Senior Scholarship: TDHS Renaissance Foundation Scholarship is offering scholarships to senior students who plan to attend a 2yr college
or 4yr university. You must show evidence of involvement in school activities and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or weighted
GPA of 3.5. An application is available in either the Career Center or Student Center. Renaissance committee members will pick up all
submitted applications in the Student Center on Monday, March 2nd .
English/Math placement test for CSU: Seniors, If you plan to attend a CSU, you must take an English and/or Math placement test unless
you’re exempt from taking it. To learn about your exemption status, go to Downey’s College/Career webpage and look under the heading
“testing”.
Financial aid filing period for FAFSA is open. If you haven’t already done so, you and your parent need to register for your PIN now at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Ask your parents to gather tax information so you can get ready to file your FAFSA! See video link called "Help filling
out your FAFSA" on Downey’s College/Career webpage for assistance. Deadline to file is March 2, 2015. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
FINANCIAL AID Reminder: SENIORS, it is your responsibility to check your PowerSchool account to make sure your legal name,
address, birth date and other personal information is correct. If you discover an error, please notify the counseling office before submitting
your FAFSA, otherwise the state will reject your FAFSA submission and you risk NOT qualifying for Financial Aid or Cal Grants.
Senior Trip – Attention Seniors!!!! There are only 5 seats available for the Senior Trip. If you want to experience a day and night of absolute
amazement, excitement and an overall glorious life changing trip then get your permission slip and payment in ASAP to the Student Center!!!
*ATTENTION ALL 10th , 11th and 12 Grade Students: The sign-up sheet is now available for the Spring ASVAB Test. The test will be
given on Thursday, March 26th at 7:55 AM in Room 1. Sign up now to reserve your spot. There is no fee for the test!
*Anime Club will meet in room 95 at 2:05 on Friday. Come hear about plans for our upcoming field trip to San Francisco!
*Valentines Day Grams –Valentine’s Grams are here!!! Buy them Thursday, Friday and next week for $1!!! They will be delivered to your
7th period class on Friday February 13th.
*Library Club will be watching Maze Runner at 2:30 on Friday, Feb. 6 in the Library Reference Room. We’ll have the popcorn. Bring
snacks and/or drinks if you’d like. This event is restricted to Library Club members.
*Sadie Hawkins Dance – Let make it Sweet Downey!!! Sadie Hawkins Dance will be Saturday February 21 st 8:00pm – 11:00pm. Tickets
are now on sale in the Student Center, $15 for 1 ticket or $25 for 2 tickets.
FOOTBALL PLAYERS: All players interested in playing football in 2015; packets are available now for pickup in Coach Plaa's classroom

*The Downey swim season starts on Feb. 10th. We will have the team meeting today, in room 210 at 2:15. If you are new to the sport or
interested in swimming this year be sure to be at the meeting. We will discuss the season details, the practice schedule, and collect athlete
information. If you did not play a Fall sport, you must get a sports packet from the Student Center and get the paper work and the physical
completed. See Coach Graham in room 54 or Coach Vesey in room 210 if you have questions.
*Attendance: Reminder to check on Power school to see if any unverified absence haven’t been cleared. After 7 days and the absences
haven’t been cleared a truancy step and Saturday School will be given. Very important to check power-school weekly. Any questions please
stop by room 4 the attendance office.
*ROP Cosmetology: Juniors and seniors interested in ROP cosmetology for the 2015-2016 school year should stop by the Career Center and
pick up a flyer regarding the class, entrance test and requirements ASAP.
*ATTENTION DOWNEY HIGH SCHOOL: For one week only we are conducting a coat drive contest to help underserved families in
Modesto. Bring gently used coats to the Student Center every day until next Friday 2/13 and receive a ticket for each coat to return to your 6th
period teacher. The 6th period class with the most tickets will receive a special party! Thanks for helping serve our community and meeting
the needs of those less fortunate.
*Job Opportunity: the Modesto Nuts Professional Baseball Club is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for
employment during the 2015 baseball season. Here is your chance to be part of the Central Valley’s Home Team and gain valuable work
experience in a fun and exciting sports environment. Stop by the Career Center today and pick up more information!
