105 years of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism to our community!

Vivat Jesus, brothers.
My friends and fellow knights, during the last 5 years since
my ordination, I have accompanied many families as they
faced both triumph and tragedy. My prayer list for those
facing life-threatening illnesses is lengthy, and many of
you are there by request and because I have promised to
pray for you. None of us know what God’s plan is for us.
I sincerely pray for peace and acceptance, for the miracle
of modern medicine, for hope and faith, and above all,
that in all things God’s will is done.
Now I find myself in the company of those for whom life
has become just a little bit uncertain because of illness. I
learned just before Christmas that I have a form of cancer
known as mesothelioma. It is a particularly unpleasant
prognosis, and yet I enter this part of my life journey with
the joy of Christmas still in my heart. I don't know how
much will have changed between the time I write this and
the time you will have read it, but one thing is rock-solid
sure; my faith in God's benevolent grace for you and for
me.
I ask for your prayers for me, for my wife Claire and our
three children, and for all those facing their own
challenges, those known to us and those known only to
God. I will continue to pray for you as I always have, may
God’s peace be with you.
Deacon Jeremy Tyrrell

Thanks to KADEC for supplying our Christmas party
again this year.
Thanks to the three past grand knights who
delivered flowers and visited with our shut in
members at Christmas. They were Yvan Gauvin-Bert
Decaire- and Roy Renaud.
Over the holidays we had 2 members pass away.
Brothers Ernie Walker and Peter Black. Peggy Roy
,wife of deceased member Fern Roy. The father of
our State Deputy also passed. Prayers and
sympathies to all families.
We are trying a new system. We want to notify
the members by e-mail of upcoming events. In
order for this to work we need your info. If you
want to be included, contact me at 519-254-8431.
Here it is. I did not forget. We need new members.
As stated above 2 died and 1 resigned. Lost 3.
Added one. Peter Black.s grandson. Not a winning
situation.
The State convention is in April. If any member
would like to represent our council, contact me .
Please continue to support the fish fry's
Council elections will soon be upon us. Think
about running.

Deputy G. K. Notes:
From the Chancellor:
DGK Michael Harrigan
Chancellor Bob Burns PGK
Brothers:
Brothers and Others:
We closed out 2014 with our annual
Christmas dinner and awards presentations. My
congratulations go out to our Brother Knights who
have achieved Life and Honorary Life status. Thank
you for your years of service to Council 1453.
Dinner was great and it was good to hear a report
from Sr. Linda Dube on the success of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Home. For those who missed the event
we have donated the proceeds from the last two
Rose Sundays to Sr. Linda and she is putting the
money to good use helping young single mothers to
be able to keep their babies and continue with their
education.
Welcome to 2015, I hope your winter break
was happy and joyful. It is now time to work on our
Council again, and to participate.
Now here we are starting a new year and a
world of promise lies before us. Hopefully as a
Council we will make the best of every opportunity
that comes our way. That includes taking every
chance that presents itself to ask someone to join
our Council. It also provides us with new chances to
partake in Council activities. We try to offer
something for everyone from golf and bowling to
fish fries.
As always please read the Knight Life to
keep up with all Council activities or visit our web
site at http://www.kofcwindsor1453.com/
And again as always our meetings are the third
Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. at the Cardinal A.
Stepinac Council on Walker Road.
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all
my brother Knights and their families all the very
best for 2015.
May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that
grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go. Irish Blessing
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak
kindly. Leave the rest to God.
DGK Michael
These past two months brought some hope to
our Council with the exemplification of the 1st and
2nd degree of the Order by a third generation of the
Blak family. our newest member Peter.
This joy was short lived, soon followed by
the passing of two of our formerly active and
involved and productive long-time members,
Brothers Ernie Walker and Peter Blak. Both made
this Council history and its success possible.
Supreme and State executives have made
membership recruitment a big and top priority issue.
In March each Council is expected to do parish
recruitment drives in each of their parishes. I hope to
comply with this. If the parishes will allow and the
executive agree, we can hold some and maybe even a
few members will give us a hand.
With our 105th anniversary this month, we
celebrate our long and fruitful history, we can be
proud of our past achievements. Is there a future for
this historic Council? Unless we can recruit new
members our future isn’t very long. I have said
before, and I repeat, unless we as a Council act and
promote functions to attract the younger generation
we will continue to stagnate. We MUST start being
involved as we were many years ago. We have to
give people a reason to join, a purpose to be involved
in. Our insurance plans are the best, and Supreme
and State promote interesting and exciting events, as
well as our charity works. Again we have to involve
ourselves with these activities, show our interest for
family and youth and Church. Something to think
about.
Thanks, God Bless, Vivat Jesus

