Recap of the 1st Nine Weeks & Look into the Future
Note from the Front Office
It has been an outstanding start to the school year. Currently, we have 500 students at MGE. And they
are learning, learning, learning. Our campus based leadership team has created some rigorous goals for
us this year and teachers are busy doing “whatever it takes” to get the job done. We are continually
meeting in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) to analyze data and discuss how to improve
instruction!
Each grade level will be going on two field trips this year. In order to chaperone or volunteer (even for
Field Day in May) you must have completed your FBISD criminal history background check. You can
find that on the FBISD website—www.fortbendisd.com! Call the front office if you have any questions
about volunteering. We need and want your help, so make it a point to complete it today!!
Learning all kinds of math with
manipulatives!
At this time we are still looking for a VIPS Coordinator (Volunteers in Public Schools). This is an unpaid, volunteer position. It requires you to
attend a monthly meeting and report back to campus with information on volunteering opportunities. The position is also charged with organizing
volunteers for MGE. Let me know if you are interested!
We are looking forward to a great 2nd nine weeks! Your kids are learning a lot. Let me know how we can make MGE a better place for you and
your children. Your input is valued and we know there is always improvements to make.
Thank you for all your support. — Ms. Bruhn and Ms. Mehall

News from our new
Parent Educator
My name is Colette Michalis and I am excited to be your new
Parent Center Educator. My family and I moved into the Fort
Bend area 6 years ago from Canada. I understand the
demands on a parents’ time being a Mom of 4 kids that are
currently enrolled from elementary to college. Whether you
have a lot or a little time to offer your support is welcomed
and it’ll make a big difference in our children’s experiences
here at Mission Glen. Since moving to Fort Bend, I have been
a very active in my area schools ranging from Room Mom to
various Booster Committee Chairs. It is my
goal to get to know all of the Mission Glen
parents. I’m especially excited about all the
great programs that are available and can’t
wait to share them with you. I look forward
to helping and encouraging each of you to
get involved and appreciate the opportunity
to work with you, your children and our
staff.

I cannot believe the 1st Nine Weeks is already behind us. During the first
nine weeks I was excited to bring a wonder character education program
to MGE, The NED Show. Many of our parents will think of this as the
yo-yo show; however, ask you students what NED really stands for and I
know they will say NEVER GIVE UP, ENCOURAGE OTHERS, and
DO YOUR BEST! The NED Show presenter, Ms. Kristie, used the yoyo’s and the fiction character NED to teach the students how we are
always faced with choices and it is up to each of us to never give up on
ourselves and others, encourage others, and always do our best every
day. So, when you see your student struggling, remind them of NED
and how he made a decision to give his best effort so he could encourage
others to do their best. I am also very excited that Mission Glen will
have our 1st Annual College and Career Day on December 13th. If you
are interested in sharing with our 4th and 5th grade students about your
career and how you choose your career path, please feel free to contact
me at the school.

Students for
Success!
Kinder:Kindergarten has had a blast for the first nine weeks! We have had great time learning about how zero
is an important number and we have developed a huge love for writing! There are some exciting things that will be
coming in the second nine weeks. On November 4, we will have the 50th day of school, be sure to dress in your best
1950’s attire! On October 27, we will have our field trip to Dewberry Farm, please be sure to bring a sack lunch!
1st:First grade has learned so much this nine weeks. We have been making connections in reading and in math we
have been writing addition and subtraction number sentences. We will be going to Main Street Theater to see Lilly's
Purple Plastic Purse and after we will have a picnic at Discovery Green Park. We are looking forward to doing some
expository writing this next nine weeks and more science investigations. First grade rocks!!!!
Ciencias. ¡Primer grado es maravilloso!
2nd:The second grade teachers are very excited for this school year. We are off to a fast start and the students are
working very hard every day. As the year continues, students should continue to work on reading fluency and
comprehension each day. In math, students will expand their addition and subtraction strategies to help them add and
subtract 2-digit by 2-digit number. We will have a field trip on November 20th, so stay tuned for more information .Los

3rd: In Reading, third graders have enjoyed implementing Daily 5 into their daily routine. Numeracy has been the highlight of our math
learners this past nine weeks, working on place value to the Hundred thousand. We are excited to begin exploring multiplication and division.
Third grade will be jumping into non-fiction text and expository writing. We are very excited about our Field Trip in December to Houston
Museum of Natural Science.
4th:Fourth grade started the year out completely “Wild about Learning” in all subjects. The students have already grown leaps and bounds
this first cycle, and we have even more searching to do in our safari toward successful learning. We are excited for our field trip to the Taste of
Texas, and we can’t wait to dig deeper into problem solving in math along with exploring nonfiction text in ELA.
5th: Students have reached 25 minutes sustained reading and taken two pieces of writing through the writing process. In math they have
enjoyed working with tangrams, and in science students discovered that there are over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco products, of which 69 are
directly related to cancer. During the next nine weeks we will be studying the ‘Road to Revolution’ and taking a field trip to Lake Sheldon.
