EDUCATION MINISTER PAYS UNANNOUNCED VISIT TO SELECTED
COMMUNITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT SITES
The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Tuesday, January 27, 2015
visited some selected construction sites of the Community Senior High Schools currently ongoing in Western, Central and Eastern regions to acquaint herself with the progress of work so
far.
The unannounced visit was also meant to inspect and monitor the work of the Contractors on a
typical working day.
The Minister who was accompanied by the Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, the
Deputy Central Regional Minister, Queenster Pokua Sawyer, the two Deputy Ministers for
Education, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Hon. Alex Kyeremeh as well as the Chief
Director, Mr. Enoch Cobbinah, visited sites at Bamianko in the Nzema East District of the
Western region, Ekumfi Otuam in the Ekumfi District as well as Bawjiase in the Ewutu Senya
District of the Central region and Nyanua in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern
region.
At all the sites visited, the Minister and her team interacted with the Contractors who were very
busy at work to meet the deadline.
All the Contractors at the sites assured the Minister and her entourage of their preparedness to
complete the project on schedule, despite some initial challenges faced with site location, access
to site among others.
At Bamianko in the Nzema East District of the Western region for example, the Foreman of the
Antartic Contract Works was highly optimistic of finishing the project ahead of schedule.
According to him, more than 75% of work has been completed. At the time of the visit,
plastering had been done while roofing was going on.
The Minister and her team were pleased with the progress of work. She was particularly happy
about the diligent manner in which workers at the sites were undertaking their tasks.
She, therefore, assured the Contractors of Government’s support in making the projects a
success.
Each Community Senior High School consists of 24 standard classrooms, four laboratories, two
libraries, 16 offices for the Heads of Departments and offices for internet facilities.
While on the tour, the Minister and her entourage also paid unannounced visits to some Basic
Schools in the Central region to interact with teachers and students.
In a related development, the Deputy Minister (Tertiary), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and some
officials from the Ministry during the preceding weekend, visited other project sites at Gomoa
Gyamang and Ntranoa in Gomoa East District and Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Districts
respectively (all in the Central region) Sankor in Ahanta West District of the Western region and
Ashaiman Community 22 site in the Greater Accra region.
