SUNDAY SCRIPTURE:
Our Gospel reading is
Mark 1: 21-28.
Key Passage: The people
were astounded at his
teaching, for he taught
them as one having
authority and not as the
scribes. Adult: What
can you tell others
about Jesus with the
most assurance?
Child: What is the
most important thing
you would like others
to know about Jesus?
How could you show
or tell them?
LITURGY SURVEY
Thank you for your participation in our recent Liturgy
Survey. We received 310 responses from parishioners.
The results will be shared with priests, deacon, director of
music, the Liturgy Committee and our Pastoral Council.
Information concerning the results and recommendations
from this survey will be shared in weekly segments
through the Sunday bulletin. Overall, the feedback is very
positive. For example, 94.2% of respondents indicated
that their experience of prayer at weekend Masses is
“fulfilling” or “sometimes fulfilling.” Only 5.8% responded
“sometimes unfulfilling” or “unfulfilling.” We have a strong
foundation to proceed with further refinements and efforts
to enhance our church, music and ministries. We should
not lose sight that our efforts are not the focus but God’s
gifts of His Word and Eucharist to grace our lives with His
Divine Presence.
BLESSING OF CANDLES
The blessing of candles used at church
during the year occurs on the Feast of the
Presentation of the Lord. This Feast Day
will be celebrated on Monday, February
2. Candles will be blessed at daily Mass.
If you would like to have candles blessed,
please bring them to the chapel for the
blessing during the 7:30am Mass in the
chapel.
FEAST OF SAINT BLAISE
The blessing of throats for the Feast Day of Saint Blaise
will be during daily Mass on Tuesday, February 3, at
7:30am. On this feast, two candles are blessed, held
slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the
blessing is said. Saint Blaise's protection of those with
throat troubles comes from a legend that a boy with a
fishbone stuck in his throat was brought to him. The boy
was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him.
ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES
Mass will be celebrated on Ash Wednesday, February
18, at 9:00am, 4:30pm and 7:00pm in the church. Ashes
are distributed during the liturgy only.
PROPERTY EVALUATION AND PLANNING
Aside from the financial and
usage information we already
shared with you, there are
other factors that we must take
into consideration as we make
decisions about the future of
our parish buildings.
Deterioration of Buildings
As we’ve explained previously, we do not have the
money to make the necessary capital improvements to all
of our properties. The longer we go without making
them, the more the buildings will deteriorate. As the
buildings deteriorate, so does their value. That loss of
value impacts our ability to sell a building and at what
price.
Deteriorating buildings also increase our maintenance
and repair expenses. Should we need to shift funds from
our parish operating budget to building
repairs/improvements, we could have to reduce
programs, ministries and/or staff.
Revenue Generation
In the case of Immaculate Conception, revenue from the
Delco Intermediate Unit lease covers almost all of the
expenses of both the church and school. There is a very
large gap between the revenue earned at Holy Saviour
and the expenses the HS buildings generate.
Land Tracts
Three deeded tracts comprise Holy Saviour’s property.
The buildings of Holy Saviour overlap the tract
boundaries. The church is located on one tract, but the
rectory and gym are also partially located on this tract.
This complicates and could delay any possible sale of the
Holy Saviour rectory, convent or school as the church
would need to be established as a separate subdivision.
Next week: Values driving our decisions
LENTEN STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross will be held in the church on all
Fridays of Lent at 7:00pm beginning February 20.
SJF NEW ARRIVALS
The people of Saint John
Fisher rejoice with the
families of our newest
baptized members.
ANNA ELISE
STEINMACHER and
EMMETT COLE
SPICHER were baptized

bless Anna, Emmett and their parents.
RCIA RITE OF SENDING
The Rite of Sending for our RCIA catechumens and
candidates will take place on Sunday, February 15, at the
9:30am Mass. Our RCIA catechumens and candidates will
be received by Archbishop Charles Chaput on February 21
at 2:30pm at the Cathedral for the Rite of Election.