LIFE MATTERS…
Andrew J. Despins, Field Agent
RRSPs
We don't have to tell you why it's smart to own a Registered Retirement Savings Plan. Studies indicate that in
order to retire and maintain your Standard of Living you will require approximately 70% of your present income.
The Knights of Columbus offers an R.R.S.P. with a difference. It is truly an "Interest Sensitive" plan,
competitive with any R.R.S.P. available, but it also offers a number of additional benefits:
Each year you will receive a fully detailed statement which tells you everything you want to know about
your investments. At retirement it can automatically convert to a lifetime pension at no extra cost. In addition
to everything else there is the added convenience of dealing with a knowledgeable Field Agent, such as
myself, who can provide guidance and honest advice at a time and place convenient to you.
So this year, no need to stand in long line-ups waiting to talk to someone who may not have the
knowledge, the expertise or the time to answer all of your important questions. Is the money locked up? If so,
for how long? What happens if I die? Does the plan allow for rising interest rates?, etc….
This year, let me pay you a visit and provide you with all the facts you need to know to make an informed
decision.
REMEMBER, WE OFFER VERY COMPETITIVE RATES AND QUALITY, AT HOME SERVICE, PLUS:
-NO SET-UP OR ADMINISTRATION FEES
-YOUR FUNDS ARE NEVER LOCKED IN
-TRANSFERS ARE AVAILABLE
-FREE CONSULTATION WITH NO OBLIGATION
-INSTANT RECEIPTS!
-INDUSTRY LEADING PAYOUT BENEFITS
Unlike Banks and Trust Companies R.R.S.P.'s, Knights of Columbus is completely creditor proof...a very
important feature in your long range planning. Find out more, call me today. The deadline for contributing for
the 2014 tax year is March 1, 2015.
Don’t wait…contact me today.

ARE YOU FEEDING YOUR FLOCK?
When we look at the good shepherd, we
promptly realize that he takes cares of his flock. He
ensures it is well fed and nurtured so that the sheep
will grow to be healthy strong and vibrant. We all
know that all living things grow; you don’t have to
make them grow. It is just natural if they are healthy.
We don’t have to command our children to grow
either. As long as they have good nutrition and a safe
environment, their growth is natural; for if they do
not grow, something has gone terribly wrong. Lack of
growth usually indicates an unhealthy situation, poor
nutrition or a lack of nurturing. Our councils are
exactly the same; therefore, it is natural for them to
grow if they are healthy.
Thus the real task for our councils’ leadership
is to nurture, feed, and remove growth-restricting
barriers so that natural, normal progress can occur
and we can watch them grow. If this is done, our
councils will experience a spontaneous expansion.
Healthy councils will automatically bring in
membership.
Here are a few questions we need to ask
ourselves and our councils’ family members:
Are we an organization that attracts new
members through our programs or activities in
which our members and community want to be
involved?
Are our goals and directions clear? Is there
reason for existing members to stay active and are
there obvious reasons for new members to get
involved?
Are we offering the men and their families in
our community something they cannot get anywhere
else?
Is our council family as healthy as it needs to
be so that its fellowship creates a warmer
atmosphere?
We need to welcome and introduce ourselves
to our new members and make them feel a part of the
inner group of existing members. We need to
introduce ourselves and our uniqueness as a council
to the men and families within our parish and
community.
Is our council family as healthy as it needs to
be so that it flourishes through our Service?
We need to increase our opportunities to
provide service to our Church, community and
families.
Life
February - March ‘15
Is our council family as healthy as it needs
to be so that it grows stronger Spiritually?
We need to pray together as often as we can.
We need to celebrate Mass together and proclaim
our devotion to Mary, more often, as we promised
we would in our first degree.
Is our council family as healthy as it needs
to be so that it grows broader and more diverse?
We need to welcome new families into our
ranks with different experiences, likes, dislikes and
ideas.
Is our council family as healthy as it needs
to be so that it grows larger through the leaders
and chairmen that it produces?
We need to expand the wonderful leadership
and capable chairmanship for which our councils
were once known.
Answers to these very important questions
may shed light on how we might focus our efforts to
renew the very life and spirit of our Council
Membership. Maybe this different approach to
direct hard core recruitment can change how men in
our parishes see us as Knights.
I believe that this type of positive change
will attract new men to ask: “How do I join the
Knights?”
To you Worthy Sirs, I ask your consideration
to adopt this idea of internal change. I encourage
you to discuss it with your officers and to be the
main catalyst to spark these changes in your Council
Membership. Know that it is within your power to
lead and change the health of your beloved council,
so that it is free to spontaneously grow and to
expand the reach of the service that is so desperately
needed in any parish and in Ontario.
Please remember that “We are all called to
be good shepherds!” Are You Feeding Your Flock?
