Job description and Responsibilities
We offer a position for a motivated person to support our Process Research and Development group in
Copenhagen as:
Downstream Process Research Scientist
In this position you will work as part of an international process development and scale-up team to develop
and scale up new fermentation-based processes for the production of high-value products such as flavor,
fragrance, and nutritional ingredients. The primary responsibility of this position will be hands-on
laboratory/pilot scale process experimentation, to develop and optimize new downstream processes for
recovery and purification of fermentation products. The successful candidate will have significant experience
in similar research and development environments, and a track record of successful problem solving and
collaboration. This position will require a self-starting, results-oriented researcher, who will thrive in a fastpaced environment where priorities will shift regularly.
Required skills and experience
M.S. or Ph.D. Biotechnology/Chemical Engineer/Chemist, minimum 2 years professional experience,
5+ years preferred
Significant hands-on lab/pilot experience developing industrial biochemical downstream processes
and/or chemical processes
Experience developing relevant unit operations such as solvent extraction, crystallization, adsorption,
evaporation, distillation, liquid-phase chemical or enzyme reactions, filtrations, centrifugal
separations, membrane separations, etc.
Experience applying analytical methods such as HPLC, GC, mass spectrometry, and NMR for
characterization of process streams and diagnosis of process issues
Ability to plan and execute experimental plans independently, while regularly aligning priorities with
project team to ensure experiments are focused on critical project needs
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve chemical process issues
Strong interpersonal skills, desire to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional, international
team
Strong communication skills, ability to quickly and succinctly summarize data and conclusions in
shareable written formats, and report out results clearly during teleconferences
Strong written and verbal English skills
Experience specifying and safely commissioning laboratory-scale equipment and/or pilot-scale
equipment for testing of industrial processes is desirable
Experience developing new products and scaling up processes for production of new products is
desirable
Experience interfacing with contract research or contract manufacturing organizations is desirable
Experience with fermentation processes is an advantage
Flexible, ready to adapt quickly as company priorities change
As a person, you are enthusiastic, resourceful, flexible and hard-working and have a genuine interest in
carrying out high quality research & development and learning new competencies. You enjoy problem solving
and can cope with rapid changes in priorities. You have good interpersonal and communication skills.
