FEBRUARY EVENTS
Happy Black History Month! This month we have a variety of activities for the teens to participate in. On Saturday, February 14, TASCO
Teen Programs will host their annual Valentine’s Dance celebration at J.W. Cate Recreation Center (5801 22 nd Avenue North), 7:00 –
11:00pm. The night includes, video games, best dressed contest, photo booth, message board, musical performances, and more. Some
of these items have an additional cost ranging from $1.00 - $3.00. Dress to impress as this event is semiformal, which means NO JEANS
OR SHORTS. A “Best Dressed” contest with prizes will be held. Tickets for the dance are $10, includes dinner, and can be purchased
directly at the recreation center. Teens need a ticket to attend. For more information contact TASCO at 727-892-5060.
We will have our annual Black History Month celebration at Frank Pierce Recreation Center the end of the month.

TGFH DAY
On Monday, February 16, public schools are closed. We will have a full day of camp. Breakfast and lunch are not provided; campers must
bring a nonrefrigerated lunch if they are not participating in the field trip. A healthy snack will be provided.
TASCO SPORTS LEAGUES
TASCO flag football comes to an end this month! Our teen program has four teams in the league. Please come show your teams some
support. We will be trying hard to bring trophies home to our recreation center!
BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM UPDATE
With all the academic enrichment we are currently providing, we would like to inform all participants and parents that the teens will still
have ample time to participate in recreational activities on a daily basis. We are always looking for innovative games and fun trips for
teens to attend. Teens are encouraged to invite friends to check out the program and sign up. TASCO Teen Programs have evolved greatly
throughout the years, and we want our community to continually stay informed about our great programs. If you’re interested or already
a part of our grant, there are required guidelines and responsibilities in order to continue to qualify for the free spot.
i-READY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The i-Ready program assists students with math and reading skills in areas they may be lacking. Students will be assessed at their current
level, and the web-based program provides them with added practice as it attempts to build the students up to the necessary levels for
their current age group. Students are REQUIRED to log onto the program and work on areas of academic need on a weekly basis. Our
participants have the capability of logging on at home for added practice if needed. Please see staff for further information if you are
interested in monitoring your student’s performance. This program is in addition to the already available tutoring programs.
TUTORING PROGRAM
We encourage our teens to take full advantage of our tutoring program. Ms. Arnita Carr and Ms. Angela Hawkins are certified teachers
with the Pinellas County School Board and are designated to our teen program for assistance. Tutoring is an intricate piece of teen
programs throughout our city programs. We will continue to strive for academic excellence by offering free tutoring to all teen participants
in the After School Teen Camp. Parents are encouraged to speak with teachers about their teen’s school challenges. This is a great way
to help our teachers better understand your teen’s individual needs.
