“Jesus –
The Ultimate Authority”
January 31, February 1 & 2, 2015
Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church

Our Communion Practice
The Lord’s Supper is a fellowship meal. In this meal Jesus
expresses his fellowship with us by giving us his body and blood for the
forgiveness of sins. In this meal we also express our fellowship with each
other, that is, that we are united in a common confession of faith.
We at Emanuel want everyone to enjoy this fellowship meal.
However, we cannot ask someone to express agreement with us until we
give that person an opportunity to discover what we teach. That is why
we schedule frequent Life With God classes to provide an overview of our
teachings. Please ask one of our pastors for the date when the next class
begins.
If you are a member of Emanuel or a member of a WELS or ELS
congregation, we invite you to express our common confession by
communing with us. You may wish to use the “Personal Preparation for
Holy Communion” on page 156 of Christian Worship to examine yourself.
Please register your intent to commune as a member or guest by filling
out the Friendship Register, which is located at the end of the pew.

Large Print Hymnals
Large-print copies of the service are available for
anyone in need – please ask an usher for a copy.
Wheelchair Area
For your convenience, there are two areas set aside to accommodate
members with wheelchairs, walkers, or other special space needs.
Ushers are available to assist you to the following locations:
 Halfway down the middle and side isles on the lectern side of
church, there is a pew with wheelchair space on either end.
 In the right half of the front row, also on the lectern side, there is a
larger area with wheelchair space.
Attention Hearing Impaired Members
Special receivers are available to help you hear the service. Ask one of
our ushers for a receiver and return it to an usher after the service.
Parent Room
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” We love children and
encourage their worship. Please don’t feel embarrassed if your child
is restless during the service. You are among caring people who
understand. If you feel that your children are distracting others from
worship, you may take them to the entryway or a parent’s room is
available. There is a closed-circuit TV in the room to watch & listen to
the service. An usher can assist you in locating this room, also called
the “Bible Class Room”.

Scheel’s Scrip Now Available
Many of you have requested Scheel's Scrip, and we are happy to tell
you we now have it on hand! We have $25, $50, and $100
denominations. If you have gotten out of the habit of buying Scrip
after the holidays, now is a great time to start in again! Remember
that the Scrip year ends on May 31.
Teach or Learn to Knit Opportunity
Women of HIS Word is looking for those who are interested in
knitting. We are looking for both knitting "mentors" and those who
would like to learn how to knit. Our first project will be a dishcloth.
Several sessions may be needed. If you haven’t knitted for a while or
need a refresher session, feel free to join us. Minimal expenses for
participants. Before we plan any further, we need to have the
volunteer mentors and the willing students. So let's see if there is an
interest by letting Barb Meyer know. Contact via email at
[email protected] or calling 920-740-6054.

Radio Broadcasts
We have many broadcast dates available for 2015. Dates available
start on February 8, March 8, 22 & 29 or any of the Lenten Services.
Maundy Thursday are also available. The cost to sponsor a radio
broadcast for 2015 is $138. You may call the Emanuel office at 9825444 to schedule your broadcast.
Blood Drive Update
A warm thank you to the 28 people who attended our January blood
drive. There have been some changes regarding the mobile unit's
scheduling.
The staff has been instructed to follow the scheduled appointments
strictly and allow walk-ins only when there are open spots on that
schedule. This may initially sound confusing (and difficult to follow),
however, the blood center goes by the schedule to plan staffing and
promote less wait time for donors. Bottom line is to try to sign up and
attend at that time.
Sometimes conflicts arise when people sign up in church for a certain
time when that time has already been taken by someone signing up
online. In the past I have been able to place donors in the closest time
slot to their preferred time and it has not been an issue. To insure
your preferred time you can sign up online @www.save3lives.org or
call me to sign you up online (982-7544). You may still sign up at
church or come as a walk-in. I will call anyone who signs up at church
in a spot that has been filled online to try to minimize any conflicts.
You can call the community blood center if you have any questions.
Our next drive is set for Tuesday, March 10th from 1-6pm. Hope to
see you there! Congratulations to the prize drawing winners:
Harry Blum, Kim Brown, Jonathan Sawall, and Sylvia Stern.
Wishing Star
The Early Childhood classes are looking for empty coffee cans with the
lids. We will be using these for our Valentine collection boxes! We
need at least 27 and only have 6 right now. If you are so moved to
donate coffee cans or any of the items off the wishing star, please
remove the star, pick up the item(s) and turn it all in to the Emanuel
Office or to Mrs. D. Thank you to all who have been donating!

Word Wall
We did it!! The first time in a long time our new list is longer than last
year's list! We made a list last year of 64 Oo words. This year we
reached 94 Oo words! This is a combination of our 3pre/4k students,
our church family and some of the 7th/8th graders. We have some
7th/8th grade boys that visit our room on lunch just about every day.
They have made it a mission to make long lists of words. They even
research the internet for more words! Thank you to all who donate
words to our lists!
Doodle Pads for Kids
Emanuel has received a large amount of doodle pads for the Emanuel
pew racks. We are asking that you have your little ones use the
doodle pads instead of the offering envelopes in the pews to do their
artwork. Thanks for your help!
Basketball Tournament Advertising
The annual Fox Valley WELS League Basketball Tournament is

are interested in this advertising opportunity.

WELS Marriage Enrichment
A famous person once said, “Any fool can complicate things; it takes
a genius to simplify them.” The Bible does call marriage a mystery,
but the gospel of Jesus unravels the mystery and simplifies things. Let
an upcoming WELS Marriage Enrichment and Get-Away Weekend help
you give glory to God and joy to your spouse. Space is limited, so
register early for the weekend event at destination resorts in Lake
Geneva (Feb. 13-15) or Wausau (Feb. 20-22). Space is limited. Lake
Geneva sold out twice already, but they have negotiated more rooms.
Wausau is nearing capacity. When they reach capacity in either
location, the registration link will be disabled. A flyer with more
information and registration details can be picked up in the Welcome
Center or Emanuel Office or visit www.wels.net/adult-discipleship for
more information and to register.
