Newlywed woman commits suicide,
blames husband in her last letter
By Vikram Gaikwad
KOPARKHAIRNE: A
24 year old newlywed
woman, in a disturbing incident committed suicide by hanging herself by bedsheets citing her
husband to be responsible for her suicide
on Monday.
The deceased
woman Sonal Amit
Dande (24) and her
husband Amit Dande
are residents of sector
– 1 of Koparkhairne.
The couple had been
in a relationship past
five years and had
eloped and married
for two months. Amit
is a employee in
logistics and therefore
was out of home for
majority of time and
had developed an
alcoholic addiction.
Due to this he used to
spend most of his
time with his friends
and this was a major
cause of fights between the husband
and wife. On Monday
evening, when Amit
was sleeping off in his
room after a particular big fight between
him and Sonal, she
committed suicide by
hanging herself by the
bedsheets on the
ceiling fan.
As Amit awoke he
contacted his relatives
and admitted her to a
hospital but Sonal was
dead before anything
could be done. Koparkhairne police had
initially registered a
case of accidental
death, but after
recovering Sonal’s
letter citing her
husband to be responsible, they registered a
case against him. The
last letter was addressed to her father,
in which she had
apologized and cited
that her husband was
the reason why she
was forced to take
such an extreme step.
Accordingly Koparkhairne Police
lodged a complaint
against the husband
and arrested him.

Satosole murder mystery solved
By Vikram Gaikwad
SATSOLE: The dead
body of a young
woman who was
found murdered at
the Satsole near
Palm Beach road has
finally been solved
after the much
problems.
The murder which
was speculated to be
done by the victim
Nagamabanu Shahidali Quereshi’s (21)
husband Shahidali
Vajidali Quereshi (29)
is found to be true.
The accused husband
Shahidali is a Shivaji
Nagar resident of
Govandi and he was
romantically involved
with the victim
Nagma who was his
cousin sister. When
her marriage was
finalized with some
other, the marriage
was broken off by
Shahidali and the two
had married past two
months. They had
been living in Shivaji
Nagar for past two
months where Nagma
used to run off from
her house during
some nights. This had
angered Shahidali and
the couple is said to
have fought a lot on
the subject. The
accused was suspicious of Nagma’s
character and therefore had planned to
put an end to all of it.
According to his
plan, Shahid was
carrying a knife and a
bottle of petrol in his
motorcycle carrier. On
3rd January he sweet
talked Nagma to come
with him to Satsole by
Palm Beach road and
killed her by taking
her near the covert
area near the creek.
He had cut her throat
and then to hide her
identity he had set
her on fire by pouring
petrol on her body.
The next day when
the body was recovered it was in a half
burned state and due
to the burns on the
face was unidentifiable for the police. As
the body was finally
recognized by Nagama’s relatives as a
runaway girl from
Baiganwadi, the
relatives had relayed
their suspicions
against Shahidali who
was missing ever
since the murder.
Turbhe police has
deployed a team to
catch the guilty in his
native land in U.P,
however Shahidali
had gotten wind of the
plans and was escaping towards Mumbai.
The police meanwhile
caught him on his
way in Boisar on
Monday.
Upon interrogation
the accused confessed
to have murdered his
wife Nagmabanu and
was accordingly
arrested.

Where is the fight against
corruption Anna JI?
Delhi’s best known
former cop and activist
Kiran Bedi has joined
the BJP. Party chief
Amit Shah confirmed
that she will contest the
assembly elections from
Delhi next month.
With this the second
crusader of Anna Hazare’s brigade for corruption bends her knees to
fulfill political ambitions. Earlier it was
Arvind Kejariwal who
formed the political party AAM ADMI PARTY.
If we just refer
to the history, we
will find that Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and other
known people like
Swami Agnivesh,
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Anna Hazare
and Mallika Sarabhai are part of the
movement called
India Against Corruption. Its website
describes the movement
as “an expression of collective anger of people
of India against corruption. We have all come
together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government
to enact the Jan Lokpal
Bill. We feel that if this
Bill was enacted it
would create an effective deterrence against
corruption.”
But where are these
crusaders today? In previous year the Indian
saga witnessed a massive uprising, where
the ascendancy of
“Anna Hazare” swayed
emotively and towered
seasoned Anna as an
iconic furor for Indian
youth demanding equitable accountability for
all. The economic
march of any country
must coincide with the
fulfillment of the demands of its public in
political sphere as well.
Long colonial experience of India also illustrates the fact that political demands need to
be satiated in a society,
otherwise existing rule
fails to commensurate
the demands of the educated masses and results in turbulence as
it happened during the
freedom movement of
India. The massive resistance of Anna Hazare in India that continues even today
against the Congress led central
government is the
applied manifestation of the assertion
and dynamism of
Indian Middle
class.
India’s middle
class yearns for its
potent assertion in
political sphere
and that’s why it stood
by a person who is prolocutor of orthodoxy
and traditionalism. But
then why the people
became indifferent to
this strong movement?
Once a torrent of hope,
now trickles to a few.
It’s a question whose
answer lies in future.
But on this Republic
Day let us think about
it. Jai Hind!

