SFMTA Weekend Transit and Traffic Advisory
San Francisco—The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases
the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for this weekend, from
Friday, January 30 through Sunday, February 1, 2015. Anyone traveling in San Francisco
can check www.sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 76 Muni lines will get them
where they want to go. All road users are encouraged to be aware, share the
roadway and to follow all rules to ensure everyone’s safety. Whether you are riding
Muni, taking a taxi, walking or riding a bike, please remain vigilant to keep everyone
safe. If you see suspicious activity, please report it.

Critical Mass
On Friday: At 6 p.m., the Critical Mass bicycle ride will begin at Justin Herman Plaza.
There will be heavy traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
San Francisco Half Marathon
On Sunday: The 32nd annual Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Half Marathon will begin
at 8 a.m. The race begins and ends in Golden Gate Park and is accompanied by a 5K
Run which stays completely in the Park.

San Francisco Half Marathon continued
The following street closures will be required from 7:15 to 10 a.m. Each street will be
reopened as the last runner goes through:
 Oak Street between Stanyan and Broderick streets
 Fell Street between Stanyan and Broderick streets
 Broderick Street between Hayes and Page streets
 Baker Street between Hayes and Page streets
 Masonic Street between Hayes and Page streets
 Stanyan Street between Hayes and Page streets
 Kezar Drive between Stanyan Street and Lincoln Way
 John F Kennedy Drive between Stanyan Street and Great Highway
Both northbound and southbound Great Highway from Fulton Street to Skyline Boulevard
will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon.
The following Muni routes will be affected:
 18 46th Avenue
 23 Monterey
 33 Stanyan
 43 Masonic
 44 O’Shaughnessy
Launch of New Muni Route 55 16th Street
Beginning Saturday: SFMTA will launch a new bus route 55 16th Street to connect
customers and the community between 16th Street Mission BART Station to UCSF’s
Mission Bay campus, the new UCSF Medical Center and the expanding 16 th Street
corridor.
The new 55 16th Street Muni route will operate seven days a week from approximately 6
a.m. to midnight. Service will be provided at a 15-minute interval on weekdays and at a
20-minute interval in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays.

UPDATE: Sunset Tunnel Re-railing Project
The Sunset Tunnel Trackway Improvement Project includes track and infrastructure
replacements inside the Sunset Tunnel, located between Cole Valley and Duboce Triangle,
Transit Signal Priority upgrades for nine intersections along the N Judah Line and
construction of two accessible platforms at Judah Street and 28th Avenue. This multiple
system upgrades to the N Judah Metro Line will make transit safer and more reliable.
Seismic upgrades to Sunset Tunnel are important part of the safety enhancement project.
It will involve structural retrofit of the tunnel portal retaining walls and their foundations.
In order to maximize construction opportunities, the SFMTA has integrated multiple
construction components under the Sunset Tunnel project in order to minimize the
inconveniences for both N Judah riders and the community around the construction area:
1. The Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system upgrades are taking place at nine
intersections sequentially along the N Judah Line. The TSP system will use
technology to reduce dwelling time at traffic signals for Muni light rail vehicles by
holding green lights longer.
2. The construction of two new wheelchair accessible platforms on Judah and
28th Avenue has begun. Crews are working to reconstruct the inbound stop from
Mondays to Fridays. The stop is currently not in service. Muni customers can board
N Judah rail vehicle at the temporary stop at 27th Avenue. This work requires traffic
lane closures.
The new platform will include longer boarding islands and in compliant of ADA
(Americans with Disabilities Act) curb ramps, making Muni Metro system safer and
easier to use for all customers.
Project Update:
The Sunset Tunnel weekend construction scheduled for this weekend is cancelled. The N
Judah rail service will operate on regular weekend schedule.
The Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system upgrades at nine intersections along the N
Judah Line: Crews are working on the south sidewalk of Judah Street between 37th and
38th avenues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

UPDATE: Folsom Street Off-Ramp Realignment Project
The San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) continues re-construction of
the Folsom Street off-ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to Fremont Street. This off-ramp
configuration will facilitate a better gateway that leads into a pedestrian-oriented
neighborhood. Installation of a new traffic signal at the off-ramp intersection will allow for a
newly constructed continuous sidewalk and bike lanes on the east side of Fremont Street.
This construction work is anticipated to be completed in April of 2015.
During the construction period, the 108 Treasure Island Muni route will be affected during
all hours of service.

UPDATE: Sewer Restoration Work
Crews from the Public Utilities Commission and San Francisco Public Works will continue
the installation work of a new sewer main pipeline on Spear Street between Market and
Mission streets. This construction project is anticipated to last until spring of 2015.
Construction work will continue to take place at the intersection of Spear and Mission
streets. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
During the construction hours, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.:
 No street parking will be allowed
 Sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian traffic
 Local access will be allowed
 With an exception of Muni buses, the intersection of Spear and Mission streets will
be close to all other traffic
During the closure, there may be brief delays on the following Muni lines and routes:

 14 Mission
 14 Mission Limited
 14 Owl
 21 Hayes
 31 Balboa
 L Owl

REMINDER: Central Subway Construction
4th Street between Harrison and Bryant streets will remain closed to vehicular traffic while
the construction of the portal is underway. This closure will be in effect until the end of
February 2015.
REMINDER: Sunday Parking Meter Enforcement
As a reminder, most on-street meters and off-street parking meters no longer require
payment on Sundays, with the exception of the following areas where parking meters
are enforced seven days per week throughout the year except Thanksgiving Day,
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day:
 Parking meters in the Fisherman’s Wharf area
 Along The Embarcadero Roadway
 In the Special Event Area around AT&T Park*
 Five metered off-street parking facilities listed below:
o 8th Avenue at Clement Street
o 9th Avenue at Clement Street
o Geary Boulevard at 21st Avenue
o 18th Avenue at Geary Boulevard
o Pierce Street Garage (between Lombard and Chestnut streets)
Parking meters in the remainder of the City are enforced Monday through Saturday
throughout the year except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
* Parking meters in the Special Event Area operate on Sundays only when there is an
event.
