President’s Message - February, 2015
My Holidays were probably like yours, filled with family, friends, “colds” and skiing. But hopefully yours did not include a
concussion from falling off the Mountain Chief lift at Copper Mountain. First significant accident I have had in 47 years of skiing
and fortunately no lasting damage……with the possible exception of my pride :). I am so glad I was wearing a helmet and
highly recommend helmets for both biking and skiing…certainly saved what is left of my old brain. On the bright side, I was with
my step daughter, Theone and her fiancé Bobby, who took photos of my “free” toboggan ride down the hill. My ski patrol ride
down was very smooth as Bill asked me over and over again to remember the color Blue, which was the test word he gave me
at the top. I passed.
On a club note, the board is working on a policy statement covering the return of trip deposits and payments in the event you
cannot make a trip. Trip leaders often must pay in advance for lodging, lift tickets, etc. so giving full refunds may be problematic
depending on the financial commitments for a particular trip. In general the Board
agreed that the club cannot absorb big loses on trips and we cannot expect our
hard working trip leaders to call around to find a replacement so you or me are
guaranteed 100% refunds on every trip. Stay tuned for the final version of our club
refund policy and please remain kind and courteous to our trip leaders.
Cheers,
Reed

2014 - 2015 FSC SKI TRIP SCHEDULE
Though Flatirons Ski Club doesn’t expect to make money on trips, it does expect each trip to cover its costs. With that in mind,
please be aware of the following policies:
* The $25.00 deposit guarantees your spot on the trip. If you cannot go, the $25.00 deposit will not be refunded.
* Notify the leader promptly if you have to cancel, even if you have only paid the $25.00 deposit and the
full payment isn’t yet due.
* If something prevents you from going, do not expect a refund. If a replacement can be found,
then that person can reimburse you.

Canyonlands, Utah
Friday, May 1- Monday, May 4
The Flatirons Ski Club annually rents 2 houses in Moab. UT for hikes, bike rides and car tours in
Canyonlands. 26 members signed up at the January meeting and the beds are now full. There is no one on
the Waiting List so your chances are still good. You could also rent space in a motel or hostel in Moab and
join the group. The cost this year for 3 nights is $70 with a $25 deposit. The balance is due in April.
Hut Trip
Wednesday, August 12- Friday, August 14
The Flatirons Ski Club always rents 2 nights in a 10th Mt. Div. Hut during August. This year we are
going back to probably the best hut, Fowler-Hilliard near old Camp Hale west of Vail. The cost for a
hut bed and 4 meals is $70 with a $25 deposit. There are beds for 16 and signups will start at the
February FSC meeting. Flatirons must reserve and pay for the Hut in January since it is so popular.
Our hut reservation is half price since we are a non-profit club and use mid-week dates. In past
years when there were at least 14 members on the Waiting List we were able to reserve an
additional date.
