continue reading the Acts of the
Apostles this week …
ACTS OF THE APOSTLES – CHAPTER 17 PART 1
Paul in Thessalonica. When they took the road through
Amphipolis and Apollonia, they reached Thessalonica,
where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Following his
usual custom, Paul joined them, and for three sabbaths he
entered into discussions with them from the scriptures,
expounding and demonstrating that the Messiah had to
suffer and rise from the dead, and that “This is the Messiah,
Jesus, whom I proclaim to you.” Some of them were
convinced and joined Paul and Silas; so, too, a great number
of Greeks who were worshipers, and not a few of the
prominent women. But the Jews became jealous and
recruited some worthless men loitering in the public square,
formed a mob, and set the city in turmoil. They marched on
the house of Jason, intending to bring them before the
people’s assembly. When they could not find them, they
dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city
magistrates, shouting, “These people who have been creating
a disturbance all over the world have now come here, and
Jason has welcomed them. They all act in opposition to the
decrees of Caesar and claim instead that there is another
king, Jesus.” They stirred up the crowd and the city
magistrates who, upon hearing these charges, took a surety
payment from Jason and the others before releasing them.
SAINT CHARLES FEAST DAY CELEBRATION
We invite you to join the parishioners of Saint Charles on
November 4, the feast day of their patron. We will honor St.
Charles Borromeo and ask for his intercession on this day
with a Mass at 6:00 p.m. Following the Mass, we will gather
in the parish hall at St. Charles for a reception and
discussion about “What’s happening on the South Side of
Waltham”. Presenters will be Mayor Jeanette McCarthy and
Ward Councilor Robert Logan. We hope you can attend this
evening where we pray and work for the good of the parish.
Invite your friends and neighbors! We encourage people to
bring baked goods for the reception.
CRITICAL FOOD SHORTAGE
Our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry is in desperate need of
donations of non-perishable food items, particularly canned
goods. Your donations enable us to provide those in need
with a bag of these items to supplement the food vouchers
we also provide. Please leave your donations at the back of
the church.
WINTER COAT DRIVE
Please bring your gently used, but clean, winter coats for
women, men and children to church during October. Please
leave them in the back of the church where members of the
St Vincent de Paul Society will pick them up for distribution
in November to those in need.
ATTACKS ON GOD
Boko Haram abducts more Christian girls
The Islamist terrorist organization Boko Haram has
kidnapped another 60 girls and young women from Christian
villages in northeastern Nigeria. The kidnappings occurred
just hours after the government of Nigeria had announced a
tentative agreement with Boko Haram that supposedly
would have ended the terrorist groups' raids. In April, Boko
Haram abducted over 200 girls from a Nigerian school. They
have not been released.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT THE CREED
Last year we began including questions and answers about
each line of the Creed to remind us what we mean when we
profess our faith. We will continue to do so until we reach
the end of the prayer. From the Compendium of the
Catechism of the Catholic Church…
• What is the hope of the new heavens and the new
earth?
After the final judgment the universe itself, freed from its
bondage to decay, will share in the glory of Christ with the
beginning of “the new heavens” and a “new earth” (2 Peter
3:13). Thus, the fullness of the Kingdom of God will come
about, that is to say, the definitive realization of the salvific
plan of God to “unite all things in Christ, things in heaven
and things on earth” (Ephesians 1:10). God will then be “all
in all” (1 Corinthians 15:28) in eternal life.
ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Many adults have not completed their initiation as Catholics.
There are also many Christians baptized in another
denomination who wish to inquire about Catholicism or
enter into communion and become Catholics. (Protestants
who become Catholics don’t convert. They are already
Christians). We are beginning classes in October to help and
accompany adults who wish to begin this process. If you or
someone you know wants to join us in October, please call
the parish office or speak to one of the priests. If you know
an adult or child who was never baptized and wants to learn
about Christ and/or become a Christian, please speak to one
of the priests as this process is slightly different from
Confirmation classes.
STUDY OF ST. MARK’S GOSPEL
Fr. Tim Murphy is leading a study of the Gospel of St. Mark
on six Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:00 p.m. This began on
Sunday, October 26. We use A Catholic Commentary on
Sacred Scripture: The Gospel of Mark by Mary Healy. All
meetings take place in the St. Mary’s Religious Education
building on the first floor. The text costs $15 and is a
valuable reference to you in praying and reflecting on this
gospel. Beginning on the first Sunday of Advent we will be
reading St. Mark’s Gospel every Sunday at Mass. Please
contact the rectory if you would like to join us and we will
get you a copy of the text.

