VCLA opened my eyes to all the moving parts in
Ventura County, giving me valuable, insightful
experiences in areas that I was unfamiliar, such
as law enforcement, agriculture, and health care.
Additionally, the quality and passion of my fellow
cohort members represented the
microcosm of what is best.

VCLA prides itself in being an initiative of the United Way of
Ventura County. The program focus session topics will typically
include but are not limited to the following critical areas of
study: Standard of Living and Housing, Public Safety and
Social Services, Healthcare and Aging, Community Exploration,
Local Government and the Legislative Process, Sacramento
Field Trip, Education and Workforce Development, Economic
Development and Labor, Transportation and Environment,
Water and Agriculture, and Arts and Culture.
Personal Leadership Development
VCLA infuses personal leadership development throughout the
curriculum each year utilizing the relational leadership model
Our goal is to insure VCLA graduates are extremely effective
leaders who recognize leadership as a relational process that
can occur at any level within an organization and is a choice
one must intentionally make.
Immersion Activity
The purpose of the immersion activity is to provide a unique
experience that is not necessarily available to the general
public and enhances the curriculum by providing participants
with an in-depth experience with one of the session subject
matters. The activity must not be related to your job, volunteer
work, or something that you may otherwise encounter. It is
encouraged and recommended that other cohort members
not engage in the same activity at the same time.
