Who Should Attend
The chapter will be holding an Iron
Med Competition for Residents. This
interactive program allows residents
to test their medical skills and will be
held from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on
Saturday. Residents are encouraged
to participate to test their medical
skills. Prizes will be awarded during
the Doctor’s Dilemma™ competition
on Saturday afternoon.

Learning Objectives
It is with distinct pleasure that
the Maryland Chapter presents
chapter members with the Theodore
E. Woodward Award for Medical
Education and Research, the Samuel
P. Asper Award for Excellence in
Internal Medicine, the Mary Betty
Stevens Award for Clinical Research,
the Philip Mackowiak Award for
Student Achievements, the Hospitalist
Excellence Award and the Early Career
Physician Service Award. These
members have rendered distinguished
service to the chapter and community
and upheld the high ideals and professional standards for which the College
is known. The awards will be presented
at the reception on Friday evening.
At the conclusion of this activity,
the participant will be able to:
• Apply updated knowledge of new
lipid guidelines, geriatrics in the
primary care office, and renal,
pulmonary, and GI updates to
clinical practice.
• Improve clinical practice by incorporating major new developments
in diabetes, iron deficiency anemia,
and preoperative guidelines.
• Understand recent advances in
care of melanoma, dementia
patients, and Ebola virus in
clinical problem solving.
• Understand political advocacy
and reform through the session
on Maryland Update on the
New Health Care System.
Evergreen Award
The Evergreen Program was created
in 1993 by the College to recognize
and reward outstanding chapter efforts.
The Evergreen Program provides visibility to those chapters that have been
successful in implementing programs
that increase member communication
and involvement.
Each year all chapters are invited to
nominate their own programs and to
provide details on the goals of the
program, how it was implemented,
and what the results were. The Chapter
Subcommittee has the difficult task
of selecting a small group of chapters,
which are recognized nationally and
locally for their achievements.
We are excited to announce the 2014
Evergreen Award will be presented
to our chapter for “The Maryland
Chapter Medical Student Committee:
Creating a Legacy of Medical Student
Leadership Development program”
during the Friday reception.