Mis hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
El domingo pasado les mencione que tendremos una
celebración de bodas y aniversarios el 14 de febrero del
2015. La nombramos LAS BODAS DE CANA– 2015. Esta
celebración esta siendo organizada especialmente para las
parejas que han estado juntas pero que nunca han recibido la
bendición de su matrimonio en la iglesia. Jesús fue invitado a
una boda en Cana. El acepto la invitación. Y por que el
estuvo ahí, la boda (y esperemos que también el resto de los
días de la pareja) fue mejor. Recuerda que paso en la boda.
El vino se acabo. Eso es lo que puede suceder en cualquiera
de nuestras vidas, en cualquiera que sea nuestro estado:
casados, ordenados, consagrados a la vida religiosa o
solteros. Pero con Jesús, no solo llego mas vino….si no el
mejor vino. ¿Estas en una relación con alguien pero nunca
han venido a la iglesia a recibir la bendición en su
matrimonio? ¿Conoces a parejas que viven juntas pero que
aun no se han casado? ¿Te casaste por el Civil pero no por la
Iglesia? A veces algunas personas necesitan ayuda con un
proceso de anulación. Algunas personas tienen ideas
equivocadas sobre quien o quien no puede casarse por la
iglesia. Muchas veces la gente piensa que una boda tiene que
ser grande y costosa. Esto puede desalentar a cualquiera.
LAS BODAS DE CANA– 2015 estar á llevándose a cabo
para ayudar a hombres y mujeres con el proceso y quitar
obstáculos para así tener una boda por la iglesia. Habrá una
junta informativa para las parejas el domingo 16 de
noviembre a la 1:00 p.m. en Español y el miércoles 19 de
noviembre a as 7:00 p.m. en Ingles. Por favor pasa la voz y
comuníquese con cualquiera de los sacerdotes o el diacono si
tiene alguna pregunta.

LAS BODAS DE CANA - ANIVERSARIO DE BODAS
Esta misma tarde, estamos invitando a las parejas casadas a
renovar su votos matrimoniales y celebrar su aniversario de
bodas. La ceremonia será a las 5:30 p.m. el sábado 14 de
febrero del 2015. No importa si han estado casados por 50,
29, 7 o 1 año. Las parejas que estén interesadas necesitan
registrarse para hacer los arreglos necesarios e incluir sus
nombres en el programa. ¡Invitados!
VISITAS AL CEMENTERIO - 2 de NOVIEMBRE
Por favor considere unirse a nosotros para visitar los
cementerios. Nos reunimos en un lugar central para orar por
los difuntos que descansan en el cementerio. Después vamos
de tumba en tumba de los familiares presentes ese día.
Rociamos la tumba con agua bendita, hacemos una breve
oración por el difunto y continuamos con el siguiente. El
horario es como sigue:
CEMENTERIO DE CALVARY - Nos reuniremos enfrente del
crucifijo a las 11:30 a.m. después de la misa de las 10:00 a.m
CEMENTERIO MOUNT FEAKE - Nos reuniremos en el asta
de la bandera a la 1:00 p.m.

DIA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS –1ro. de NOVIEMBRE
La fiesta de Todos los Santos es el 1ro de Noviembre. Este
año no se considera día de obligación por que cae en sábado,
(esta decisión fue tomada por los Obispos de Estados
Unidos). Invitamos a todos a la misa de las 9:00 a.m. que
tendremos este día aquí en Santa María.
NOVIEMBRE MES DE LOS DIFUNTOS
Durante el mes de noviembre la iglesia nos llama a recordar
a nuestros difuntos y orar por aquellos que ya pasaron de
esta vida a la otra. Oramos por sus almas y pedimos a Dios
que tenga misericordia de ellos y perdone sus pecados.
Pedimos a Dios que recuerde sus buenas obras. Invitamos a
todos a que escriban los nombres de sus difuntos en el Libro
de los Difuntos que se encuentra cerca de la pila bautismal.
Oraremos por ellos durante todo el mes de noviembre.
UNCION A LOS ENFERMOS
Esta semana tendremos misas con unción de los enfermos:
Lunes 3 de noviembre a las 12:10 p.m;
Miércoles 4 de noviembre a las 7:00 p.m. en la capilla;
Viernes 7 de noviembre a las 8:00 p.m. en la capilla.
Las personas que necesitan sanación física están invitadas a
venir y las que están sanas se les invita a venir también y
orar por los que están enfermos.