Diplomatic victory
By all accounts, what Narendra Modi has
achieved in 7 months of his Prime Ministership
is extraordinary. No one will dispute that he won
the parliamentary election with his personal charisma. He has repeated it by winning the friendship of the most powerful nation of world, United States of America. Some of the understandings reached by him with the Obama administration have the potential to revive our sagging
economy, expand the industrial base, increase
its technological prowess and create job badly
needed for its legion of youth. That is sure to
take the economy to a different level spreading
the fruits across the community.
Is it then an unmixed baggage of success?
Far from it. We are facing a lot of problems at
the ground level. Our failure to establish civil
liberties has the potential to nullify it all. We have
too many small interest groups attacking our
polity at all levels. There is a group which is
holding up infrastructuctural works by refusing
to give up land which they don’t cultivate. There
is a group of rikshaw drivers which is objecting
to the starting of bus services! There are hawkers unions which are taking over the foot paths
and spoiling civic arrangements. There are caste
groups which are stuck in groove of tradition
and becoming an obstacle to all sorts of reforms.
The irony is that our political system has grown
and growing on their strength. It has become a
prisoner in the hands of these parochial groups.
One can say that these are the negative gains
our democracy. Fifty years ago in Mumbai, people used to stand in the queue at the bus stops.
One cannot see them any more; that is the simplest and most visible example of law and order
having broken down. Law enforcing authorities
have stopped taking notice of them. It is these
groups that are making our civic services falter.
A big establishment of defence production may
provide jobs to a few educated and skilled workers, but the gains are unlikely to reach the common man.
The government is helpless in the face of
these interest groups. For example, Maharashtra government has decided to buy the house in
London where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar lived,
for Rs 35 crores. How can a government which
is writhing under the weight of over one lakh
crore rupees afford to fritter money over such
symbolic causes. Various memorials being set
up for Ambedkar are of the same class. They
are unlikely to help the common man, even the
dalits, in improving their economic condition in
any way. The decision of BMC to give tabs to
VIII standard students in municipal schools is
of the same class. It could have utilized the money for improving the standard of education in
these classes rather than gifting it away! These
are a few examples of regressive decisions that
are forced on us. Narendra Modi’s diplomatic
success is not likely to bring about any change
in the situation.

movement which has resulted in saving the toll as well
as time. Those who travelled

the program venue.
One of the devotees who
was in a rush to reach the

President of BANM – CREDAI
opposes hike in cement prices
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
NAVI MUMBAI: Devang Trivedi, the President of BANM – CREDAI, Navi Mumbai, opposed the arbitrary
hike in cement prices
announced by the Cement Manufactures.
Here is what he
said, “The price of cement has gone up from
Rs. 270/- to Rs. 348/per bag, an increase of
almost 29% per cent.
An abnormal increase
of 40% in the price of
cement in the last one
month has thrown construction industry out
of gear in Maharashtra. The BANM – CREDAI will take a petition
to the Central Government of India requesting for slashing the increased rates in a
week’s time, failing
which, we would be
forced to halt the construction activities by
our all members.
The move by the cement manufacturers to
increase the price of cement by Rs. 78/- is unjustified as there is no
change in taxes or any

of the game and to work
hard in order to im-
significant increase in
the cost of inputs for
cement and also the oil
price reduces substantially. Everything in
reverse, this is not real,
it looks as if there has
been artificially created
reasons for a random,
illogical increase in cement prices.
The present situation and political scenario and the upcoming
season does not warrant the need for such
hike in cement prices
and requires a focus on
capacity utilization.
The Governments
should take strict action against the cement
manufacturers for
cartelization to increase
the prices. The price
increase is grossly
timed wrong, when
prices are generously
supposed to be on the
downtick due to the
slowing of construction
pace.
We demand an immediate roll back of
prices for cement and
urge the Governments
to intervene and resolve the issue. The fo-
cus of the developers in
the region is on affordable housing. The steep
increase in the price of
cement in Maharashtra will add to the cost
of housing and thereby
increasing the burden
on all stakeholders.
Considering the current low prices for property this increased cost
will create negative
growth and escalate
artificial pricing. To
avoid such a situation
we are insisting on an
immediate roll back of
the price hike.
The Governments
should also take cognizance of the fact that if
the real estate sector
will stop procurement it
will create huge revenue and tax losses to
the government. There
is need for an open dialogue with right intervention by the governments to bring decorum
and discipline in the
operations of cement
manufacturers and will
take all appropriate
measures to ensure that
the cartelization is broken.”
